I am a female plumber from Papua New Guinea, love my job and love learning new skills and techniques
Right on! How long have you been a plumber?
If you can keep up, have a good attitude, follow directions, and do quality work, I don't care what you see in the mirror. A woman who wants to be in the trades (mine is plumbing) is going to able to deal with the metaphorical and literal crap from people, and possibly embarrass the guys.
This video was for me. I'm very interested in plumbing and online searching videos to see if it's possible or not. Thanks Rachel for doing this video, it's really helpful to see another female leading the way. Every time I ask tradesmen who are family or friends what would be possible for me they say I can't do it yet I've heard of women doing these jobs when I search online.
Anyone who says you can't do a job based solely on what's in your pants is an idiot
I'm a trans dude tired of kitchen management looking to get a career at 28. I'm sure I'm going to struggle a bit being a short lil gay but whatever. I'm tired of these dead end jobs girl
I was about to post a long detailed post about how you CAN do it... But UA-cam just deleted it in the middle of me writing it, so TLDR: you can do it just get out there and make mistakes! Also you will notice when you get a trades job, Men do NOT in general work independently, we are constantly asking one another for assistance/help. So get out there if you have a question, ask! If you have a concern, concern it. If you don't think you can do it try! If you can't do it alone, that's ok nobody is keeping score ask for help!
I completely agree with both of you ! Working in the field I hear so many jokes some directed towards me and some not , Instead of complaining I either ignore it or joke back BUT you have to know when joking is acceptable or when is a better time to walk away and ignore it. I also know men that have complained about harassment I think it all just depends on the individual
I really love this. I want more people in the trades. I'm a woman and I'm a welder and I'm always so excited to see more women and just more young people in the trades.
how did you get started??
No matter what sex you are, pick the job that you want and will give you good opportunities. I used to to work with some women building trails. It was hard, manual labor in all kinds of weather but the women in our group were able too keep up. You can do most things you put your mind too, don't let any of these shitheads the tell you otherwise.
I'm excited to start my journey!!
Good luck! 💪🏻👍🏼
I passed my aptitude test Thursday and I'm a black female at 30 interview Tuesday ❤❤❤
Local469!
So good to hear! Congrats and good luck to you 💪
Thank you ❤️😌
Did you get the job
@@unclej7621 yes I did thank you !!!!
But everybody that's under this post came from a woman !!! Women can do what a man can plus more ❤💪🏽💪🏽
Sparky from Maryland. It’s not an issue of quality. It’s an issue of lawsuits. Even if the woman is cool, you still have to watch yourself because some people, regardless of gender, will take advantage of others and the current political climate has made it very easy for women to collect that payday.
We all know how rowdy guys in the trades can be and it is something I had to learn to navigate because I’m not a rowdy guy. I’m quiet nerdy. However, I also had to learn how to navigate being the white minority guy working along a bunch of black dudes. It was a culture shock but near two decades of trash talk and jokes and I got some life long friends.
The point I’m trying to make here is that it’s easy for me to make a lawsuit of being discriminated against because I’m a minority hire. But I don’t. I went into someone else’s home, learned the rules, and played the game. The same would be expected of a man becoming a nurse.
So I went to trade school for plumbing and I love it but I’m career didn’t turn out as I expected and I still want to do plumbing but I had a plumbing company I worked with and I only lasted ten months because I couldn’t stand the disrespect so I gave up and because of my brain condition that I can’t get hired anywhere or because I quit without a two weeks notice
Ever heard of using a period at the end of a sentence?
Bro
Bruh
This guys going off the woke end again
Not at all. I do think women can get into the trades and do a fantastic job... Do you disagree?
I think just trying to stay relevant by being all accepting about it. Like you’re not from the old school where that kinda stuff was frown upon.
She seems so unenthusiastic tho
I’m sure she does skilled work but I would still rather have a guy on the job, even if it meant slightly lower quality.
if she does skilled work why does it matter her gender?
You don’t have to worry about complaints and a week off a month
@@RogerWakefield if she skilled it shouldn’t matter but to some it does sad truth
Your sexism is showing lmao..
"Even if it's lower quality work, I'd still rather have a male do it" - bro what lmao
I want whoever does the best work
Can she dig?
Again, it's a modern discovery, but there are tools that dig, even to depths beyond the capacity of humans.
@@NoseyNana can she afford those tools? Because many plumbing companies don't even own excavators. On a regular basis the plumbing company you work for will most likely provide you with shovels, digging bars, and maybe chipping hammers. These don't change the dynamic of the question. It's not about the depth or what's within or "beyond the capacity of humans", it's about the time and efficiency the job is done with the tools YOU have. So all that spoken out loud for the slower among us, taken into consideration, I ask again, can she dig?
Probably not
@@serpentinefire921I’m pretty sure she would be fired if she couldn’t dig.
@@Rosie33Sophia lol not even close bud
@@serpentinefire921 Unless they are stupid they will fire her when she cannot perform simple requirements of the job. I’m pretty sure she can dig, most fit people can dig lol. I mean I’m female and I can definitely dig but I’m fit so idk. Idk how fit she is.
So many points to make on this topic but if you’ve ever worked with a woman in the trades please raise your hand 🙋♂️ the few I’ve had have done good quality work, but there are way too many downsides of having one on a crew. I’d bet my paycheck Roger or the guest who has a multi million dollar plumbing company have never hired a female plumber. For that reason they’ve been successful and still have a company to their name 🤣👌🏼🤷🏼♂️
All it takes is one joke taken the wrong way for her to take down your entire company. Women in trades are just a walking lawsuit. Hire at your own risk.
A dude could do the exact same thing, that is bullshit.
You just have to hire the right person, if a guy is super corporate and "sets off alarms" then don't hire him.
There are bad ass women out in the world, I'd love to be working with one... Who applies for a plumbing job and then just wants to stay away??? Management is the problem at that point. There are plenty of guys that apply for a job and then give up, I worked in a metal shop and there were some long term women, and guys who didn't want to do anything.
@@rdizzy1 you think a guy would take a comment said by a crew member in construction and file sexual harassment?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@unclej7621 Doesnt need to be sexual harassment to cause issues, can be just plain harassment.
@@rdizzy1 yeah no men with construction experience are filing any sort of harassment lawsuits, and if there’s any one who has they will never get another job again.
