That looked dry.....not your usually camping area ......I missed the robin showing you the way. But the cave in the beginning is the ideal settlement for caveman
What a pear you are (silly pun, but it had to be done.) You're certainly exploring some interesting places show the world that there is more to New Zealand than Te Araroa and the Great Walks. Personally, I love those wild tussock tops.... in fine weather. The Bannockburn Sluicings is my current favourite gold mining historic area, probably because I got there late in the afternoon when the lighting was great for photos and the sun wasn't so blazing hot. A great video, thanks.
Haha loved the pun, Sir 'Puns-a-lot' (like...Lancelot du Lac...but...'puns' and 'a lot' ;) ) yes, looovely tops. Its so very different from many parts here in NZ. The evenings and early mornings there are so special. The light gives it more 'drama'.
Yeah, reminiscent of the PCT. Perhaps some trees on fire and military jets flying overhead too? Did someone say 'pun' - tell those sheep not to be so bleating loud! I like the shots of you guys walking together - extra work!
Hahaha totally forgot about those jets...yeaaa naaah...no such thing here. I think NZ only has like...3...and they are old and...slow... haha. But NZ has more sheep ;);)
Very nice hike and video. Have you ever tried panning for gold? Its a relaxing pass time. Years ago, I took my son panning and gem hunting. He had a great time. Good Luck, Rick
I have neeever done gold panning, noo. But would definitely try it. Yes it must be very meditative. All day by the river, focussed on the panning and the gurgling of the water. Maybe we can fit it in somewhere.
@@tashinavanzwam reeeaally hope you get to do the PCT next year. Will you do the whole thing or start where you finished last time? We so miss the long distance trails...
@@atalefromatrail8181 I will start at Walker Pass Campground and go north. I've done 200 extra miles in North California but I will do that again. So everything except the first 652 miles 😃
Totally different type of county, almost could pass for another county if it wasn’t for the sheep. Is that cleared land by Europeans or always been like that?
Good question. Down in that area somewhere used to be old forests..Totara Trees or something. But big old trees. Maori, on the hunt for Moa, had already burned down large areas of forests. Like the Motatapu Ranges on the TA for example. But definitely the Europeans had a huge impact on land there and they were the ones farming, gold digging, sluicing...so they probably did their part in 'landscape design' ;)
