The 2015 machine descriptions isn't entirely true, it suffered changes only in select markets while to other markets like the NA one they were still delivering the same old GC with an aluminium boiler and all the goodies like a solenoid, moreover the 2015 model isn't actually recommended for gaggiuino at all due to the mushroom valve in the group head literally making any sort of profiling useless as it won't allow any water to pass to the coffee puck before water hits pretty high pressures (5+ bars) hence majority of profiles requiring soft preinfusion or any sort of low pressur eshots being impossible on that machine. You also can't modify it to add any of the og GC boiler/solenoid because the internals have sufferend design changes to accommodate the new style boiler and what not hence that machine is to be avoided at all costs. Great video otherwise man!
I am SO glad I stumbled onto your video! I've wanted to try modding a machine like this but didn't know where to start. Since I'm going to be working on my sister's GCP doing some thorough maintenance while she's using another setup, I think I'm going to surprise her with with a little upgrade... way too much fun!!
Hi Rj great video. What would be great is also an instructional video discussing dialling in and how to use the different profiles . A deep dive into the software would be unique and something that I can’t find anywhere on UA-cam
Is the new EVO PRO suitable? I've seen post where those who have tried using it found it easier to entirely re-wire it. Also it has a 9 bar spring, would a 12 to 15 bar spring in the OPV be better?
Thank for another awesome Gaggiuino related video! I've also build this mod on a GCP 2019 and I didn't feel to be hard to do it. For me, the tricky part is to dial in for good shots, even with the default profiles (I also use a G-Iota DF64 v4 grinder). If you understand all those parameters found in the Gaggiuino menus, pls share that with us in a following video. Thanks!
Hey! I've built the project on an OG machine (2009) using the Blackpill LEGO version. I haven't had a PID before and it makes such a big difference! I really don't see any disadvantages if you've already upgraded the steam wand and maybe other parts as well.
Thanks for the explanation this was very helpful on getting up to speed with the models available. I have a really old Gaggia Espresso without the 3 way solenoid that I am considering turning into a Gaggiuino. But if I would need to replace too much then I would consider just starting from a the new Gaggia Classic Pro you showed. If the old one works out I will try to post something.
Sir, If theres any chance you could do a walk through on how you went about purchasing the parts and the correct parts list. I delved into this and been in their parts area but i have no idea what parts I need to buy in order to do this mod. Thanks i appreciate the video
another thing we dont talk about much is patents . alot of new companies try to patent new inovations making it hard to have one premium machine with all the best features unless you make it yourself by modding. open source fights against that .
Does anybody know if it is possible to transfer the graphic data to a 24 inch monitor ? (this would be convenient for a person with reduced sight abilities).
The ui is actually custom made specific to the small screen. In order to use a larger monitor, someone would have to create the ui from scratch and would not be able to use the nextion part of the project. Hope that helps.
Hey, I have build the gaggiuino based on the "OG" version (built around 2004, so pretty old). Did not know the differences when I bought the machine, it was just a good offer when someone wanted to get rid of their seldom used machine for only 120 EUR. I like the setup so far although I still need to figure out some features of the gaggiuino. One thing I'd like to add is another big advantage of the lego build: repair and maintenance. It is just going to be far more easy to swap components if something breaks or the project is moving on changing stuff (again).
Hello, im 42 year old from italy and i own a gaggia classic 220v from 2014(made in romania). I adjust pressure o 9bar, switch to basket not prrssurized filter and rancilio steqm wand BUT i never gained a good espresso coffe. I heard about gaggiuino project but i am not very informatic and neither be able to fond any document on discord app following the link on the official project page. Can you help me in some way? Regards
I noticed in your previous video that you placed the component housing behind the machine instead of inside. Will that negate the need to print the housing using PETG if that’s the case? I’m currently on PLA only and finding ways and means to not switch to PETG because the printer is not mine 😅
Hi @rjbernaldo_ excellent videos on the gaggiuino mods. I'm looking at modding the Silvia V6 with the gaggiuino - any thoughts? One of the reasons using the Silvia is I like the bigger boiler and powerful steam for that silky milk. Thanks
Hi Rj, I'm in the process of building out the components using the lego method. I am pretty mechanically inclined so I technically don't have any issues, but just wanted to ask you about the Dupont connectors. I am using the same connectors on the same pcb chip that you showed 9:12, did you remove the pins from the pcb itself or did you cut off the dupont connectors and solder the wires to the pins?
Hey! You can either solder your bare cables to the pins or desolder the pins and solder your cables to the pcb directly (takes less space). if you're OCD you can also use JST connectors but you need more equipment and stuff.
love how the guy who’s building the custom machine with deep knowledge and understanding of the prerequisites slaps it on the one machine it’s not supposed to work with 😂
I was pretty certain about getting the cafelat robot and i thought i was set and then this video came out and I am now mid crisis trying to decide again
Get a robot anyways. It's an epic tool to get all the technical stuff out of the process. It's only your skills and the tool. The haptical feedback of the puck resistance is unbelievable. And pressure profiling comes down to your muscle power and control... And although I'm writing all of this, I also can't help but keep coming back to the topic of 'Gaggiuino', on and on...;-) Think about it that way. If you get the robot first, you have a reliable supply of coffein during your build of the Gagguino ;-)
Hey! I chanced upon your video for the Gaggiuino when I was about to checkout my cart from Shades of Coffee to include the pressure gauge and dimmer mod. I currently have the PID installed. Are there any components you re-used from the PID kit from Shades of Coffee? Or did you remove it totally and used all the recommended components from the Gaggiuino team? Thank you so much for the content btw!
I wish I could pay someone to do this for me lol. I know how to do basic soldering (see my modded ps5 controlled 😂) but I don’t think I can do all this 😢
Guys, the idea is good, but why this shi---ty screen? Can we have amazon fire tablet and make ir super nice versus 3d printed crapy box? My wife would not allow this in the kitchen!
Gaggiuino is totally useless, unless you are a computer geek or smartphone addicted. There is no proper espresso brewing than a traditional taste and experience, that the electronics wont give you. There are two many options, starting from a proper grinding your coffee beans. Do not tell me that gaggiuino will tell you this. I moded my GCP to the limits. PID, internal and external boiler temperature , steam and brew, water flow control on demand , low tray to accommodate a scale. The result is. The best coffee machine without any bells and whistles as long as you know what you are doing. You can make any kind of espresso of your like of the roast. You control what you want manually, other than relay on the program of gaggiuino. I'm the old man, and in my retirement age I do prefer brew my coffee manually, because it make my pleasure to do so. This is my opinion but of course other people may think different. I watched the video, and I'm delightful of the new trend.

I'm afraid you missed the point: gaggiuino is mod you mentioned you did on yours GCP + controller with display (instead of analog gauges). So I disagree with statement it is useless. Having experience shouldn't be enough to guess for example temperature...
for me your comment sounds like guys who say that after the beatles there is no music. today there is a lot of paths you can choose and both are good. some likes analog and others digital.
@@dzezydzerk Well than smell and taste your coffee digitally. But yes we all are different, and at the certain point the same. The end point is espresso whichever way you make it. There are many ways to appreciate God. Many religions. But God is God. Thank You for Your comment. Best Regards

Well s*1t missed out on this piece of advice before pulling the trigger. Thank you for writing this comment :)
Thanks! Also, I own a Gaggia Baby twin, do you think I can mod it with gaggiuino? I couldnt find anything on google about it

Do a 2024 version! Gaggia classic evo + 99$ kits!
Please make on with the kit. Also hardware scales and 3d parts
what a crazy and unbelievable community coffee has

the EU/UK Version does not have a 9bar spring.

Yes. It has some nice updates like comes with 9psi spring, but nothing structurally different

Does this apply to Gaggia new Baby, too? It is real similar to Gaggia pro..
the newest is the pro evo . comes with a 9 bar opv
There an ESP32 version now, it might be time to update again

How are the coffee shots consistency wise?
With the new pcb v3 gcp kit on peak coffee, is there any soldering required?
According to the site no 😊
Can Auto Steam be programmed, for auto hands off milk steam?
Can this be done on a bambino (bambuino)

The OG machine never had a stainless steel boiler, thats an extremely expensive part for Gaggia to make its always been Alunimum
