Fascinating! I have had thrips once and they are fierce if you don't notice them and they multiply! They were munching on my Monstera! I have used a fungicide spray before and I have used Neem Oil, basically spraying the plant down getting top and bottom of leaves. I have taken the plant and washed it off with water before also.
I had bought a callisia repens plant from someone and I check for pest and couldn't see anything. After a few weeks, I decided to put it close by with some of my African violets. It was wilting/dying and I thought it was because of my north facing window. After 2 weeks, I noticed the African violets around that plant had issues with their leaves. Looking closer at the callisia repens, I noticed something moving and it was thrips. I had to throw out 6 of my violets because it couldn't be saved. The 3 that did make it, I had it in a bag with diatomaceous earth sprinkled on it. Now 9 months after, it's looking okay. What sucks is that I had bagged up the callisia repens to throw it out but forgot about it for a few days and it look so good and perked up. Tempted to keep it but I threw it out. I don't think I can buy plants that has so many small leaves, unless I propagated them myself.
That's such a bummer Nancy. I hate that you had that experience. We all want to just love on our plants, not have to treat for pests. I'm glad you did get to save something from that experience. It makes you think twice before adding plants into your collection. I'm just glad these things don't happen too often. Happy Planting🪴
MeMe, I'm so glad this community is here to help us all right? Thank you for asking questions and sharing your experience. It really is so helpful. You are a peach💚
Yeah, it seems like everytime I look at one of my plants now, all I see are thrips. I am so done. I will just keep treating and treating until I don't, but this is so annoying. May explain why my reverted manjula always looks like somebody been chewing it 🥴
I actually do like Captain Jacks. At the time of purchase, I had little grandbabies and a doggie and didn't want to bring in chemical/systemic into the house for fear of them getting into it. Now, whenever I do use it, I do so sparingly. I still. have some, but I use it as a last resort.
I Never had thrips. I used Systemic Insecticide 3 times a year. I also have Diatomaceous Earth Stones in my Aroid Mix. I’m m m not buying bugs to eat bugs. My favorite plant El Choco Red who is blooming, 5ft tall, would get a chop, wash and spray😢As it is, it would be too big of a job for me.😢 🪴Happy Planting🌿
Just some things on the vid that I didn't see answered, just lending what I've learned over the years .. the sticky residue I guess could be from aphids but Ive had them on outside plants and they have never had stickiness on them .but if it's a trail of sticky like a slug trail is how I explain it ,lol it's more than likely mealys or scale as they move they leave trails for additional family members to find that good good in the plant lol.. bagging the plant you spray it first then put in a bag to keep hatchlings or adults from flying out away from the plant because you just treated it and potentially living, it also over time will suffocate any larvae. EFN is EXTRA FLORAL NECTARIES this is some plants defense against pest and you can tell because EFN with ball up in a plant or stem and if left it can leave a burn mark resembling a thrip mark but it's just that EFN burning through the leaf. Systemic is usually sold in powder form and is highly toxic same with diatomaceous earth. I know bugs treat bugs sounds crazy but they do work wonders and they do everything for you I've done both chemical and the beneficials you can just put on the plant and they go to town and then die off once there's no more food source. On insecticides pest will become resilient to the same treatment over and over again that's whys it's always good to change it up. Systemic also helps in some reproduction of pest especially spider mites so just be careful also keep plants out of direct light when treating as you can burn all your leaves off .Sorry so long lol but just wanted to give my feedback great vid by the way and informative. Pest have been horrible this year especially thrips I've been into plants since 2010 and had my very first thrip outbreak this year but bugs are a part of the hobby.

Mona💚 We missed you Luv.
@yvetteboonecreates I'm heading back home so tonight I will watch as I repot
Loved this video❤. To answer your question about EFN = Extra Floral Nectories. This happens a lot with Philodendrons😊
🤩Thanks you so much.
Aww I am so sorry I missed this live.
You were the ⭐️ too. No worries, I really appreciate you for encouraging me to treat that plant for thrips. 🪴Lifesaver💚
@yvetteboonecreates I am glad you caught it. I went through it early spring . Mona can tell you how I freaked out and treated all my plants too.

Hello watching from Pennington New Jersey
Hello There and Welcome🙋🏽♀️
I'm still trying to finish the video. Why don't you like the captain jack's?

You know MsLadyJune, I can appreciate that stance. Prevention is better than eradication. Wow, a blooming El Choco Red, I'd love to see that.💚

Thanks for all this great info. This helps a lot.
Pure Crop 1 is something I have used but I am not sure if it helps with thrips.
Okay, another resource. Is that natural, and if so what is it made of?
@yvetteboonecreates yes, I believe it's some kinda oil, corn oil, maybe.
I’m watching the replay!!! I learned something again!!! I have never heard of thrips… the more you know, the more you grow… literally 🪴🪴🪴
Yeah Sis, unfortunately issa thing. But we got this!!
