Not sure how many times you tried to get such a bad result for the BMW. I am a Tesla fan as well, but I tried an older version in the BMW 5 Series 2 years ago and it worked very well, even in tight spots.
@@shannaandsam Not really an "L" for the BMW, Ive tested the same assist on a tight space when i was testing a BMW 340i, and it works pretty much fine.
Aren’t you supposed to hold down the parking assist button on the g20 the entire time it’s auto parking. Edit: okay just looked it up the way you did it is for perpendicularly parking. Not parallel parking
The perpendicular parking chosen faulty is something that I saw also on the Jaguar i-Pace when I tested that. Guess that it’s tougher to decide the parking option than we think
No you are incorrect. The car while passes the parking spot measures the length of the parking spot and if its suitable for parallel parking then it picks it if its not then it chooses perpendicular parkinf
The BMW trick works only if there's nothing that changed around the car. If a car moved around, you'll have a very bad day. So you still need that morning coffee.
That was my initial thought as well. That is something that the AP team could add with minimal time, but it is a big selling feature for BMW right now (at least something they are proud of).
@Dancing Bear Don't make it a patriotic piss contest, I live in Norway and the Tesla makes every German car look like a horse, light years ahead of every single one of them.

By the way you can also slow the move down by pressing slightly on the brake if it goes to fast for you😉 As i already drove the 3 series on my own i can tell you that it actually parks so much better then presented in the video
With all the software updates Tesla pushes, I'm fairly certain they would be able to add the same or similar "reverse assistant" feature in the future via over-the-air update. Sadly, the BMW will not be able to get frequent updates to make it better over time. You would simply need to get the next model to get any new/updated features. That's the biggest fundamental difference between the Tesla and pretty much all other car companies - the software updates which make the car better over time.
@@masterthemind Good luck with that. Don't say BMW does it until you actually see it. How long are they going to do it for? Traditional car companies don't want to give you updates that discourage buying a new car. Technically BMW could have updates even today, you would just have to go to a dealer to get them. They made no updates for existing cars. At best they have an update for maps, that is pretty much all car companies have done. Some have added android auto, only because they promised it and it wasn't ready yet. So they made an update that requires going to a dealer to get it.
The BMW's parking assistance worked.. it just took the the safer parking spot..if you can see where the Tesla went in..it was a very tight spot.. The BMW took the easiest and safer one..I'm a big BMW fan boy..I'd know.
If you haven't noticed, Auto Park on Tesla’s is not very useful, and not very good. It rarely pops up, when it does it is hard to use in a parking situation (have to make sure you have foot on brake, etc., to even say you WANT to proceed and "grab" the function, and if you miss that opportunity, it's gone - unless you really try and move around and fiddle with the screen while traffic is whizzing past, etc.), it doesn't work if there are no other cars around, and it apparently can hit the curb (fortunately I have not experienced this).
I have a 2018 G30 5 series and it definitely does not park like this. I've used it a thousand times and it's almost perfect. I guess if you do not own one of these vehicles and try it for the first time it does not warrant a bad review. Incase you did not know, the lines actually show you which spot the car had detected and intends to park on before it does the job.
Yes, it's the parking brake engaging. Tesla doesn't have traditional gears like ICE cars do so it just applies the brakes when in 'P' mode to stop the car from rolling. Hope that answers it!
Good Drive Ah, makes sense. Bit loud for electronic parking brake in my opinion (don’t recall hearing something like that in other cars I’ve driven with electronic parking brake). Thanks for the info!
I think the BMW on the first test did not want to park there because it didn’t fit there and it wasn’t going to park very close to the other cars you guys should have chosen a better spot.
You're right, that might be the reason. The BMW thought the spot was too small. We mainly wanted to see how BMW's Parking Assistant feature would fair against Tesla's AutoPark function in the same situation. The Model 3 parked into the same spot surprisingly well with room to spare in the front and the rear. Since both cars are similar in size, the 3 series could've fit comfortably as well.
Your test is amusing :-) ... and probably the Tesla assistent is more reliable. I just don't know! But what most people will do now is wrong: they believe that BWMs park assistent is crap. But one can not say that after only 2 attemps und one special situation. Of course, your attemps may say something ... but not EVERYTHING. And you will find people here posting that their park assistent works finde. And not everyone should be paid by or work for BMW =) As I said before ... I dont like the front design und duckface of the model 3. Why cant they build a normal front? The BMW looks way better 6:50 ... sports car vs. kindergarten front design.
Bmw has two parking assistances, standard and plus. Which one have you go? I have the standard one and its great for perpendicular parking, but for parallel parking needs 80 cm more than the car size for finding the place. Maybe it would be a more fair if you compare the BMW with parking assistance plus, and you still save money with the Tesla.
BMW parking assistance is worse than I thought. I thought it would park better and quicker than Model 3. Reverse assistance is pretty cool though. Something Tesla could add in the future.
BMW's park assist isn't perfect. Maybe under other conditions, it would have performed better. BMW might have made the parking assist imperfect so BMW drivers can have a more "hands-on" driving experience :P

Hi Wian, thanks for your comment! The BMW 330i is less than 1-inch longer (185.7 inches vs Tesla Model 3's 184.8 inches). The Tesla parked into the spot with around two feet of space front and back. Hope that helps!
