- What if there were a short list of rules we could follow that would solve 95% of the problems in our society? What if these same rules protected the dignity, the property, and the freedom of everyone in the community? Wouldn't it make sense to adopt these rules for ourselves and teach them to our children? Or would we see them as an oppressive list of rules that just make our already difficult lives harder to live?
This list of rules is, of course, The Ten Commandments. It is a list that has been simultaneously venerated and abandoned as the basis of our society. Everyone wants everyone else to treat them according to these ten principles, but most do not want to be bothered with following them in their daily practice. Even many Christians think that they don't have to follow them, because the teachings of Jesus have made them outdated, but that is to misunderstand both the commands and Jesus Christ himself.
This is the first episode in the series entitled, "The Ten Commandments." Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the world's most famous instructions for living the human adventure. Find out why we all need to learn them and put them into practice.

That is interesting. I would love to get the reference for that study from you before we do our episode on honoring your parents. - Timothy
That makes some sense, depending on how you define "times of tension, confusion, or chaos." If the society appears to be unstable, why would the young people expect wisdom from the fathers who built it/still trust it? It is also a self-fulfilling prophecy, however. If you mistrust all authority/tradition, then of course your society will fail--which just makes you mistrust it all the more.
