The keyboard literally makes ALL of the difference in dimmu's songs, it really does...without it none of the songs would have any depth to them. I personally think keyboards are an absolute necessity for any black metal composition, as they add all the ambience, which is precisely what black metal is all about.
for people who dont know their dimmu borgir history......members in this clip that are no longer in the band : .....Lead guitar (Astennu) Aussie metal guitarist from bands Lord Kaos, Infernal method, Carpe Tenebrum and The Covenant..got all albums...total brutal stuff Nagash (bass) Lex icon from The kovenant/Troll, Tjdoalv (drums) ex old mans child/susperia...and most recently Mustis...apparently in Susperia/
@datispasdavid ehm, no, it was after this tour that dimmu recruited mustis and vortex, and the sound of the music start to change, maybe for good, maybe for bad, i dont care since i like old and new dimmu
@kommisar yeah he's not bad...a very talented piano player...id only wish i could be that good , i hear what your saying and i thought the same.....when stian got booted....i noticed the key tones shifted in the classics...i thought possibly due to Stian using Korg and Mustis using alternative brands and not having the exact same sounds...however we cant really know for sure if he played in alternative keys however i would think that shagrath and silenoz would have had the controllng say
@kommisar watch him play...basic root notes..finger technique playing which doesnt fully capture the 16ths and 32notes that nagash played or tristian played on the earlier releases. I think there is a quote from shagrath somewhere about him not pulling his weight in the band..to be honest i think the only reason he was in the band was the vocal sounds he offered as a contrast to shagrath....check out the subtle changes in the recent dimmu sound...very little bass cuts through..even live
...? are you familiar with the concept of a 'fill'? it was a little db/snare combo to zazz it up.. nothing wrong with that, they were still kiiiinda sweet back then now they're mentioned in the same breath as cradle for good reason.. so don't think i'm sweatin' over what you said buddy hahah
@datispasdavid vortex and mustis are not in this line-up, it was cause of them why dimmu changed so much their style, so even i like the new dimmu too, they should have stayed in this style, or close to this style
@kommisar No wories.....and yeah i agree...i was always a fan of Stian Aastad..ive actually got a cd he is on the band is called "enthral" and the cd "the mirrors oppisite end"....though in hindsight i hope he hasnt ripped off any of the keys...because the songs are really good...sorta old school blackmetal mixed with classical piano...not as symphonic as dimmu...the song "in passion swept" has a cool hook and surprisingly good chick vocals...which contrasts in a good way to the blackmetal ones
@Aarseth666Darkness Look again. "He (Mustis) had his first live appearance with Dimmu Borgir at the Dynamo Open Air festival 1998." You fail. Know your metal.
Maybe I said it with wrong word, not horrible,or not even much, but sounds sometimes after a long blast beat, that he can't roll it over ..But I haven't heard this song as a cd version,or anything,so maybe I'm wrong, but I think for ex at 0:46..Maybe it's part of it,I don't know. But this is very catching song,it rocks \,,/
@kommisar yeah i noticed that...the key tone at this gig was spot on....yeah i think it was commitment/pulling his weight was the reason both him and ICS vortex got the boot...too be honest...vortex was a lazy bassist and they always had his bass low....well atleast compared to Nagash and Old dimmu
@kommisar Yeah.i believe.it..however..its purely speculation based upon observations...other bands in the past have done similar things to cover poorer performing musicians...historically the beatles got Paul to re-record Drums for RIngo, Sid vicious bass lines in never mind the bollocks were overdubbed by steve jones and live his bass was sometimes convienetly switched off...metallica with An justice for all and the lack of any bass sound on that album however that was due to hazing aparently
To the bass player paradoxon. First of all: the bass guitar can be heard very properly several times eg at 2:08. Second: this is metal not jazz, so most likely the bass plays the very same riffs as the guitars, so you don't actually hear it but - believe me - recognize it (at least when it would stop suddenly). Third: higher frequencies seem louder to the human ear than lower at the same level of amplification and of course within a 30-to-25000-Hz-spectrum. So don't mind - everybody plays properly [ except for Aakesson who had a bad day ;) ] and enjoy the tunes.

It was held every year until 2004 or so.
Metal Jock! Shagrath came prepared for this one!
One of the best song on Dreamside Dominions

is dynamo an anual event or a series? it looks like the same event the chuck played with death...
...? are you familiar with the concept of a 'fill'? it was a little db/snare combo to zazz it up.. nothing wrong with that, they were still kiiiinda sweet back then
now they're mentioned in the same breath as cradle for good reason.. so don't think i'm sweatin' over what you said buddy hahah
Heaven shall never made for us to be...Love you Shagrath
that keyboard is so fucking awesome !
That solo at 2:38 is magic.

que buena calidad

Yes, they do! Not as good as old material, but for example In Sorte Diaboli is great album.
wow que voz!
and they still, believe me, it's not about selling their asses out, it's just a change for the good in terms of making good Extreme Metal nowadays...

Darkthrone wants a word with you ;-)

But drummer makes horrible mistakes :/
