Potato pirate, well to be honest there was no mention if she actually did get ride of the cancer by removing the nose. @@catspajamboree Technically, cancer treatment IS invasive, its a hard process, so hard your hair starts to fall off because of the harshness it brings within (radiation etc etc), but god fucking damn it, she took it quite literal "If theres no nose, theres no nose cancer"
Not always especially with skin cancer. If the affected cells are within a small region that can be removed with one surgery sometimes there is no need to undergo radiation.
@@jessicadias5014 true, in fact there's actually a cream used to remove (potential) skin cancers before they worsen. It makes the patient go quite red but it is very effective.

I’m glad videos like these exists so we can earn others from doing the same but honestly what she did was quite foolish overall, doesn’t make her less of a person though so I hope she’s doing well
Kimmy Ball I was not trying to belittle her, I was judging her actions not the person she is. With this video another person interested in using the product will see how it actually works and, hopefully, avoid using that substance. Also, people will learn trough this video that the best way to treat cancer is by going to the doctor.

This is an EXTREME case. Some "alternative" therapies are highly effective. My massage therapist has done more for me in a year than 30 years of doctors, physical therapists, and drugs with horrible, disabling, side effects have.

My grandmother declined medical treatment for lymphoma, and instead went to a bunch of quacks. One of them was a "Chinese Medicine practitioner" who had her put black salve onto her enlarged lymph nodes in her armpit and on her chest. It created two huge open wounds, one in her armpit, one on her chest, which created "tunnels" that you would be able to fit a finger into, that constantly leaked lymph fluid. The wounds were extremely painful, and never healed for the remaining 18 months of her life. They needed several dressing changes a day, as they were constantly leaking lymph fluid. The pain and discomfort, and the inconvenience of soaking her dressings so fast that she could barely leave her house, severely reduced her quality of life as she slowly died over the next year and a half. The most frustrating thing for me was the fact that she had spent her career as a pharmacist and possessed a great deal of scientific knowledge, yet still fell prey to that disgusting, unethical snake oil peddler. It was very hard for my family to witness, helpless, as she suffered horribly and needlessly.

I know someone who was informed that she had breast cancer, she could've had surgery done, but she refused to because she wanted to keep her breasts. That was the last thing I heard her say. She died later that year, and I just can't help but feel like her decision was really tragic.
Wow, that's really sad. She would rather lose her life than lose her breasts?!
That's exactly what happened to my oldest sister. She'd always been extremely vain and when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and was advised to have her breast amputated, she flatly refused, saying: "I'm not letting them "mutilate" me!" So of she went trying out Chinese "cures" and mystic powders until it was too late so that even a belated operation couldn't save her. It just shows how vanity can sometimes literally kill you.

I'm so glad that she ended up with this kind of positive result at the end, but I really wish that she had just let a doctor surgically remove the affected tissue in the first place and had the resultant excision site seen to by a plastic surgeon. She could have saved herself so much pain and emotional trauma.

There are other natural substances that do the same thing, like bloodroot. I love the plant, but I’d never put its juice on my flesh on purpose!

I've had Skin Cancer several times and the last bout of it had portions of my upper nose and side of my eye removed, the Mohr procedure was used. Cancer is nothing to play with or take gambles with. I've had cervical cancer almost 40yrs ago and had a hysterectomy 10yrs ago as well as a brain tumor 31yrs ago. If you've been diagnosed or suspect that you might have any type of abnormality please, please, please see a doctor ASAP!! IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE!! I'm 56 now and I'm sure I look it, I baked in the California sun with baby oil in the 70's, used tanning beds in the 90's and am paying the price. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY SUFFERING!! Instead of using surgery to cut off a piece of her nose, she basically decided to chemically burn a massive chunk off.
And then have multiple surgeries to fix her mistake
People are desperate for easy solutions. Don't think of consequences... like in my country, health care is free. And yet people brag about never seeing a doctor. I don't think they realize ignorance is not always blizz. Like you could walk around with a ton of preventable issues, that actually lower your quality of life without knowing it... like even just fatigue, or exhaustion could have simple solutions that a doctor can figure out with a simple blood test. Maybe you need vitamins, maybe your heart is not getting enough oxygen because you have low iron. Like so many people CAN'T seek medical help because their countries do not have free health care, and have to live like that and just accept it. It actually annoys me a lot when people think not seeing a doctor for no apparent reason for 30 yrs is something to brag about... like you can adapt to a lot of things. Find your own ways of coping. But why do that, if a supplement etc might actually save you all that... I'm a very curious person, so I probably go to the doctor too often, but I also have a lot of different issues with my health that I've ignored for ages. Like I have chronic iron deficiency anemia... i didn't have it treated until I was in my twenties, and when I got that first blood transfusion? (Actually three bags, but still), I felt fucking invincible. Like I had so much energy I literally did not know what to do with myself. I've always struggled with low energy etc, and felt like a zombie. Then suddenly I was superman. I could walk for hours without passing out or feel tired (more than aching muscles afterwards but that's pretty normal when you increase activity), I finally got the energy to live. And that was caused by something they could find by simply poking my finger... so yeah. I'd rather go to a doctor once too often, than wait til it's too late... but a lot of people just... don't use doctors how they should use them... Dr Mike talks about that in his videos, he likes it when a patient can come to him for just a check up without necessarily looking for anything specific. Because then he can keep track of their overall health and then prevent something before it becomes a genuine problem.

My husband had melanoma. A friend of ours tried to get him to use black salve. We skipped that recommendation and followed his oncologist's treatment plan. He lived with melanoma for fourteen years. He passed away in January of this year.

I agree! Her nose really didn't look bad after the surgery considering what happened to it in the first place. They didn't mess up the surgery and ruin her face, it's just that there was a little excess fat in there.

My husband had skin cancer on his nose. He had it treated the normal way. One small surgery with local anesthetic in an afternoon. You have to look really hard to know he had skin removed. The doctor did a great job & insurance paid for everything. This lady went through misery for nothing.
I had a grandmother that decided to use black salve instead of going to chemo/surgery for her breast cancer. It was recommended by her doctor, and she ended up developing gangrene and dying from it. This is why I listen to my doctors and read up on everything, especially if the doctor prescribes something that is questionable. Thankfully my other grandmother chose to go the chemo/mastectomy route for her cancer, and so far it's looking good. Here's hoping she pulls through o3ob
As a medical researcher, I must say:
Black salve definitely worked as intended. Admittedly, chemically excising half of your nose to kill cancerous cells seems a bit extreme, but hey.
Yeah just thought the same. Noting left where the spot was so basically worked how she wanted it to.
But what if the cancer metastasized elsewhere in her body? Don't they typically recommend chemotherapy to prevent this sort of thing? I recall seeing another video where a farmer noticed a suspicious looking mole on his arm and cut it off with a pocket knife, only to die from skin cancer metastases in the brain. After all this, the woman may yet be doomed.
@@irongolem123 If skin cancer metastasizes, further treatment like chemo or radiation would usually be recommended yes. They would run more tests and either recommend further treatment or be considered cancer-free. If you have had melanoma (skin cancer) you have a higher risk of getting it again so follow ups and self-checks would be extra important.
I feel like that's a pretty dumb thing to say. It could have led to a major infection that could have killed her.

What motivated her to find this "alternative?" Did she use black salve because it was cheaper and she was worried about not being able to afford surgery? Did she simply prefer natural remedies over science?

Her doctor told her she would likely need Mohs surgery (which is the forehead skin flap thing) and she looked up pictures and got scared of it - some how the black salve seemed less scary?
Some people who sell this stuff claim it won’t leave scars or damage non cancerous skin. Obviously they lyin.

My mother used this stuff on a "suspicious lump" last year. It was so painful, and the escar made me heave to look at it. I'm so thankful she didn't disfigure herself with it. And she didn't even have cancer to begin with! She just got scared and slapped on some "natural" remedy instead of going to the doctor like a normal person! Being the child of an "all-natural" Facebook mom is incredibly stressful. I dread the day anyone in my family really gets cancer
That’s so sad but I wished she went to a doctor since it wasn’t cancer they probably would have given her some cream or antibiotics or something. I hope she stops being all natural. It is very painful. But effective, and preserves healthy cells, unlike surgery. I’m sure she ended up with a better result having done what she did.

To see this surgeon being transparent and clear that integrated care is how he feels medicine is best practiced, but also stressing that evidence based medicine wins outright in serious situations was super relieving to me

Every time I hear “holistic”, “eastern medicine”, homeopathy...I get skirmish. My friend died of ovary cancer, a totally curable cancer, because she refuse to get a real treatment, going to all sorts of alternative medicine bs. When finally she went to a doctor he send her straight to hospital where she died few weeks later.

The way I see it Eastern Medicine should be seen as just a ‘boost’ to an already established Western medicine treatment or as a last resort if Western medicine hasn’t worked. I recently discovered I have pretty serious chronic sinusitis. Somehow I ended up with an infection in the bones of my face and some parts of my throat and neck from this. It took a long time and seeing many different doctors before I finally received a proper diagnosis because the infection could only be detected by an MRI (which I finally received after suffering with choking/suffocating feelings for more than a month) and many of the doctors wouldn’t take me seriously and kept telling me I just had a cold and anxiety. I felt completely helpless with Western Medicine so I turned to acupuncture. Fortunately I then found the right doctor who found the problem and has now prescribed me antibiotics and some other medicines to treat the infection. But I still continue to do acupuncture too because I believe it can help alongside the Western medications. I feel that Eastern Medicine should never be used alone without first trying Western medicine. But I also believe that sometimes Western Medicine alone cannot help either.
@@leemana352 I think that rather than differentiating between eastern and western medicine, it is even more about using safe alternative or traditional cultural remedies that pre-dated modern medical practices in combination with modern medical practices. Emphasis on safe, because putting butter on a burn may be a cultural tradition and more natural/alternative, but it is not safe or effective. Acupuncture, when done by someone with proper training, can be great for symptom management even though it is not a cure.
Lee Mana the doctors told my friend that the acupuncture that she did probably aggravated her cancer because upset the tumor. The vast, way vast, majority of eastern medicine is harmful or just placebo at best. I lived in Asia, the doctors would say things like “if you have back pain, don’t drink beer” or after feeling your pulse on your wrist “you have a liver problem” , or tell you about Fung shui to cure your sinusite. Easter medicine prescribes rhino’s horn powder or bear bile,which besides been dangerous are I inhumane to the animals. Cupping, largely popular in china, is absurd. Acupuncture is placebo, you may have your symptoms alleviated a little, due to placebo effect. Eastern medicine for the most part should be banned.
I'm actually surprised that they were able to use her forehead skin for the surgery since she slathered that horror paste there too...I'm assuming it didn't eat away as much, or they were able to work around it?

Just consider the fact that even if you burn away the cancer you still have the possibility to leave cancer cells alive in your body that can escape and latch on to other parts of the body. Also a surgeon cutting away the minimal amount of facial tissue with SURGICAL precision will always leave more healthy tissue that future surgeons can work with for reconstruction compared to acid.
As a melanoma survivor, I hope she still sees a dermatologist for full body skin checks!
I hope so, too. Her original lesion didn’t look like a melanoma, but that doesn’t mean she can’t get one somewhere else! I hope she’s more cautious about the sun, too.

As part of my surgical tech internship, I interned for an excellent surgeon at his private surgical facility. I can't stress enough to people to get the best surgeon possible.
People, this is an ART, as well as medicine. Your surgeon should be as much an artist as a good surgeon. I've worked for non artist type Plastics, and the difference is day and night. Pony up the bucks and get the best.

I was so gratified hearing you explain in the beginning the use of Eastern and Western medicine. As someone who worked in medicine and took acupuncture courses the two systems dovetail quite nicely together and provide optimal health for patients.

Dervii Henderson it depends on the type and stage. Some skin cancer like basal cell carcinoma is superficial and doesn’t really spread so they typically just get cut off and patients are advised to make some lifestyle changes. Her doctor probably ran a number of test to determine that the spots she was seeing where the only concern and told her the treatment option. Then she went and did this and destroyed her cartilage instead
Ur depends on the " level" of cancer penetration beneath the layers of the skin. If the skin is limited to The Superficial layer then, you can damage and remove or excise the tissue and fully remove the source of the cancer and prevent it from metastasizing.
Once the cancer has penetrated underneath the subdural layers of the skin, the main concern for the medical team and a doctor is that the cancer is tissues will connect with any part of a vascular system underneath the skin or create its own vascular system and then begin to throw chunks of effectively cancerous tissue throughout the body and therefore lead to metastasis and various other complications as a result of those secondary cancer colonies. Most of the time, late-stage skin cancer is extremely difficult to treat and usually we use heavy scarring that also results in tissue death.
That is why if you get a full body exam for your skin and then they take a biopsy it is highly highly recommended that's you see a professional to determine the level and type of cancer you happen to have because the superficial treatment of excising a tumor is only effective in early-stage cancers. Usually once they metastasize both the time of treatment and severity of symptoms resulting from above treatment is far far worse and extremely expensive.

At what point is witholding reccommended medical treatment for a minor (Im assuming religious reasons is the only potential legal defense?) cross the line into child abuse? Like can a mandated reporter (teacher, coach, counselor) just report such a thing to CPS? If the parents take a kid AMA can a nurse/dr / hospital admin call a judge/ court to determine if its ok? What about a teen? I know in many states a child over 13 or 14 has complete control over their reproductive health, and can get clinician to explain stds and conception, seek birth control or condoms, pelvic or breast exams , can choose against parents will to keep her fetus or abort it. But does that same 14 yo (lets say girl) get to insist she wants chemo/radiation instead of her parents chosen faith healer/only reiki & diet thoughts, etc?
Dont wanna veer too off topic, but having been abused as a child in a way that maybe didnt make it worth removing me and risking worse abuse in foster care, It always concerns me that all parents already get to brainwash their kids into whatever they themselves believe. But at least at 18 they can move out and work or attend college and read or be exposed to other ppl and ideas and make their own decisions.

Furthermore in alot of these rural areas children are not educated or informed of their rights. And its all excused under "religious freedom" which is why I give people who homeschool their kids a side eye. I have heard plenty of stories of teens who saved money to get themselves and their sibs their shots or in some cases a kid can find an adult to support them, but these things take money. This honestly reminds me of those parents who got charged and convicted of negligent homicide for praying to God to heal their dying daughter rather than taking her to a hospital. The girl was 11 and had undiagnosed diabetes. Her death was preventable but her parents completely failed to get care for her.

I would also add that if you have a growing or suspicious mole, get it removed at a doctor's office who will send it to a pathologist! Otherwise, if you go to a med spa to remove these moles without a pathologist's report, you may end up missing a life-threatening metastasizing tumor.

Dr. Youn, I’m so interested in your professional opinion about Korean plastic surgery trend in making almost the same face (v-shape jaw, double eye line, small/narrow nose) for everybody just as witnessed in Miss Korea candidates. It seems to me their principle is not about improving what the patient is born with, but more on alternating the face features completely with a sort of perfect face. It is pretty different plastic surgery culture compared to the United States, Europe, Brazil, Japan, Russia or even China.

on one of the documentary show that i watched while back, it’s said that nose job is popular among women in India. also, if youve ever read one of japanese beauty magazines, they always have like five or more pages with ads for plastic surgery (mostly, the eye and breast enlargement) so im guessing thats popular in japan. then again, not everyone is the same. plus i heard jawline is really difficult and dangerous surgery so its not as common as you think.

Yikes. When my husband had cancer we definitely didn’t diy it. He sought treatment from an oncologist but we also did a lot of holistic things. Refined his diet to a better diet that would support him through that time, proper movement, massages and adequate rest and hydration. Best of both worlds. Beat the cancer.
My uncle had skin cancer on his nose he needed surgery to remove it. After the surgery, the doctors used that procedure to put skin on the areas the cancer was on. I'm glad my Uncle trusted his doctors the poor man had three different cancers. (His skin cancer was the second.)

This makes me want to see Dr. Youn do a video on the history of reconstructive surgery. The forehead flap featured in this video reminds me specifically of the procedures that were developed after the first world war to treat significant facial injuries. The results may seem somewhat primitive by today's standards, but you to consider that these procedures were done more than 100 years ago now. Even something like just closing a hole in the nose and/or sinuses had a MAJOR impact on the quality of someone's life, even if they couldn't reconstruct a nose like we can today. I'd love to hear how much of these original techniques are still applicable today. I bet it's more than we might think.
The other medical field that was advanced significantly in the aftermath of WW1 was prosthetics. Normally, when someone things of prosthetics, they think limbs. However, because of the previously mentioned severe facial injuries, there were facial prosthetics. There were doctors who would meticulously craft what were really works of art to blend in with someone's natural face as much as possible, often at no or little cost. The outpouring of support for WW1 veterans, especially in the medical community, was truly touching.

What she didn’t seem to understand is that there have been people who went in expecting it to be one type of skin cancer, and when they removed it, they found that it was either another - much scarier - type of cancer, or much deeper than they thought. She really risked her life.

I see so many "holistic" approaches to medical care that are just... Way too out there. Like black salve, the infamous Jilly Juice, homeopathy, consumption of laetrile... These things can be outright dangerous. And I appreciate you clearing up the kinds of safe, natural ways that you personally recommend for your patients to improve their health.

Homeopathy is NOT WHAT SHE USED. He has got his terms confused. Homeopathy is an extremely dilute solution of a herb or mineral. I mean very dilute as to be undetectable. It is used to stimulate immunity like a vaccine. What this woman used contained zinc chloride which will eat holes in anything. You could swallow an entire bottle of homeopathic pills and experience no effect whatsoever.
