Hello from Texas! I found your channel while sorting out how I was killing my plants 😅 I’m new to this hobby and needed help! My alocasias are in semi-hydro and thriving. I’ve bravely chopped and propped my monstera deliciosa. Brought my cacti back to life…. Successfully propagated my alocasia pink dragon from corms. Never heard of Hoya, I have 4 now growing beautifully in your recommended soil from a way back video. And the begonia obsession has begun. I’ve just purchased some begonia leaf cuttings! Oh, also, the acrylic paint and baking soda thing, yeah, it’s fantastic. I used the small bits that fall off the sphagnum rather than tree fern fiber. I am sure I’m missing other things that I’ve learned from your channel, too many to name. I live out in the wild country of east Texas with a fairly nonexistent planty community. You are delightful to listen to and learn from, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Hi! My monkey tail cactus has been outdoors ever since I bought it years ago. It’s on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain, where winter lows reach around -2°C. It gets some morning sun and is sheltered from the rain. It blooms a lot every year. Around here, everyone I know who has one keeps it outside.
The monkey tail cactus is my favourite the first time i saw it was on Wildfern channel hers looks amazing. I am still on the hunt for the rat’s tail cactus is more thinner and looks amazing trailing down. I have a friend who forgets watering her plants and dies. So cacti and succulents are more suitable for them. We have the awful Irish weather here with winter definitely a struggle for plant people.
All my alocasias are grown in semi hydro, except three but they always have a full water globe so they still have constant access to water and all of them are thriving. Before that I couldn’t get more than one leaf but now they are all full and constantly giving me new growth.
My Tortum is in my top 3 favorites! I was gifted a begonia just like yours fairly recently & I’ve already cut it back twice. Those things grow like weeds! Yours has gotten ginormous!!
The caudata sumatra is one of my favourite hoyas and love that you added it to this video. Mine is not much bigger than yours and bloomed for the first time July this year. It's flowered 3 or 4 times again since which has been so surprising but lovely. Hope yours blooms for you soon x
probably two unusual plants (to me) in my collection are Crasula Muscosa (rattail cactus) & Callisia Repens (turtle vine) i got the crasula from local nursery. it was in bad condition but i fell in love as soon as i saw it and its been a week since i got it and rescued it and it's starting to take over. It just flourishes in south facing window. The other one turtle vine is a cutting i got and it's very similar to tradescantia family, it doesn't lose leaves at the top.
Hi Claire, I am so happy you have a cleistocactus C. and that you are knowledgeable about its care. It’s rare to find videos on UA-cam about that plant. Mine seems doing well with 4 arms and pushing new ones in rather weird places🤔. The arms on mine are not as thick as yours. Do you know how to get the arms to be thicker? I keep it in a southwest facing window and since I leave in the North at this time of the year the sun can get so intense at 11 am that I have to put a sheer curtain to prevent burning. same goes for my boobie cactus where the new growth is slender then the bottom and I do keep it right under a grow light. How do I keep the new growth thick? Thank you and big hug to your faithful four-legged baby 😊
This is so exciting!! And thank you for covering all of these! I just got a philodendron tortum! And I just learned about the hoya caudata Sumatra, and you have helped me fall in love with the anthurium pallidifrorum, so those two are definitely on my wish list now!
💚That begonia Sinbad💚 is AMAZING! I will definitely look for one. I'm wondering if you've heard of the "perched water table" effect in pots? It's so opposite of how it seems it should work. 🪴 Thank you for always giving us such wonderful videos to enjoy💚. (🌧 I'm also sitting in dreary, dark & damp weather in Portland, Oregon, USA 🌲🐌.)
@TheJungleHaven The "perched water table" (which is a BIZARRE title) explains why placing stones in the bottom of our pots DOES NOT improve drainage. Water does not "like" to go from one substrate to a different type, so it actually STAYS SUSPENDED longer in the upper layer of the pot rather than draining out of the bottom. There are videos that explain the science behind it far better than I can. The point is do not layer different substrates in pots because it hinders drainage and can cause root rot. 😑 I learned this the hard way. (🪦RIP poor plant babies🥀.)
Love this style of viedeo! Some of my favorite weirdos in my collection include my philodendron tortum and my phil. 69686 which I got as a wet stick at a plant swap. Love a funky leaf!! ❤
It depends how much water they like. For drought tolerant plants such as succulents I let it all dry out between watering, whereas things like the begonias I try to keep a little reservoir most of the time. I often use a funnel to water the side and avoid soaking the soil each time
I also have a caudata Sumatra. She is a beauty. I keep her under a grow light with a plastic bag to increase the humidity level after potting her in PON. S The leaves can get red with enough light. She has several peduncles and flowered multiple times too. Now I am anxious about removing the plastic bag because she is low key living her best life underneath it.
I have my monkey tail cactus under a 10w Sansi grow light and it’s a very happy cactus. I’m in Northern Canada and it is still growing. I also have mine in terracotta.
This is a great list. I have a few anthurium and jungle cacti that I’m loving currently. The change in the season I have to admit is challenging my anthurium game. Such a beautiful genus but I’m still trying to master it. Never thought I’d say it but might have to try semi hydro. 😂

I am spraying it because maybe it’s due to invisible bugs. Wish me luck
The only Begonia I have is a little volunteer growing in the pot of my Monstera obliqua. It's plain green ... but it's leaves are sparkly and almost irridescent. I like the look of a lot of Begonia, but I haven't felt the need for them, but to get one for free is pretty cool and I love that it's green and sparkly. I kind of agree with what you said about Alocasia micholitziana. The only other Alocasia I've had before was the standard A. x 'Amazonica' and I just couldn't keep them alive. I've had two die on me. The micholitziana maintained so many leaves and then, finally, when my care became a bit more irregular due to stress, an upcoming move etc., it dropped down to being a one-leaf wonder, but I've put it in semi-hydro now and it's pumping out leaves again, and one of the corms I found is also growing now too. My last 'Amazonica' just immediately dropped down to one leaf and maintained that for about six months and then just decided to rot even though I was very careful not to over or under water. I feel like the difficulty with Micholitziana is in giving it the care it needs to look good, not keeping it alive.
I would love a pallidiflorium, but at the moment I have no idea where I would put it! 😂I don't have room for a plant that get's leaves that big, but in the future I would love one hanging in a window.
I love alocasia!!! I just picked up a Cyrtosperma Johnstonii. I'm worried that it's going to give me a hard time. It's very juvenile, the stems are long and spindly so it looks very delicate compared to others. I'm in the Midwest of the States, too. Winter is my arch nemesis 😅
Am not a begonia girl I just think they look like wild weeds ! I do have the spotty one but it never seems to grow much . I do love my alocashia an anthurium.
Not the trendiest however I cannot recommend the philodendron narrow enough as a ‘beginner’ unusual plant. Mine is in a chunky mix and is super hardy. It’s still pushing leaves out despite it being the winter and although it has (and appreciates) a moss pole I’ve found it to grow outwards and fill out so I’ve not had to extend the pole so far.
The Bobbi cactus for me has been such a Drama Queen!! And I live in an 8b region and for me she does not like direct light or her boobies will burn 😂 I hardly water but when I do I water very lightly or too much water will put her in shock and will turn an ugly dark green color! Also too hot or too cold will stress this cacti out!! Not one you want to keep your eyes off that’s for sure!! I have 90 different species of cacti and the Bobbi cactus is my nightmare!!
Greetings from Greensboro, North Carolina🇺🇸. Okay, 👀 eyes bulged at your Bisma Silver, looks like a plant on steroids...it's huge! Lovin' your beginner plant suggestions👍👏🪴
Just came here to say that your intro with Joli winking never gets old. 🥰 ☺️
Yes please never change it. ❤

@ Chuckling as I type this… thank you. However, I think that I’ve just now stopped holding my breath and actually really enjoying the process.

Pallidiflorium is on my wish list! I was spying it in the background. So glad you covered it.

The begonia sinbad has got huge! It's so beautiful 😍
You have no idea how much i needed you video today ❤️🫶🏽 thank you!
I thought I will never make a whishlist because I have already quite a lot of plants, but now seeing this lovely video... I want them all!!!
I just purchased a baby Variegated Anthurium Vittarifolium and I am ecstatic to watch it grow!!
Catching up with vids now cause I fell behind. Love this and have earmarked the palidiflorum as my next purchase 🙏🏾💕
I like a fishbone or zigzag plant. They're so easy, grow so fast, and look so cute in a hanging pot!
That's a great one! The fern leaf cactus too!

I do the same. No drainage, semi hydro at the bottom and soil mix substrate to fill. It works. And i agree in regards with the nutrients.

Getting the callistophylla black cat today! So exciting! 😍

Hey girl I love what you’re doing .so beautiful your plants ❤
Yay a new video, I was missing you! Another one that you didn't mention would be Peperomia Sarcophylla (do you still have that one?) 🌿🌱
I bought my philodendron tortum from Home Depot, I didn't realize they were that rare as much as just not desirable. I love mine.
Hi Claire, I have to say my varigated thanksgiving cactus and my orchids with the varigated leaves. Love your rare ones.
Your begonia sinbad is lovely and she has flowers! That’s amazing ❤

Wonderful Plant Vid. 🌱🌿💚👌
Hi Claire try hooking your chicken wire to the inside of your cuboard door. A couple of sticky back hooks should do the trick 😊x
How much water do you leave in the ones that you're growing with no drainage and a layer of pon at the bottom?
It depends how much water they like. For drought tolerant plants such as succulents I let it all dry out between watering, whereas things like the begonias I try to keep a little reservoir most of the time. I often use a funnel to water the side and avoid soaking the soil each time
@TheJungleHaven thank you! I've been itching to try it but wasn't sure how to structure
just ordered the palidiflorum

Hello, Claire! what about a tour house plant?

❤ What type of media is at the bottom of glass drainless jars? Thanks in advance.
