I have a 2024 Carrera T, 7 speed. Spent $150k for it, and i would say totally worth it. Not a quiet car, but super fun to drive. So fast, I couldn’t imagine needing a faster car on the road.
I purchased a 2024 Carrera S, 7 speed. I spent $158k and find a way to enjoy all 443 hp from time to time. Sure I don’t really need to use it but it sure is a blast when I do. The T was a hot car during Covid with good resale value. I considered a used 991.2 T before I received my C2S allocation but couldn’t justify the price (low mileage cars were often at or over list)
One other advantage of the base engine is that the smaller turbos kick in at lower RPM and spool up faster than the bigger turbos from the S. makes driving the base that much more enjoyable when you’re not going flat out (which is a rare occurrence on public roads anyway)
My wife and I landed on the 992 T when we couldn't get an allocation for a GTS. Porsche's 50k loss in margin turned to our benefit, as this has proven to be a remarkable car. It is the largest car in our garage, so handles grocery duties, and does so with aplomb. The car is competent in the snow as well, just not when there has been a good amount of accumulation (low ride height makes it a plow). The seventh gear is fantastic on highway drives, and the first six gears are close enough spaced to give a competent range for each selection. The sound you noted in the negatives is very much a function of the reduced sound deadening from the car, as well as the light weight windows. I find it more engaging as a consequence; you do hear more in the T, but not so much more that you can't have a conversation on the phone at 120mph. Short of a GT3 Touring, I wouldn't trade a T for any higher priced model in the lineup.
I really think you would have enjoyed the GTS a lot more without that lightweight package. The thing is, most of the options in the lightweight package can be added a-la-cart. So you can add the lightweight/noise insulated glass, full bucket seats with rear seat delete, carbon fiber roof individually and still retain all the standard noise insulation.
I have to admit that I've watched this video more than I'd care to admit. Probably the best one out that probes the nuances of the T without the formulaic YT options list. I hope your opinion of the car reflects how you "really feel" about this model. I've had mine for a few months now and think it's a wonderful introductory version of a modern 911 that respects the original 1968 ethos.
Really positive review Joe. I'm lucky enough to have one and you summed up in 20 minutes exactly what it is like to live with one of these. It really is a fantastic road car. So glad you liked it.
I loved this video and as for power, I think that we've all become rather fooled by the high horsepower thing that supposedly is a must .....I recently had a spirited drive of a friends 996 C4S and frankly, that felt fast and such fun to me, so I love that you articulate that one doesn't need 500 or 600 horsepower, to have or enjoy a good road car. I heartedly agree with you.
I truly love my 992 T in Gentian Bliue (with no decals!) . Took delivery at PEC Atlanta and drove back home via Tail of the Dragon and other mountain routes. Manual transmission is the way to go even if it is the "slowest" option. THe car is easy to live with around town (not as much harshness as one might expect with lack of insulation) and a blast on the back roads. I came from two mid-engine Porsches (a 718 and before that the 987) and appreciate the uniqueness of the rear-engine handling quirks (even though it's tame compared to the old air-cooleds). The PEC experience was well worth it for the track time, skid pad, and autocross fun with the 911, and helped prepare me to appreciate the differences. And I don't have rear-axle steer, and I cannot imagine what I might be missing if I did - the car is brilliant as-is.
Excellent review. I think a lot of affluent buyers are buying cars for the talking point. If they can afford it they opt right up for the GT3 RS even if they arent into track days. Ultimately a great sports car is about a robust engine a great gear change a planted suspension and direct steering. So if the Carrera T delivers you just endorsed that mix making it a great car to drive. Thanks for a driver's review
Really good review. Thank you. Not the 992 for me, but it's clearly the one to go for if you want a manual coupe. My main concerns are the lower, stiffer suspension, and the fact that you are stuck with a black interior -- although if I had to have a black interior the Sport-Tex has to be the way to go. And I have to admit the sports exhaust also sounded good; I didn't notice any annoyingly incessant pops and bangs.

Joe, I would pretty much spec mine the same as your spec. I had an allocation for a T a few months ago, but had to back out due to life circumstances. But I’m so glad I did because NOW I really know how to spec my forever Porsche - the only car I will need for the rest of my life, to drive every day and grow old with! I don’t care that I could’ve saved money because this was before the price increase, but to me the right spec is more important than money. I also need to thank the new ST for making me realize that the simpler the 911 the better. Yes, no BS rear wheel steering. Always love your videos Joe. And I have a strange feeling you will own a T one day real soon. Keep on rolling my friend and hope to meet you one day…
Finally, I will be receiving my order for the 2024 Porsche 911 T (992.1) next week - and I must say, watching your review has made the long wait, well-worth the wait! I’ve been watching heaps of car reviews from various Porsche 911 experts and enthusiasts and I must say…..mate, your review (by far) is the best I’ve watched! Put aside the technical, visual and aesthetic explanations aside, the feel and driving pleasure you so eloquently captured, hit the mark for me. And that is precisely why I chose the 911 T over the GTS or Turbo S model. Yes, the price deltas between the models are significant - however, the daily drivability and sports car feel (when you need/want it) made the choice more obvious to me. I especially liked your commentary on the T avoiding the “laziness” of driving and still pulling like a train when you downshift to 2nd gear vs the same experience with the GTS which still pulls like a train on 5th gear. Brilliant! Great work, Joe and thanks for the terrific review. I can’t wait to drive mine! Cheers, mate.
I love your driving skills; you talk and corner simultaneously at high speed. Agreed with your comments, except for the real steering wheels. Unfortunately, only PDK is available in China. I am collecting my new 911 Carrera T 992.1 in five days :)
That was a cracking review, appreciate the honesty about opinions being limited by not having back to back cars to drive, but at the same time being so enthusiastic for this one.
Your reviews have improved immeasurably over the years Joe--this one was packed full of information and your depth of experience is now starting to shine through. One thing I didn't hear you discuss though, was the brakes, they look tiny up front. And when I tried to spec one of these last week, PCCBs are not an option either. I gather poor braking performance wasn't a concern? You mentioned taking it on track, but I fear it wouldn't last long if you did.
I've got one Matt and on the road the brakes have actually surprised me. They look pretty weedy compared to say the GTS rotors but are really strong. I haven't tracked mine so can't comment on whether they'd last long without fading. On the road they are excellent.
@@gsproperty8798 Nice one. It seems very much a road car though, so it's more a curiosity than a real quandary. I have a GR Yaris that I take to the track and I think the brakes are bigger than these on the 911T--didn't stop us from nearly setting them on fire last week though haha. What about the rear wing? If you specced that option, would the mechanical wing still lift at speed? It would be nice to be able to turn that option off as I tend to think it ruins the look of the rear when it comes up.
😂 Yes I've got the standard wing. It stays down on Normal mode and raises above 60mph in Sport/Sport plus mode. I agree that the car looks much better when it is down.@@matttownsend473
I had a 7 speed manual 991.1. The best way to deal with coming down from 7th is to use the lockout. Not sure if still the same on the 992 but on the 991, you could only get to 7th from 5th and 6th. So when decelerating off the highway, pop the lever briefly into neutral and then back up and right for 5th. It’s still plenty long, zero issues.
That’s a good strategy. I’ll try that later. Also, given 7th is never needed while driving fast, it’s less important that it’s a little deliberate in use. I do enjoy the box less overall though, than the 6sp in my last Cayman GTS 4.0.
I absolutely love the Carrera T, I find that I am only interested in two 911 models, this Carrera T and the GT3 (Which includes it's variants, the GT3 Touring and the S/T) this is awesome! Long live lightweight, RWD, manual cars!
Nice review Joe, but I'm not sure what 992 GTS suspension parts you are referring to that is in the Carrera T. I have a 992 GTS, and it comes with 992 Turbo/S spec suspension with the addition of helper springs. The 992 Carrera T doesn't have the same setup.
T is the pick of the litter IMO...I'll take mine in Gentian Blue with stripe delete, carbon roof, keep the rear seats, manual of course, no RWS, and enjoy.
Picked up a brand new Leon Cupra few years ago, after 1200 miles I swapped out the P-Zeros for Ps4s and the difference in sound and ride quality was more dramatic than the better grip it gave!
I am so glad you argue for delete of rear axle steer. I am picking my T up at PEC LA next week. I really felt that option takes the T away from its purpose. But the internet insists this is an essential option. Also regarding std seats vs 18 way, I don't want thrones in my Porsche. However I am going to daily drive it probably 100 miles per day and I hope they are comfortable enough.
I too picked up my T at the LA PEC. Amazing experience! Have fun! I have the 4-ways and they’re fantastic seats. And… saves 36 pounds over the 18-ways, which is kind of a lot relative to the whole weight savings effort.
New to your channel and my first comment as well. Great honest feedback and love the joy you bring driving this special cars. The Carrera T is the one to get if it was ever possible. Will follow you with interest in 2024 all the way from Cape Town, SA.
Rushed up review or either not, it's still a banger of a video Joe. I really love the way how you describe your experiences with this beautiful car in only two days of driving. Great content Joe! 😎👍
Thank you so much…great review, love your enthusiasm for the car even having just gotten out of a Sports Classic! Have a T coming in 3 weeks time, so this review definitely wetted my appetite!
Excellent review, love your enthusiasm Joe. Does it appeal more than the cheaper non turbo Cayman GTS 4.0? Interesting that the performance claims are a touch slower than the cheaper still M2 (mine coming in a couple of weeks).
@@markofjpeezy3705 Now trying to get a Boxster GTS 4.0 for my wife. £30k less than a 992 Cab, narrower (which is much better where we live), rear boot more convenient than back 'seats' - so have not seriously considered the 992. I have driven the Boxster which is great - but it is not clear if a new one is available before the end of production (electric replacement coming soon).
I daily one… awesome car. Had the previous generation 991 T… not nearly as good IMO. Overall, very easy to drive , great blend of daily driving and performance. Good review. Keep it up
I’m convinced the manual , narrower bodied, 991 T is going to be collectors item for years to come. They didn’t make many, its unique, perfect car for the roads.
two questions, 1. The T or the S if the price delta is not an issue? and then 2. 992.1 or 992.2 given the 992.2s revised uglier (subjective) front grill and all digital display; but there might be some pluses in terms of more power, more color options and some other minor things.
Very interesting review. Were I to choose a 992 today, it would be this car, with the manual gearbox, the back seats and the nose lift (very practical, not to say indispensable in various situations, considering the 992 T has the lowered chassis). I agree with you that one can happily live without the rear steering wheels. For daily use and enjoyment, the more powerful 911ses are needlessly powerful and can easily get you into trouble if you exploit their potential on open roads. As a matter of fact, the most convincing experience I have had at the wheel of a sports car is driving the base Alpine A 110. Which doesn’t prevent me from being a Porsche enthusiast 😄
I’m not sure what the general consensus is so I look forward to reading more of the comments, but I think the power and options are perfect in the 911T. It would be my pick of the 992 generation. My biggest gripe/qualm with this car and Porsche in general is the cost of entry for the base 911. I just don’t think the cars should start in the $90K range, with 1-2 “normal” options pushing you to $100K. I wish the cars started at $85-88K for a stripper variant with the rest of the non-GT range adjusted appropriately.
The 911 T is an amazing car, BUT - impossible to get one (at least in the US / Southern California) without a material dealer markup. Can't even get a base 911 without ADM nowadays :(
I too am lucky enough to have one of these Carrera T's and absolutely love the car. And you optioned it almost exactly as I did but I added a carbon fiber roof (mainly for looks, honestly, but did seem consistent with the whole weight savings thing) and a front end axle lift because I'm surrounded by challenging driveways and haunted by my perfectionist attitude. Also opted for the Carrera Exclusive wheels which are forged and more importantly... bitchin' lookin'! Unfortunately the Bose was not an option in '23 otherwise I would have ticked that box. But... excellent review and thanks for taking us on a fun drive!
@@steveross8811 great question. I contacted Crutchfields and they don;t yet have the intel on the 992 (in other words, they haven't taken one apart yet) and I also spoke with a local specialist shop that works on a lot of Porsches. They didn;t have any specific experience with the 992 yet either. I actually think all it really needs is a self-powered bass module hooked up to the stock system (head unit). That would suffice for me, but I have not yet determined if this is a possibility. And in the end the car is NOT a candidate for an awesome stereo - loud, lessened sound deadening, etc - and I drive the car for the experience not for the stereo.
That definitely is the model to buy and it wouldn't surprise me if Porsche played down the figure's regarding it's ability and performance as they would rather you spend a bucket load more money for a higher model (it's good business sense) which is essentially the same car mechanically as the base model. Also it keeps production costs down all being similar but they do have to cover all price points, it is the perfect sports car and there is no reason to look elsewhere 😂 Joe I hope they are giving you a commission for this review as I could see a few purchases off the back it you can tell the impression it's giving you in the driving experience is off the charts great review Joe and what a car you have created Porsche!!
Small correction: the Carrera-T does not have GTS suspension components. My understanding is that the Carrera-T suspension is the Sport-PASM suspension from the Carrera-S and not the one from the GTS that is derived from the turbo-series.
I had a hunch you'd love it. So now, as a fellow Hockenheim Silver M2 Comp owner, which would you rather have for a daily driver--an M2 Comp or this Carrera T?
Not a fan of yellow! Great car tho, would love to know the different between this engine and the one in the GTS, or if it is just mapping. Also a good set of goodyear eagle f1 Asymmetric 6 tyres would sort the tyre noise out, they are the quiest sports tyres available.
Having difficulty keeping up with the content at the moment Joe, Australia blog this morning now this. I would like that car if only I could afford it!
Great video of another great 992. Out of interest which of your favourite roads are you on for this drive? Looks like the same drive you've used in previous 992 reviews. 👍
Hi Joe! I have an M2 Comp similar to yours and have been considering switching to a 992 Carrera T. Would you make the change coming from the M2 Comp? Thanks!
The first modern day Porsche that I find interesting. Simple lines, no stupid spoilers, manual gearbox. Why do manufacturers constantly chase performance at the expense of driver involvement?
Because the people who can actually afford them cares about the numbers and status more than the experience? They wouldn’t put their money into things you claim to hate if it wasn’t selling in the first place.
Totally on the same page. My last 991.2 GTS had RWS PDCC and PDK and I wouldn't tick any of them again just buy a cayman if you want a mid engined 911 experience. After 4 911,s im bored with them now so wont be getting a fifth but if I did it would be this T and in virtually the spec you describe except colour. Although you're a BMW fan boy does seem you're on the money. 😊
great review as always, is the gentian blue not (or should be ) pronounced gen-shin? like venetian, egyptian, dalmatian, martian etc that are all spelled the same way..... just my opinion...could be wrong
Lovely spec and thorough review as always, really appreciate the reviews of cars we may never get too drive - need to convince the Mrs this would be a good work car 😅
This box is very good and it is impossible for me after 3 months of having a 992/7 speed to miss shift either up or down, a master piece of engineering. Considering the high torque plateau the long gearing is not an issue, it was on my previous NA 981 gt4. Do not forget that the manual has a mechanical limited slip differential vs an electronic version on the pdk again it gives back Some raw natural driving feelings. Not talking about genius steering feedback, brake feel. Mine is under 1500 kg. For the moment I do not notice that tirés noise (I have the rear seats).
Base engine Porsches with the GTS dynamic options (or the T form which is the same), are the way to go for a road car. My Cayman is specced exactly like that. And it’s sublime. You can really work it for the performance. It’s FAR more fun than an over powered car.
I’ve never considered the Carrera T before but it actually makes sense - the only thing I would like is to spec it without the blacked-out trim. I prefer it to be more classy but still looks good
For me this is the bes“T“! It is all about driving pleasure and this 911 delivers. Maybe one of the last modern cars that gives you some of that analogue feelings. A 992.2 version may be hybrid and corrupted by overcautious safety control and nanny system.
I’ll never understand why Porsche doesn’t offer a sound isolation package, I’ve had 911’s for years and use them as grand tourers and they are too loud. They’ve got like a thousand options but no sound deadening
I have added the "Thanks" button (above), small channel donations will help keep me going in 2024 ♥

Disagree. Drove the 718 GTS 4.0 and the 992 T and can confirm the GTS 4.0 is a better sports car in every way. Can’t beat a Porsche NA FLAT SIX.
My dream 911 is the "simple" T so I've watched countless reviews and to-date this is the best.
One other advantage of the base engine is that the smaller turbos kick in at lower RPM and spool up faster than the bigger turbos from the S. makes driving the base that much more enjoyable when you’re not going flat out (which is a rare occurrence on public roads anyway)
And the 992.2 base carrera now has the bigger turbos which will spoil the T recipe if they release a next gen version

I absolutely love the Carrera T, I find that I am only interested in two 911 models, this Carrera T and the GT3 (Which includes it's variants, the GT3 Touring and the S/T) this is awesome!
Long live lightweight, RWD, manual cars!
991.2 T owner here. Sentiment is the same on the older car - really nice review Joe. Subscribing!
Is that the fabled Harry’s Garage S bend you went through there? Nice review!
It is, and add in JayEmm and Number 27 also using it I suspect poor old Harry will soon find he’s traffic choked by all the other UA-camrs! 😂
@@NickForest999🤣🤣 average speed coming soon…
Nice review Joe, but I'm not sure what 992 GTS suspension parts you are referring to that is in the Carrera T. I have a 992 GTS, and it comes with 992 Turbo/S spec suspension with the addition of helper springs. The 992 Carrera T doesn't have the same setup.
T is the pick of the litter IMO...I'll take mine in Gentian Blue with stripe delete, carbon roof, keep the rear seats, manual of course, no RWS, and enjoy.
Love it! My Carrera T gets delivered first week of December. So stoked.
My spec similar to yours. Racing Yellow with Carrera Exclusive wheels. Build date Feb. 1. Arrives March 22. Can't wait!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you so much…great review, love your enthusiasm for the car even having just gotten out of a Sports Classic! Have a T coming in 3 weeks time, so this review definitely wetted my appetite!
Very good review. How is the cabin with the windows down? Buffeting bad?
Fantastic review, I went for the base Carrara so that I could drive it. The S too fast to enjoy! Just buy it !
Excellent review, love your enthusiasm Joe. Does it appeal more than the cheaper non turbo Cayman GTS 4.0? Interesting that the performance claims are a touch slower than the cheaper still M2 (mine coming in a couple of weeks).
I’m wondering how the Cayman 4.0 compares to this as well..
Thanks for the response. Enjoy
I daily one… awesome car. Had the previous generation 991 T… not nearly as good IMO. Overall, very easy to drive , great blend of daily driving and performance. Good review. Keep it up
what do u like about the 992 over the 991?
Very flexible engine, compliant suspension and overall drivability. Perfect daily. Very easy to live with...@@yt310yt
Fantastic review and I completely agree with your thinking. You don’t need 500hp for the road.
I bought my 992S/7 speed from a guy who switch to an Alpine 110S as he drives exclusively on twisty alps roads.
Can't even get a base 911 without ADM nowadays :(
Hi Joe excelent videos!! Will you change a gt4 981 for a carrera t ? What do you think?
Excellent video Joe, I appreciate the presentation on the various aspects, and the attention to detail.
Did you change the stereo? I have a 2023 911 T and don't care for the basic stereo and I'm not a music person.
“It doesn’t matter…It’s just SOO GOOD”
Amen Joe !!!
Could this be a 'daily' in your opinion Joe?
"It doesn't matter." Great stuff. I love this car.
Also a good set of goodyear eagle f1 Asymmetric 6 tyres would sort the tyre noise out, they are the quiest sports tyres available.
bigger turbos in the GTS. Stage 1 tune on a T gives you around 460 hp
Great review. I don’t think there’s anything left to say. Brilliant, Joe!
Having difficulty keeping up with the content at the moment Joe, Australia blog this morning now this. I would like that car if only I could afford it!
Love this review Joe, good work! It would definitely be the 992 on my list 👌🏼
and the best thing is that you can pop a tune, and you will have a 470HP - just a bit more than GTS :) Add downpipes and some better filter - 490 HP
Great video of another great 992. Out of interest which of your favourite roads are you on for this drive? Looks like the same drive you've used in previous 992 reviews. 👍
Maybe a strange question Joe, but how does carerrera T compares against your g81 handling wise? How does front axle and steering feels vs the BMW?
It's pretty clear : you LOVE this car Joe !
Hi Joe! I have an M2 Comp similar to yours and have been considering switching to a 992 Carrera T. Would you make the change coming from the M2 Comp? Thanks!
How do you compare it to a G80 comp AWD??
Hi Joe , m4 competition or 992 t ? 😄
The first modern day Porsche that I find interesting. Simple lines, no stupid spoilers, manual gearbox. Why do manufacturers constantly chase performance at the expense of driver involvement?
You just can’t afford the turbo s
Because the nouveau rich are soft dudes who never learned to drive stick and they just want a car that looks like a Rolex.
Because people want it and will buy it.
Having said that, the T is rad.
Because the people who can actually afford them cares about the numbers and status more than the experience?
They wouldn’t put their money into things you claim to hate if it wasn’t selling in the first place.
Brand new Carrera T vs used Turbo S. The latter might have a steongee appeal...
Joe, your M2 was 460HP 😉(what sort of power will it be reaching in the new build)? Lovin the daily vlogs from Aus btw 👍
Excellent review ❤ I might buy one, or a GTS?
Totally on the same page. My last 991.2 GTS had RWS PDCC and PDK and I wouldn't tick any of them again just buy a cayman if you want a mid engined 911 experience. After 4 911,s im bored with them now so wont be getting a fifth but if I did it would be this T and in virtually the spec you describe except colour. Although you're a BMW fan boy does seem you're on the money. 😊
one question Joe - what is the best manual out of the cars you've tested? 6 speed GT3? FL5 type R? latest M2? it pains me that the manual is dying :(
Joe would get the M3 you had or 911S ?
Finally!! 😂 Been waiting for this review for weeks 😉
great review as always, is the gentian blue not (or should be ) pronounced gen-shin? like venetian, egyptian, dalmatian, martian etc that are all spelled the same way..... just my opinion...could be wrong
Thanks!
Thank you 😊👍🏽
Where is that road joe? Looks like a great drive 🚗
Lovely spec and thorough review as always, really appreciate the reviews of cars we may never get too drive - need to convince the Mrs this would be a good work car 😅
The beauty of the 992 Carrera T is that there just isn't much competition at that price point.
Looks like pure joy
This box is very good and it is impossible for me after 3 months of having a 992/7 speed to miss shift either up or down, a master piece of engineering. Considering the high torque plateau the long gearing is not an issue, it was on my previous NA 981 gt4. Do not forget that the manual has a mechanical limited slip differential vs an electronic version on the pdk again it gives back
Some raw natural driving feelings.
Great review, I want one even more now 👍
Joe
How does a GR Yaris stack up against the Carrera T ?
I’ve never considered the Carrera T before but it actually makes sense - the only thing I would like is to spec it without the blacked-out trim. I prefer it to be more classy but still looks good
Less is more🎉
I was hoping you would get behind the wheel of the CT, thanks Joe!
If you could only have one would it be this 911T or the G80 M3?
Was thinking the same, I have a G80. Big price difference though in Australia.
For me this is the bes“T“! It is all about driving pleasure and this 911 delivers. Maybe one of the last modern cars that gives you some of that analogue feelings. A 992.2 version may be hybrid and corrupted by overcautious safety control and nanny system.
13:34 that’s Harry’s garage corner
How is it compared to your m2?
Brilliant review joe.
Porsche gives you less. But somehow you end up with more!
I’ll never understand why Porsche doesn’t offer a sound isolation package, I’ve had 911’s for years and use them as grand tourers and they are too loud. They’ve got like a thousand options but no sound deadening
I understand some versions have a thicker glass option
@@markburton5170 doesn’t help tire noise
Road noise is the major problem
Superb review as always Joe, I hope I won’t be dissapointed in one after my GT4 🤞
On the same page as you! How do you like it and how does it compare to the GT4?
Similar perf to 718 4.0 Boxster GTS?
Incomparable torque curve.
