    Looking sweet! I'm stealing the 6.0 LQ4 out of my wife's '06 Suburban for my '70 Chevelle. Unfortunately, it has more the 300k miles and low oil pressure, so I'll be doing a full rebuild.

      While that is a lot of miles, its worth mentioning that the #1 cause of low oil pressure in those engines is the tiny little $0.05 o-ring where the pickup tube snaps into the oil pump. Thousands of LS’s have been scrapped over that. I believe that was the last year for the LQ4, in 07’ they introduced the same engine thats on my stand. The LY6

      What upgrades are you planning for the rebuild, specifically the camshaft spec?

    what led you to choose this specific motor? what was your criteria? I need to start looking for something to build up for a future truck build (1957 gmc) and I want it to be able to pull a car trailer with my 1937 Packard.

      I knew I wanted a 6.0 and I wanted decent power without tearing the engine apart and doing a rotating assembly, cam etc etc. the LY6 is has the LS3 heads on it which flow great and make good power. The truck engine stock is 370hp. By the time you delete the stupid egr stuff, do a tune, and simple cold air intake and headers, you’re up over 400hp without doing much at all. This truck is only being built for cruising, not the track. 400hp in a lightweight truck like this is way more power than I’ll ever need. It also had low miles on it and I know the seller well. He warranties everything. Seemed like an easy choice. They are getting expensive though… no longer a cheap option.

    Instead of using $50 worth of shop towels on your spills, use $5 worth of kitty litter. Toss it on the spill, and go back to your project. Sweep it up later.

      Ive done that many times. This time however, the shop itself is new, there was no kitty litter or oil-sorb but I have literally 2 full cases (24) of shop towels. As is in all facets of life - we do what needs to be done with what we have on hand. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

    I had a brain fart when I took the vvt sprocket off of the cam. I thought no big deal, it's got a dowel. Problem is it's got 4 holes 90* off from each other. I have searched everywhere. Do you know what the correct orientation of the dowel for the vvt sprocket?

    • @intheshoptv
      @intheshoptv  4 місяці тому

      The pin on the rear of the sprocket? IIRC, you would be able to tell by just verifying TDC

      @@intheshoptv the dowel pin is on the front of the cam, and has 4 holes drilled into the vvt sprocket. I wasn't paying attention to the correct hole and since it's a vvt, there's a tone ring with a corresponding sensor so it has to be right.
