    Nice job mounting that beast. I just mounted my new 6.5" vise to my 1" plywood decked workbench with steel frame. It presented its challenges due to its design limitations. I ended up using an 8x8 quarter inch thick steel plate underneath the vise to give more support to the bolts. Was a pain to drill, but worth it.

    I've had my bench vice sitting loose on the workbench for 10 years. I need to take the time to actually bolt it down! :) Thanks for sharing.

    HI Jay. Nice video but you are using hex screws (thread runs all the way up) and not lag "bolts", actual name lag screws, which have the thick screw and pointy ends that screw into wood. If the thread runs all the way up like yours, they are hex screws. When the thread runs halfway up they are called hex bolts. If the socket is inside the head of the bolt/screw, they are called cap bolts/screws. Just a little FYI but as long as it works who cares!! :)

    Nice job, Jay. Those bolts extended past the 2x4 as needed for security. Will you leave them hanging low, or cut them back. The chance of you gouging your leg if you sit is small (because of their location close to the bench leg) but better safe than sorry, right? Awesome video!

      Hey SEK! Thought about it but they are not in the way and you are exactly right I was wondering if it would be in the way and seemed fine! Even if I straddle that post like working close to the vice its still not in the way! Thanks for tuning in as always!

    I have an 8x4, 3 sided walk around bench, one side to a wall, and was looking at fixing various tools to it. I have the time to slow think things through and I envisualised the many jobs I will be doing and found some of the bench tools would get in the way. What to do? I decided not to permanently fix anything to the bench but to drill holes through the bench into the steel frame and fix the tools using Antiluce bolts. This means I can fix a tool down quickly, do the job and quickly remove it again leaving a free bench. Stuff falling down the holes.....stop confusing the issue...

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  Рік тому

      Indeed a removable vice isnt a bd d thing. I use this short bench stricly for just chainsaw work and hand tools so a permenant mount is nice for my but yes I see the benefit of a smooth flat workbench pending project! Thanks Bob! God bless!
