When it comes to alternate choices, you left out the elephant in the room, from Porsche's own lineup: For $35k less, you can get a Cayman GTS4.0 with (on paper) 6 more HP - naturally aspirated at that, 200 lbs less weight, engine in the middle, and a manual transmission.

It's refreshing, but the Porsche tax is just too much for this. Supra w/ manual is 1/3 of this price. Does it offer only 1/3 of experience? I'm inclined to think no. You do have to pay extra for the Porsche badge.

You can’t do the “does it offer 3x the fun?” Game. simple math never tells the full story. Fact of the matter is that 100k or 140k is still out of reach for most people. Even if you can write the check, it has to fit into your life amid things like (for me) kids’ education, retirement planning and vacation home purchase. Face it, consistently make 1/2 mil to a million a year or else find another car to scratch the itch. Doesn’t stop me from consuming the videos, but I doubt I’ll ever buy one.
Or…..get an allocation, spend the $, and show the discipline to drive it for 2 or 3 years and sell it. Likely for minimal or no loss.

I own a 992.1 T that I drive to actually go places. I was surprised how useful the 7th speed is on multi-lane highways. You know the ones with a high rate of speed and too much traffic in all lanes. You can cruise quietly and calmly at about 2000 rpm in that gear. I would miss 7th gear if I got the new one. This experience and attempting to build/order a Z06 for years now, has killed a good bit of the enjoyment of automotive enthusiasm. I don't know where you live, but in my area most dealers are "Porsche Centers", so they are directly owned by Porsche.
They are generally very friendly and usually try to create a "great experience" when taking your money 😅
If you find the occasion xxxhole, you simply go to another center. They are everywhere.
Of course, as a first time customer they won't sell you a model which is short on supply, knowing you can turn around and make some profit. These they only sell to long -term customers.
Also, in my experience, nobody looks down to you if you have a cheaper or older model.

I absolutely love Porsche. But that said, they've gotten way too high on their horse and are pricing their vehicles out of the range of most buyers at this point. I owned a Macan GTS and while I loved it, it did have quite a few small issues under warranty. Porsche is really becoming a private member only membership club type carmaker and it's a shame to see. The big winner is Chevy with the C8 and the Z51/Z06/Eray for half the price of the 911s

I recently went with a manual Cayman S. Porsche is making it hard to get an entry level manual 911. Where I live, there is a luxury car tax that would have put the 911T, with a few options, at close to $200,000. Not to mention having to wait for an allocation to appear. Having driven both, I fell in love with the Cayman and, performance-wise I’m not missing anything in the canyon roads that I prefer. Yes, for the same money I could have bought a C8. But, for me, half the fun of driving a sports car is the manual shifting. What can I say, its a sickness 😂
    Great video!

  • @Bmontepeque11

A thousand variants of the 911 and this is the only one that matters. THIS is the sports car 911, like a GTS, but without the extra 100hp+ (which you didn't need realistically) add a manual transmission, and much more affordable.
Sure, the GT3 and the S/T (which in itself is just the Carrera T concept applied to a GT3 instead of a regular Carrera), are more amazing, and yes they are. They are PERFECTION. But they are also stupidly unaffordable. This is also unaffordable but feels more pure in its intent of delivering a great sports car for the masses. This is my favorite variant among the regular 911s. And even among the whole range this is in my Top 3 alongside the GT3 and the S/T (Once we get a 992 Speedster this might be dropped out of the Top 3 though)

Is the Cabriolet a noticable performance difference? Will I ever actually use more performance than an S/4S on the street? Personally, what puts me off is the deletion of the 7th overdrive gear for motorway use and the limited interior options. I'd be paying more for a T with poverty-looking cloth interior than a base Carrera with black/cognac semi-aniline. May as well hold out for a manual S.

I think the digital rev-meter could easily show optimal revs for the lower gear during downshifting, but I am afraid that Porsche will then package it as part of 16k "enhanced driver package".
