You didn't mention how Season 2 ends with someone opening a door expecting an ex, but getting pizza (Wanda expecting Bojack to come back but it's just the pizza she ordered), and then Season 3 ends with someone opening a door expecting pizza, but getting an ex (Katrina showing up to offer Peanutbutter the chance to be governor).
Wow how long we get
This episode also ends with Schaffrillas offering us an Andy J. Pizza
Also, that when Mr Peanutbutter opens the door he says “You’re not pizza.” And Katrina responds “not this again.” Implying that they once had a fight over whether or not Katrina was pizza
You got a heart! Cherish it.
This is all just one big “why the long face” joke about a horse
Best comment
Guy- hey, why the long face?
Bojack- I just got nominated for an oscar and now I want to kill myself
Guy-.......
That joke always makes me laugh.
I still feel like it would've been so funny if that's how the show ended, if it was revealed that all this was Bojack retelling everything that's happened to him after a bartender asks him that question. Then the bartender stares at him in silence and the credits roll and that's the end of the show.
@@ShrodingersCatgirl that actually would've been hilarious, but also kinda unsatisfying lol
Todd saying “fuck man, what else is there to say” before the cutoff always hit me so hard. Todd was always a character I loved for various reasons (such as the asexual representation which I’ve NEVER seen in another show and it was nice to be represented) but because hearing him talk in a voice that isn’t the goofy Todd speech and say something so brutal always stood out for me.
I think they only dropped the f-bomb once per season to really let the situations hate you harder. *chef's kiss*
Yess, I've always had a soft spot for Todd but him being ace just made me so happy. There's so little representation, and I think the show did a really good job, it didn't feel forced. And when characters who are more labeled as the "comic relief" are serious, it adds to the story and the character so much
Yes, us aces don't see a lot of support, and seeing such a good character, voiced by such a good voice actor as representation in such a good show makes me happy! Maybe we don't have quantity, but we do have quality!
Same. The reason i started the show in the first place was because i had heard there was good ace representation, but Todds character is so fucking awesome regardless
@Floyd Palermo Yes, I hate when people here "asexual" and instantly assume I don't like / don't want relationships. It can already be tricky enough for us to find one without this mistake..
bojack and diane being so consistently toxic for each other is the greatest sitcom subversion in television
Silent and moves
I actually love Todd’s f-bomb and how it affects his and BoJack’s dynamic in the following seasons. Even though the two still interact in later episodes, there’s always this underlying aura of discomfort and distance in their conversations and their banter never returns to the way it was in the first two seasons. Even when BoJack seems to be doing better in season 6, Todd passively supports him, sure, but he does not hesitate to leave as soon as BoJack starts spiraling again. He’s the first to leave the room in “Sunk Cost and All That,” he doesn’t invite BoJack to his fancy party, and his last words in the series are “It was nice while it lasted.” Todd hopes the best for his old friend but he knows how to separate himself from toxicity for his own sake.
That's actually amazing developement!
fuck man, what else is there to say?
a thing you will notice when watching the series is that the use of the word "fuck" is rarely used, and whenever it is used, its at pivotal moments throughout the series
@@lordjay7530 it's used once a season, but a sneaky extra one this season i guess
I was in a three year super toxic friendship, this is EXACTLY what I wanted to say, Todd learns healthy ways to separate himself from toxic people
That last line at the end there "Right, Sarah Lynn? ... Sarah Lynn?" I was like NO. NO NO NO when I watched that the first time

And the tease earlier in the episode where it takes her a couple extra seconds to open her eyes and respond to Bojack, like "oh ok good I thought she was dead" 👁️👄👁️

saaame I was looking for this comment!!
There are no accidents...
I love how they handled Todd’s asexuality. As someone who is asexual I really related to his confusion and general discomfort whenever it comes to sex. I felt the same as he did, not truly understanding how I felt and wanting to put a label on it because I felt I had to, which I eventually realised I didn’t. I could just be me, and now I’ve built up the confidence to call myself a proud asexual and this show genuinely helped me realise that.
Todd is the character I use to explain my asexuality, and I often use it as an excuse to make people watch bojack. "If you're confused just watch this, you'll get it"
I found out that i was asexual because of Todd. I owe a lot to him. Seeing Todd owning his asexuality helped me find some level of comfort in myself. So thanks, whoever decided that Todd should be asexual.
Honestly, if a show can help you build your confidence up to the point of you being proud of yourself for being yourself, and find out an aspect of yourself, then the show is certainly worth a damn.
I remember I watched this show because of Todd, best decision ever.
Back then it was not confirm, there was a hint, and the community kind of looked at each other and related to his words so hard that there was no doubt in them that he was ace, so I saw him all over social media in ace pages.
I was in a similar position as you, I didn't know if it was right for me to called myself ace, the community was always so welcoming from the start, and I didn't want to betray that trust by later on identifying myself as something else, as I didn't know if I was actually ace or just something else, so I used a "no label" "I don't know" "I don't care" facade, this show, the community, it made me feel it was alright if that happened in the future, that the important thing was how I felt at the moment.
Not to sound condescending (genuinely not), but is calling yourself asexual not "putting a label on it"? I just ask because a lot of people say that labels are reductive (and I agree), but I don't understand why people then give themselves one. And not just in sexualities, but in most things. Your thoughts?
“All three of us were drowning , and we didn’t know how to save each other, but there was an understanding that we were all drowning together “-bojack horseman
Could someone explain to me what bojack means by ‘drowning’? does he mean drowning in your negative thoughts?
@@sesereddead465 yeah what does that mean
@@sesereddead465 the best I can explain it is essentially like failing at life (or struggling rather)or constantly trying to stay alive (metaphorical and literally)
@@sesereddead465 many people with depression describe the feeling like drowning. You're struggling to stay afloat (in life) but everything feels like too much and its overwhelming and you can't breathe, you can't do anything, your limbs are too heavy to move you. Many quite literally cannot make themselves get up out of bed the feelings are so crushing. And you just feel like you're sinking deeper and deeper (into your depression or self destruction) and it feels hopeless to get out.
Free churro is one of the best episodes of the whole show. How they made an entire episode about 2 speeches as good as it was is unbelievable. I mean it was entertaining, thought provoking funny and sad just about a horse talking at the wrong funeral.
What genius writing
Diane’s “There will be nobody left to stop you” and Bojack responding with “There will be plenty of people around when I kill myself!” hits differently after you watch the ending of the show... ouch

Really surprised how you guys feel about PC, she's easily one of my favorite characters. She's great example of someone who always tries to do her very best, usually to benefit others, but life keeps slapping her down. Her getting a happy ending felt very earned. She got what she was fighting for, in her mid 40s, when everyone just assumed her best years was missed out on.
Mail comes
She is a great character but let's not put her on a pedestal, she cares about helping others but most of the time it's with the intention of benefitting herself
@@gabrielagro443 because that's how you get ahead in life, that's how she was taught. Lmao her entire arc was learning how to trust, learning how to be appreciative of those who are important in her life and to learn that you can't use work as a coping mechanism for your life. By the end of the show she ends up being a much more empathic and caring person after her many heartbreaks and setbacks.
I posted this elsewhere in a comment of my own, but I'll put it here, too.:
I don't dislike Princess Carolyn, but I agree that in a series of antiheros, she's not that good of a person. I get that she's a product of a rough upbringing (a running theme throughout) and cutting her teeth in a cutthroat industry that she'd rather have than have to go back to where she started at, but Todd's monologue to Bojack can apply to her, as well (and every OTHER character in the show, for that matter). Some of the shitty things she's done:
- She stabbed her assistant in the back.
- She worked with Turtletaub to sabotage the unionization of The Hollywoo assistants, and only cared when she personally identified with it
- Rutabaga cheated on his wife, yes. But he did it with P.C.
- In one of Bojack's instances of compassion and reflection, he tries to influence that kid from his acting class to slowdown and not rush into the industry; finish school and enjoy life. All the while, P.C. is trying to push him into the industry cause that's HER bread and butter. He signs and probably got swallowed up by Hollywoob after the series finale
- She defended the Bojack/Penny thing as NBD
Etc, etc, etc
@@MrShabindigo To be entirely fair PC was really not cool with the cheating and she thought Rutabaga was breaking things off with his wife. When she told him she wasn't comfortable with it anymore he guilted her over it. I do agree with the rest tho, but honestly it's why I love PC! She's a flawed and complex character like all the rest on the show. I wish people acknowledged her faults more instead of treating her as an unambiguously good person because I feel like it does a disservice to her character.
never noticed the relevance of the "Ophelia's suicide' painting behind Sahra-Lynne... The tragic female side character, driven to an ambiguous suicide by the negligent and selfish man who rips her out of her life and then ruins her existence with disinterest and a preoccupation with his own problems....yeeesh

Here's the poem for those who want to see:
There is a willow grows aslant a brook,
That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream;
There with fantastic garlands did she come
Of crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples
That liberal shepherds give a grosser name,
But our cold maids do dead men’s fingers call them:
There, on the pendent boughs her coronet weeds
Clambering to hang, an envious sliver broke;
When down her weedy trophies and herself
Fell in the weeping brook. Her clothes spread wide;
And, mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up:
Which time she chanted snatches of old tunes;
As one incapable of her own distress,
Or like a creature native and indued
Unto that element: but long it could not be
Till that her garments, heavy with their drink,
Pull’d the poor wretch from her melodious lay
To muddy death.

I actually think Todd's f bomb is the most impactful out of all. Less the word itself, but what he says leading up to it, concluding that Bojack is the problem with himself, and something about the delivery too. Todd just sounds so done, and the whole scene is just amazing
Yeah, I feel like the whole speech before and the ‘it’s you’ have more impact than the f word itself and that works well.
Sides army we have found
Yeah, I don't really get how they didn't think it was nearly as impactful as the earlier ones, it hit me really hard. Todd was a character that offered a nice break from the dark introspective parts of the show, only for him to give the most introspective and harsh moment yet. It was when everything just fell apart for Bojack and you knew that it would never be the same again.
It was the moment that elevated Bojack from a show that I liked to being one of my favourites, and Beatrices past in S4 cemented it as my favourite show of all time.
Fuck man what else is there to say
I remember watching that scene thinking Todd's inner Jesse Pinkman coming out
Todd’s F bomb got me because it’s the first time a major character cursed him out. Herb was kept in shadows until his episode in season 1, and Charlotte was pretty much a side character, but now it’s gotten to the point Bojack is sabotaging his current relationships. He can’t run off and hang with these goofy side characters who will be there since they’re part of the shows main cast. It signified to me that anyone at this point could get sick of Bojacks shit and leave. He is a ball of toxic spikes, and soon, everyone was going to notice the danger and walk away so he couldn’t hurt them anymore. The fact this speech came after Todd slammed Bojack for what a shit person he was emphasized this all the more. Bojack is horrid, and anybody, no matter who they are, is entitled to cut him out of their life. Poetic cinema.

It made me really sad, but made the show so much more realistic. It was the only way to be after that

I actually think that Todd’s f-bomb is the most impactful of the entire show. By this point, we know the meaning of the f-bomb in the show, that being Bojack permanently ruining a relationship, and to hear this coming from Todd, the most wholesome, innocent character in the show, is all the more surprising and heartbreaking
Show we forgot
Exactly. It’s also a good contrast to last season, where BoJack saved Todd from the improv cult by giving a monologue to Todd about how much his friendship means to him.
"There are going to be times when you'll see someone in trouble. You're going to want to rush in there and do whatever you can to save them, but you have to stop yourself, because there are some people you can't save....cause those people will thrash and struggle and try to take you down with them"

I honestly didnt like that episode. It was super preachy and unsubtle with its messages that it was more like watching a ted talk than watching a show. I still love bojack but I think that episode is really overrated.
@@julian1127 honestly it’s the worst episode in the series, easily, IMO.
@@julian1127 I really don't know how you see it like that. Unless you are anti-abortion, then I guess the whole premise triggered you. I'm not vegan but I could probably enjoy a joke about vegans actually being killed by the sight of meat. Maybe you shouldn't take yourself so seriously?
@@DaveWraptastic im not pro life, my position on abortion is that it should be safe legal and rare. even if i agree with the message of something, if its presented in a preachy way its unenjoyable. An example of an episode about abortion done right would be the always sunny episode about it

Honestly, Princess Carolyn is the character I connected with the most. There's something about her trying to make everyone happy and even if that means it's immoral, also she's kind of nice to see as a career woman.
“Why are you helping me?”
“Because my life is a mess right now and I take care of other people when I don’t know how to take care of myself”
I think Todd's F bomb also has an underlying sadness/regret/"I wish I didn't have to do this" to it. Because for all the shit Bojack threw at him, he did still offer him a place to stay for years, and put up with his nonsense all that time, albeit spouting sarcastic insults and harsh criticism. I think on some level, Todd genuinely appreciated things about Bojack and their relationship, but things just became too poisonous and abusive, and, after years(!) of trying to put up with it, he'd finally had enough, and had to, regretfully, let it all go.
While Todd wasn't the first to give up on Bojack, It's tragic to see it happen from arguably one of the people closest to him. Admittedly this is somewhat watered down by how unhostile they seem to be in their later-season interactions, but it could just be Todd putting on his usual friendly demeanor, and/or an effect of him breaking free from Bojack's continued abuse. It may hurt in the moment, but them breaking apart was for the better.
A sad story
When Todd couldn't explain how he felt with his identity, I remember thinking that during my freshmen year. I felt so confused, as I knew I wasn't gay, or straight, and I honestly thought something was wrong with me. So whenever someone asked about how I felt about people, I'd say something like 'I'm not sure.' I literally only found out I was aromantic asexual after I saw someone comment the word on a random post online, I looked it up, and felt...normal. For the first time in about two years, I finally knew that how I felt, was normal. I'm really happy with how they did Todd and his accepting of his identity. The awkwardness, confusion, and dodging of things relating to it, until he just came to accept that he was just different, and how that was okay.
Honestly, yeah. Todd is my fucking ✨icon✨

Not to be aggressively negative, but what is it about seeing a character with a similar character trait to your own for the first time that makes you care in this way?
@@freddiesimmons1394 When society heavily re-enforces every single day shit like "sex is what makes us human" and puts sexual content EVERYWHERE, yet you can't relate to any of it and it makes you feel like an outcast, I'd say it's pretty comforting to see a character in a show like you for the first time. Not only are people, by nature, attracted to characters they can relate to, but it also shows society is finally acknowledging you exist instead of painting you as an alien.
@@freddiesimmons1394 When people like you aren't represented in media, it contributes to the internalized belief that your distinguishing traits make you less important. After all, if you were worth telling a cool story about, certainly someone would have done it by now, right?
When I first watched this show, I related very heavily to Todd's discomfort around sex, and I recall thinking to myself that I might even start to headcanon him as ace. When he actually came out though, I was legitimately surprised! Despite having picked up on all the clues, I still didn't see it coming because of how deeply I had internalized the belief that people like me don't get to be in stories - that nobody wants to hear about us.
The scene where he came out made me cry because of how deeply relatable his confusion was. But, the part that made me cry the hardest was the credits. Since it was the last season out at the time, they played in full. It was like reading a long list of people that all thought someone like me could actually be interesting and worth making a story about. Until that point, I had just sort of quietly accepted the idea that no one would ever feel that way.

The first time I watched this show, Fish Out of Water was the moment when it moved up several tiers into A+ territory. It really took my ADHD addled mind and made me pay attention and experience something fresh and unexpected. I really did decide to rewatch the show, because of Fish Out of Water’s amazing visual storytelling.
History we sawt
True, both “Fish out of Water” and “Free Churro” made me pay attention to something that i would usually get easily distracted from. This show is so good man
I think the biggest reason BoJack has such a hard time developing into a less toxic person is that because he was raised to both crave affection desperately AND not think he ever deserves it so...he ends up working so hard to get attention and behaves horribly to everyone he gets it from. And the only way for him to really get past this is to just stop being horrible while also dealing with the fact that most people are not gonna forgive him initially or at all, and he just has to deal with it. He tried to do that before like with Herb, but he was held back by the notion that he was entitled to forgiveness from Herb simply because he was making the slightest effort.
Such good parenting and life choices
What I get from this is that BoJack's main reason to why he keeps being so toxic is that he thinks"There will always be a second chance with people", but the truth is, there is NO true second chance in life. If you miss out on something, you missed it, there's no getting it back, the only thing that can be done is trying out something new and making sure you succeed on its First chance. BoJack becomes sloppy and disastrous on his first chance because he thinks whatever happens it can be fixed in the 2nd, but he needs to be faced with the reality that there's no such thing as "next time" when it comes to relationships. The second to last episode of the entire series "The view from halfway down" becomes even more meaningful after realizing this.

As for a comedy relief he becomes pointless too the later seasons and just becomes an full time Mr PB enabler.
Oh no, a white Christian cishet doesn't care about women's struggles what a shock.
I was scrolling through the comments to find if someone else was thinking this too lolol. (Well, I disagree about Todd, I love him to death and think he adds a much needed comic relief to what would otherwise be one of the most emotionally rigorous shows I've ever seen)
But full agree on PC. She & Diane were my favorite characters, and I especially loved the way PC was written. I've just never seen a woman get to be that way, it was so refreshing and relatable. Same with Diane--I loved seeing everything they did and how every action added to their journey as people. I kinda wish in these videos he would acknowledge that maybe he doesn't relate or care about the woman characters for gender reasons lol. Like sure, he can not relate to their characters and not be moved by their journey.... but it sure sucks to tell tens of thousands of people that they are poorly written. Yeah opinions and whatever but maybe dig a little deeper...Granted he says he likes PC after an episode in this season, but to take this long to see that she has any value makes me shudder. Or to basically say that Diane did nothing this season and that it's all setup for the future. Like... that's what a character's journey is. She was struggling and floundering like other characters, caught between wanting to follow her moral ideals and her need to actually have a job that she can do, all while just trying to be a person. It seems like he is so much harder on the woman characters and is quicker to think that they are bad or boring people. Again, opinions are fine I guess... but still.
@@PaizuruInsanal Did... you just accuse Schaffrillas of not liking PC due to not caring about women's struggles? How did you come to that very extreme conclusion exactly?
@@PaizuruInsanal Imagine having a different opinion what a shock
I actually don't find PC a relatable character to me as well. Sure, she's a very real character. But her story arc revolves around a highly motivated person who pursues success in life. Not everyone would find that relatable. Personally, she's only relatable to me to a small extent, I don't find myself struggle to separate work from life. But there are other characters I identify more with.
I find Diane more relatable because of her story arc. She is someone who deals with her trauma and holds an impossibly high, mostly moral, standards for herself and others. It's super hard for her to be happy. I see myself in her the whole time.
My point is, each person has their own story of life, hence relating to different characters at different levels. And we should all reepect each other for that.
I connect the most with Princess Carolyn lol
Her writing is amazing and her character arch is exemplary.
Her struggle with working too much as a distraction from her unsatisfying life, all the attempts she made to improve her life failing each time, and the stuff from next season and my favourite episode Ruthie that I won’t mention because some people may not have seen it is just heartbreaking and I empathise with her so much.
Love Princess Carolyn, she is my favourite character
I’ve cried several times over the Sarah Lynn arc.
Given all the context of Sarah’s life, it hits way too hard.

@Cornelius The Wizard a good horse.
I don't know why but Todd's "fuck, man" is my favourite of the show
It's because it's so different from the others, but so grounded and earned. Todd's been with Bojack for ages now. He's seen every drunken stupor, been the victim of a lot of verbal abuse, even ridden out some of Bojack's worst plans with him only to be taken for granted at the end of each and every one of them.
The others come from characters realizing a sudden, horrible new low for Bojack, whereas Todd has always seen him going lower and lower, so when he finds that not only his personal life, but his external friend group is at stake? The ones that have been at arm's length from Bojack for years? That's when he finally speaks up and knows that he needs to change things with his long-time friend.
I personally get chills every time I hear Charlotte's, and that one takes the spot as my favorite, but I absolutely love this one and it hits in a completely different way.
Drones the top
Just an amendment to the video, Sarah Lynn was technically sober but not emotionally sober from whatever drama she had. She was still hounded by paparazzi and in no emotionally healthy state despite being sober for 9 months. One of the episodes that I feel like you missed out on for the theme of this season was about how Sarah Lynn has always been struggling emotionally and literally says to Bojack "the light inside me is dying".
Sarah Lynn was just looking for an excuse to drink and was still self destructive with no self discipline. If it wasn't Bojack it would have been someone else. This doesn't excuse Bojack from all the shitty things he's done but it explains why she did what she did.
Honestly Episode 11 of Season 3 is the pinnacle of Bojack to me and it never got better. Just 2 emotionally crippled people that have self destructive cycles and that never got those emotional needs addressed. It's unfortunate that we never got that resolved for Bojack.
Honestly, I was surprised by Todd’s f-bomb. I thought that it was going to happen during the show, but I thought it was going to be one of the last ones (I had also predicted that Diane would be the final one). I didn’t expect Bojack and Todd’s relationship to fall apart this early into the show.
Just a good ball

some of the best autistic representation ive ever seen !!! it reminds me of how they handled diane’s weight gain - just a thing, not the butt end of jokes and both representation was so important and so good
@@TheSlamMiles right?? I have literally never seen a show that treats weight gain as a positive and necessary thing without demonisation or cruel jokes. I just love how this show treats people (heh- and animals) as people and lets them grow and change and be. I *love* that Judah was seen as competent and loved for exactly who he was without needing to be forced into being neurotypical. I love that Todd is ace and his silliness and hijinx was never once linked to his sexuality because- again- he gets to be a whole complex person. I just really want a boxset of this show so that I can rewatch it if Netflix ever remove it, it's beautiful!
Todd is one of the best representations for asexuality in all of media. He is actually the reason I started watching BoJack in the first place.
And acutely a person
Same and I'm not even an asexual
I find myself agreeing with William about the Todd F-bomb. In my opinion, it's one of the best moments in the entire series as Todd represents not only himself and the years he spent being himself a victim of Bojack, but many other things; the viewers' idea of Bojack, the idea that the show wants to pursue, and the truth. Bojack's actions are a result of Bojack - nothing more, nothing less.
Many people in this fandom seem to justify Bojack a lot - I've seen it in the Italian community a lot, funnily - maybe because it's reassuring, sometimes, to be lifted of the burden of a very very bad action you did. It's much easier, even unconsciously, to blame your past, your traumas, other people. But we all must realize that these are not justifications, they're reasons, and will never relieve you of an action you did (of course assuming the person was conscious and not heavily influenced/manipulated by others). Todd, maybe the simplest mind of any character in the show, acts as the voice of the show, of a larger meaning, and delivers the harshest thing to hear, that many of us need to hear: it's not the drugs, or what happened when you were a kid.
It's you, and it will always be you.

I was homeless when this season came out, newly moved to Washington after escaping my life in Oklahoma. I watched this whole season waiting for my future employer to finish my background check, huddled up in the library in Seattle connected to the Wi-Fi, unable to afford even a phone bill. Exploited a free trial to watch it at launch, and seeing this gave me a lot of the "strength" I needed to keep going. I watched the first two seasons during a really bad period of my life, where I ignored the effects depression and other mental illness had on my personality and the way I treated even the people I loved, and slowly faded into the background of my own life. I felt like I was always going to be stuck there, like I was doomed to die in that ditch I dug. I almost used them as justification for it, in a way, getting some kind of bullshit "it doesn't get better" message from it. After I decided to keep trying and moved, I started to realise it doesn't get better if you don't try to make it so, and I don't mean that in a bootstraps kind of way. Even the issues you can't control can be mitigated with help from others, and all it takes to start healing is to ask. Later seasons would reinforce this new interpretation for me, but season 3 in the library was when I first saw it. Four years housed now, radicalised by my experiences, and not trying to stop anytime soon. Thanks, BoJack.

PC is really great this season, probably my favorite character
Have we found it
I feel some foreshadowing with the "Horsin' Around' is a fine legacy to have for BoJack
A round up score
PC and Judah ending up together was the most pleasant surprise for me
Never noticed that everyone is dressed differently in 07 except Bojack, makes those grey hairs in the last season really mean something (I'm pretty sure he dresses slightly differently too)
The fact that bojack waited 17 minutes to get help for her, the fact that she was still alive and just passed out when he thought she was dead and all he needed to do was get help and she still would've been alive omfg
Personally Princess Carolyn has always been my favourite character in the show. I just always liked how she was so hard working in her professional life as well as how she motivates and supports others to achieve their own goals. But she’s also this maternal person underneath it who wants a family but can’t find the time to
As an optimistic person, "That's Too Much, Man!" broke me. It's not that I didn't root for BoJack or thought he was a good person, I just thought this episode was literally destroying any semblance of goodness in BoJack's character.
Aside from the stuff you mentioned, I detail I always dwell on is that BoJack believes that Penny is still suffering for what he tried to do to her. This doesn't seem like much, but, looking deeper, It's immensely selfish on BoJack's part.
BoJack believe that Penny is traumatized from her encounter with him and she has not gotten any better in the time that they last met, as if BoJack believes he is the only one in the world who can help Penny.
And, when BoJack and Sarah Lynn finally talk to Penny, she seems fine, she is obviously unsettled by the sight of BoJack, but she still looks like she's doing a lot better than we last saw her, which actually did make me smile for a moment.
Then BoJack attempted to reconcile with her and I am completely on Penny's side in the argument.
Still, I always thought BoJack was designed to be an unlikeable character, but...this is...well...Too Much, Man.

I'm gonna have to disagree on the idea that Secretariat was turned into something so bad it couldn't win an Oscar in reshoots. An uncompromised, damning story about a real person was turned into a biopic "based on a true story" full of inaccuracies and feel-good moments that allow the audience to walk away satisfied. (Also, BoJack's acting was ENHANCED with CG.) Off the top of my head, here are some Best Picture winners that fit that description: Green Book! A Beautiful Mind! Argo! Shakespeare in Love! TITANIC! Forrest Gump! The King's Speech! Spotlight!
The Secretariat arc of S3 is great because it shows us how Oscar bait is made and packaged, from start to finish, and why it works on the Academy Voters. I feel like it being an obviously hacky and contrived movie is the POINT, not a mistake.

I think it's interesting to hear about which people relate to which characters the most and it probably says a lot about that person and their struggles, personally I found that every single character of the main cast was incredibly relatable, especially PC her whole story and most of her arcs really spoke to me, I see her as a career driven women who can't have kids and is rather emotionally unavailable and bossy due to parentification at a young age....I see myself in her and I share a lot of her fears, struggles and confusion

Todds f-bomb imo hits hard because he’s the comedic relief and spends most of his scenes just getting into antics. So to have him drop it just reminds us that he isn’t all jokes. idk it was a moment for me
Honestly Todd is the best Ace Rep I've ever seen, I apricate his story being presented this way so much, it's such a real journey, one a lot of us have gone through. Thanks for covering him so well too, can't wait to see the next part!
Princess Carolyn is actually my favorite of the main 5.
Todd and Mr Peanutbutter are endearing and I admire their optimism, but PC goes through so many more struggles than them - some self caused and some she just got unlucky for - and it endeared me to her through her determination, and made it hit harder than Bojack whenever she did something reprehensible.
I kinda got used to Bojack being horrible, so it hurt less seeing him do it. Same for Diane. But something about Princess Carolyn and my admiration of what she overcomes makes the things she doesn’t overcome hit so hard.
The stinger in Season 1 when she does her whole job perfect and ends her night alone on her 40th birthday? When Rudebega tells her that he and Katie are getting a divorce? When she tells Bojack that the grandchild telling her story for the whole episode was just her imagination?
Easily the conflicts I was the most attached to through the series.
PS: I only know Rudebega’s wife’s name bc that scene lives rent free in my head.
I thought Sarah Lynn would be fine. I panicked the first time she was asleep, so I thought she was just dozing off again the second time. Nope

My favorite tragic thing about this season's episode 11 is that the painting above Sarah Lynn's bed at the beginning is of Ophelia drowning, unable to help herself
I actually would mention the sequel show and Bojack refusing to do it at the end is one of the most important moments of season 3. He realizes he’s continuing the cycle again just putting new people to hurt. Going back to the old way he lived. And after two seasons he finally has the strength to stop it. While he still falls into old habits for the rest of the show this is the last time he fully stops reliving his personal past.

My personal favorite part is the lifeguard thing with Ana in That’s Too Much Man!, in that in the beginning it acts as a little gag for the episode, but then when you actually hear that it’s about how you can’t save everyone, for me at least it hits deep. I’ve known friends who I’ve wanted to be there for but in the end you just end up making empty promises that sound cool on paper, but in reality you realize that it’s never gonna happen, no matter how much you wanted it to. It also in a way alludes to very last episode of the entire show, foreshadowing it.
