Would you even consider going for a cheaper version for a 2nd and 3rd off-camera flash, something like the Godox TT600? I am just starting out and coincidentally already bought two Godox TT685II before watching your video. I am now wondering if I should have bought one and two TT600's for slave flashes. Any feedback is welcome, I still have the receipts :)

@biscuitarchive it’s really all about your budget. As in everything else in life, the less you spend the less quality, in general you get. So it’s risk reward for what you’re willing to tolerate.

The one feature that I wish modern 3rd party flashes had was Auto Flash. I'm still using my Vivitar 283 and 285HV units with great results and I can go from my Pentax systems to my Nikon systems with no trouble. I even use older Nikon flash units (SB28) with my Pentax cameras in auto flash mode. As far as I'm concerned TTL is a solution to a problem that really wasn't there, except of course to make money for the camera manufacturers. Off camera is no problem as the Vivitar sensors had a remote cord that put the sensor on the camera and the flash on a stand in a softbox or umbrella.

These are good flashes for the price. The only downside I really see with them is the aa battery part. Godox introduced a lithium ion battery with the v860ii its a pretty solid battery as well. 200+ shots at 1/1 power. Great value in that flash as well with the same interface and in rechargeable battery. Awesome video as usual!👍🏽

Great question! So it comes down to two issues: power and budget. If you NEED more power, evolv200 for sure, if you don't HAVE budget, the TT685... In either case, once you get started with flash you will probably wind up getting a second one down the road because it adds SO much to your photography. They both work very similarly and use the same triggers, so its a good start of a system. Thanks for watching!

These can be confusing to new flash photographers: All ATG/Godox, ATG/Nissin & ATG/Yongnuo DO NOT have ATG Auto2 modes
Reason why it was removed because new photographers are lost & don't know how to use ATG Auto2 features (better than TTL).
ATG Auto2 was so successful were the ATG's:
    1. Vivitar 283, 285, 285HV
    2. ATG Gold 60CT-4r, Metz 60CT-1/60CT-2/60CT-4/76MZ-5
    3. ATG/Quantum QFlash T series
    4. ATG/Canon 580EX II to EL-1
    5. ATG/Nikon SB-25/SB-26/SB-800/SB-900/SB-910/SB-5000
    6. ATG/Sunpak 522/555/622 Pro and lower models
    7. ATG/Jinbei & ATG/Rollei
Dominic Wroblewski, many 3rd party have ATG Auto2.
Knowing how to use the ATG Auto2 mode provides better results than TTL.
Yes, you are correct your Nikon SB-28 has ATG Auto2.

Does external flash affect camera battery life? My camera battery runs out quickly with the Godox TT685 flash. I know that the flash used another battery from outside the camera but I feel a big difference with the battery when I use the flash

    • @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk
      @CoffeeandPhotographyTalk  7 місяців тому

There is nothing about the flash itself that would change the battery usage of your camera. However, something about the MODE you are using the flash in on your camera might... I don't know what this would be, but for instance, if it is using an IR exposure or focusing beam, that might use battery... This is a guess.
