- A shepherd's job is to take care of the sheep for the one they belong to. He has the difficult task of guiding and protecting them without harming them. Above all else, he doesn't want to lose any of them. When you think of it this way, a shepherd is the perfect model for a leader of God's people.
In the Old Testament, we explore the book of Micah, where God tells the prophet that the great and future king will rule the nation like a shepherd and usher in an age of peace. Such a king breaks all the norms of the past and present, because men want a king who can solve their problems with the point of his sword.
In the New Testament, we explore several passages that describe Jesus Christ as a shepherd. We learn that Jesus has compassion on people who suffer under poor leadership. We learn that the only solution to their problem is for each of us to follow Christ's example and lead them to him as a good shepherd would. We must invest ourselves deeply in a few people just like Jesus did and deliver the flock safely to God.
This is another episode in the series entitled, "Who Is Jesus Christ, and Why Do I Need Him?" Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the books of the Old Testament to discover the main attribute of God revealed in each. Then listen as they survey the New Testament to see how Jesus Christ exemplifies each attribute in his person.
