Bible Discussions - Episode 38 - Justice

- Why does God wait to administer justice? When evil runs unchecked over the righteous, why doesn't he act? It can be overwhelming, but it isn't an excuse for us to take things into our own hands. Think of it this way: weren't you glad God was slow to administer justice when you were the one who deserved it? Then it seemed like an advantage, and you called it mercy.
In the Old Testament, we explore the book of Habakkuk in which God was allowing the Assyrians to run unchecked across the ancient world. When Habakkuk complained about their abuse of power, God assured him he would act - by sending the Babylonians to execute justice against the Assyrians! God's use of the Gentiles as his instruments of justice was difficult for Habakkuk to accept, but he decided the best approach was to remain faithful and trust God. God then uses Habakkuk to pronounce a series of woes against the Babylonians.
In the New Testament, we learn that Jesus Christ had plans to include the Gentiles in his kingdom too. This was difficult for the leaders of the Jews to accept, but rather than remaining faithful and trusting God, they started planning to put Jesus to death. Jesus then pronounces a series of woes against the Pharisees similar to those Habakkuk made against the Babylonians.
This is another episode in the series entitled, "Who Is Jesus Christ, and Why Do I Need Him?" Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the books of the Old Testament to discover the main attribute of God revealed in each. Then listen as they survey the New Testament to see how Jesus Christ exemplifies each attribute in his person.
