The Daytona Beach Bandshell is an amphitheatre located at Ocean Avenue, north of the junction of Main Street and Atlantic Avenue. On March 5, 1999, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. On April 18, 2012, the AIA’s Florida Chapter placed the Daytona Beach Bandshell on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places. This property is part of the Daytona Beach Multiple Property Submission to the National Register.
In the 1920s, residents of Daytona Beach considered this area to be run-down and held discussions on ways to improve it. In 1936, WPA workers began construction on this community-use project that was to cost Daytona Beach $84,000, the federal government $184,000, and be completed in 1938. Originally known as “Broadwalk”, common usage gradually changed the name to the boardwalk. The first facility constructed was the 48 foot by 114 foot natural coquina rock bandshell which seats 4,500. This was begun in September, 1936, and was completed in time for the first program to be presented on July 4, 1937.
Open air concerts, as well as other programs, are still presented in the bandshell. The other structures in the boardwalk area are a clock tower, kiosk, concession facilities, restrooms, subway entrances (now closed), and an elevated walk from Earl to Ora Streets. The City Band of Daytona Beach, under Everett Allyn Moses, began in 1947. They gave summer concerts in the Band Shell and winter concerts at the city recreation hall. Moses also organized a Junior Orchestra. William P. Schueler became the director of both bands after Moses retired in 1952.
MTV Spring Break used to hold concerts at the Bandshell in Daytona. Stone Temple Pilots delivers at Bandshell, on March 5th 1993, a very powerfull live version of band’s biggest hit, “Plush”, then Scott Weiland back to the stage, using a dress to perform the single “Sex Type Thing”.

SETLIST: Plush, Sex Type Thing, Wicked Garden, SIN. “Hard To The Core” (unofficial cd)
Scott pre heroine looks like a completely different person.
Yeah the change in his bodytype and face was ridiculous. This was just a few months before he started using too.
He was dabbling, but yeah. Things change when you can run away from any problem you have and book a killer hotel room where no one will fuck with you for as long as you want.
When did he turn into a woman?
He looks so healthy here, and his voice is so clear, RIP Scott ❤️
@The Good Person we’re still here bro
@The Good Person I revisit this live performance quit a bit lol
I liked the Cherub Scott with the baritone belt 📣🎙❤🤟
Same that came to my mind, its terrible what drugs do to us
no he looked young
When Scott was Scott, there was no one better.
Wow what a great performance. Sounds just like the album. Maybe better. I will always keep STP in my playlist.
RIP Mr Scott one of the best voices of my generation.
Scott looking healthy here. Healthy weight, bright eyed and very much in control of his energy and performance.
What a pleasure this talented band is.
I like the drummer and I adore the DeLeo brothers.
Scott was one of a kind.
They really meshed and we’re on the same page musically
Scotts voice is out this world one of the best
Robert DeLeo is a vintage clothing fanatic. Black and white shoes and polyester shirts. He was the best second hand shop shopper in the grunge era.
One of the few great bands where the live version is just as good as the studio recording
the whole performance is flawless but man, Scott's vocals from 3:50 onwards are just amazing. His range was insane. So much talent. RIP.
He could sing in both baritone and tenor range. Some call it baritenor. It’s uncommon.
@@echase416 Aka Eddie Vedder, Layne and Chris Cornell, pretty much any great vocalist can.
best version live i think so...
Eduardo Donaire ooh idk about that. There’s quite a few other times where believe it or not, this performance of Plush gets blown out of the water! And yeah, that’s w/out any exaggeration there. Don’t know how many of their live shows you’ve ever seen/heard but dig around... you’ll come across at least one or two times where you see what I’m talking about when it comes to performing this track.
I agree. Scott was on it here at just about as good of quality as the album . Sober? Or super comfortable? This performance is good, whereas the other ones I've seen have been not so good
DT24K well 1993 had the best performances of the song years after scott lost some of the power in his voice because of the drugs and his voice got very naisly
can't disagree.
@@DT24K could you name one?
RIP Scott Weiland (October 27, 1967 - December 3, 2015), aged 48
You will always be remembered as a legend.
That guitar sound is epic
Can we take a second to appreciate how much the guitarist killed it!
Yes, I loved seeing him move more in this show. He/they are amazing musicians.
Hell yeah, both DeLeo Bros kill it!!! The Perfect storm on all.3 instruments! And the OG on lyrics
Big hero of mine this guy right here Dean DeLeo. His tone, his chord choices, his riffing, his general badassery. His riffs have more jazz chromaticism and chord voicing that you can shake a stick at. I’d wager, that concept and his stacked mega distortion layered with a cleanish chorus/phaser sound is his unique recipe that made his stand out from all the other growly grunge of the day.
They all killed it! but as a guitarist, these riffs are VERY simple. Anyone with beginner levels of guitar playing knowledge can play Plush.
@@YonOtto You either forgot what it was like to be a beginner, or you have a lot of natural talent, or you’re not playing the riffs right. I agree these aren’t Polyphia riffs or anything, but a barred major 7th C shape isn’t exactly a beginner chord, and the main intro theme is probably early intermediate to get every note ringing out clearly but with no unwanted buzz, notes, or noise. But, definitions of beginner can vary and you’re right that in the grand scheme of guitar difficulty most STP riffs are on the easy end, including this songs.
This band was untouchable in the Core era. This album is something beyond 90s rock. I can’t believe he was 24 with such an aged powerful voice/ lyrics
Early days, the real Scott Weiland. I play him a lot, always! You are truly loved and missed. RIP
This is the best live performance of Plush.
this is the best performance ive ever heard from any band. I still cannot believe how underrated was scott
He wasn't underrated, not at all. As his antics & drug&alcohol use became more prevalent and thus, sadly, overshadowed the band and him.
The band itself was underrated everyone thought they were biting the “Seattle” sound which is bs.
@@joshjnp8900 Anyone with ears and an interest in using them can hear they were LA’s glam rock answer to grunge, not a Seattle grunge copycat. I guess people that never listen to flamenco also think that all sounds the same but c’mon.
Its like listening to the record wow
Nothing underated about having a number one album, plenty of hit singles, MTV videos, multiple albums and tours, books written and all the rest. Christ, they still get airplay on all of the rock stations today.
Scott sang the sh*t outta this song!! I think this has been my favorite clip of a show. I have spent a week listening to nothing but STP. And it has not gotten old yet!! Scott was/is the BEST. R.I.P. to Scott, you are very missed.
Every STP album that was released Scott looked like a different person and sounded slightly different. It's insane how much drugs can change a person. Here he sounded and looked great, this album will always hold a special place for me. RIP Weiland and Chester
This is when Scott was at the peak of his career.. He is missed.
This was Scott's awesome low voice in the early 90s, throughout the years his voice pitch kept getting higher in tone especially with velvet revolver
No question about it.. these guys had it all!! Style, tone, great vocals. One of the best.
Man looking back miss the 90s, people would go out every night to go to their favorite band's concert, this is insanely nostalgic. It was a good time that left me with many memories.
One of the best versions of dis song.. Love it.. RIP Scott..
Love that guitar sound.
Best performance from a rock band I’ve ever seen. His vocals are insane. Love them
Absolutely love when Scott looked and sounded like this! Wish he never discovered......well, we all have his music to remember him by. One Scott, never Another.
RIP 🌹 Scott ,, what a beautiful voice 😢
Scott was at his best here. Looks healthy
the precision in Scotts voice is incredible
30 years ago now. Where does the fckng time go? RIP to one of the greatest rock frontmen of all time. We miss you Scott. 🖤
My Favorite STP song Scott was a legend RIP Scott
I keep coming back to this.
Damn that was a flawless performance, Scott's prime too.
He had a second prime after prison when he got clean for like ...a year lol but ya. RIP
Scott was always prime
@lmpnizkit I understand what you're saying but he wasn't. The final years of his life he sounded like shit and looked awful. He was a complete shell of himself...
Just like people saying that Layne Stayle sounded the best during his unplugged performance, he was a shell of himself and sound no where near as good as he was in 1990 to 1994.
Respect or not , it's not healthy to sugar coat things and lie to yourself because someone you respect is whittling away by their own choices. This is coming from a former addict btw...
I will never get bored of hearing this masterpiece of a song
The story of the song is pretty disturbing. They were so good in their prime. No auto tune. Raw and live and Scott's voice was on point to the fullest here. Thanks for uploading.
That fucking guitar ❤️❤️❤️ this track is one do the best rock songs ever written and performed period. It defined my generation
“When the dogs begin to smell her
Will she smell alone”
Scott, you clever bastard.
This song defines a whole decade for me …
amazing performance!!!!!!… and yes, the gitarist kills it in any way!!!
I cried when Scott died. It's 2020 time to figure out how to bring people back from the dead.
I wish we can make a deal. We send Bad Bunny and we bring Scott W.
Believe me they don't want to come back to what this worlds turning into.
I remember that day when i woke up and got the news. It was kind of odd because I felt like a had a premonition that it was going to happen. Still gives me goosebumps.
I know right
@@nathanmcdonald610 then we need to bring back the 90s and 80s
What an incredible sound! Better than the studio version.
He had some weight on him. Beautiful boy. Gorgeous.
Wish we still had Scott and the Stone Temple Pilots. They were Amazing. Rip, Scott, we miss you
I saw them in 93 in Atlanta at Lakewood. Best live concert I've ever seen.
GOOD OL DAYS !!!!! In my brain im stuck in that era !
Pure Rawness What a killer lead singer Scott.
When it hit the air, I was in bliss. New life watching sunsets over the golden gate. These guys with AIC made life experiences during major life change a fantasy come true. RIP.
I miss him so much. He was perfect 😭😭💔💔💔
This version is so fucking cool, rock on!
I got immense tingles down my spine when scott at the end sings "To find it" and than the third time hits that high note. Crazy man
Sounds just like a studio recording.
People used to have talents like this to be famous, but not 25 years later.
Jon Osterman all you need is a big ass and an instagram
Jon Osterman you clearly know nothing about music today then. There are far more creative artist than stp today. Not saying that stp weren’t good, but they were pretty mainstream and simple which isn’t a bad thing
@Nicky Bobby Cage the Elephant, Tame Impala, Alt J, they are some of the bigger ones. There's Mac deMarco, Slaves, Arctic Monkeys, Royal Blood, Sticky Fingers, DZ Deathrays. All those bands are more indie, I'm sure you could find heaps of bands that sound more like STP, however I'm quite lazy myself in terms of looking for music so my music taste isn't as vast as I wish it was. You can find so many bands just by going out to bars and shit like that, everyone's music is on spotify these day
@@mr.gilbert2790 All fucking shit, lol. You're not making a strong case by proving us right.
@@MrSucc-qi9ru tell me how they are shit then. Express your knowledge for music considering you have so much
Grew listening to them because of my older siblings. That sound at 3:09-3:30 is unreal!!!
STP had a sound and rawness like no other. 🤙
Insane performance from the whole band! I keep returning to this whenever it's recommended on my youtube
This is the best live version of "Plush" in the entire history of the band.
Scott Weiland's voice still retained its original power, perfect for rock n' roll.
Unfortunately, as Weiland sank into drugs, his health and voice disappeared.
In the show "Alive In The Windy City" (2010), it is noticeable how his voice in "Plush" already sounded without power, terribly squeaky. At that time, Weiland was already on his way to death.
I dunno man, I watched that whole set last night and it's amazing, has a strong Bowie vibe. Considering how much older he was as a singer and the abuse from drugs for so many years, he showed amazing range in that concert.
We are all on our way to death.
It legit could be a studio record. Flawless. Better in some regards, I think.
One of the greatest live performances ever. Rip you angel..
Scott's body movement here show's that he really is more suited for "Sleaze Rock" than "Grunge". He's really trying so hard to be withdrawn, low key and all grunge-like... but his body just keeps saying "Sway your hips Scott... sway it...".
I mean that's obvious just watch any velvet revolver video..
🔥🔥🔥 Forever Scott Weiland 🔥🔥🔥
I may not have been there to experience this, but I'm happy to be alive to watch this.
Video at 60 frames per second, a rarity here on UA-cam to find these recordings from the times of VHS tapes. Also, the image quality is superb, congrats dude!
Great time in rock n roll, you could turn on the radio and hear all these great bands and jam out. It was a good time for music and life in general, glad to have had the pleasure to experience it. I hope we have another cycle of great music, god knows we need it!!!
Omg his voice was great I'm 61 telling you this a great loss
Scott really is one of the best frontman ever always have loved his voice, love you Scott
Great times Kurt still alive Scott very emotional man i feel it
STP was the best band from the 90s
THECITYHUNTER Alice In Chains? Seriously though STP has an insane collection of songs and everyone in the band has their own talent that shines through the songs.
@@lanemcdonough5565 of course AIC also dont forget Soundgarden.
THECITYHUNTER True. All grunge bands were great in their own right including Nirvana. They just got overplayed and became a “normie” band.
Smashing Pumpkins
Jonathan Font Don’t get me started on that overplayed disaster. IMO very overrated. I’d say Candlebox should’ve been more popular.
That transition in his voice, and the notes he hits in the chorus @ "and I feel, and I feel, when the dogs begin to smell her..." just fucking wow. Hits me in the gut every time.
I miss you so Scott.
Rest in heaven Bro!
His voice is EVERYTHING..
Amazing song. Teenage memories ❤️
Holy shit! I wish I was in my 20s in the 90s I’d do anything to see this live I love you STP your my all time favourite band just fuckin wicked, miss you Scott 🥺♥️
I turned 18 when this album came out and I wore it out but I was too poor to go see many concerts. This band would be my present choice for ‘93 do over. Now I did see a lot of jazz at my university for free and that was life changing. Thelonious Monk’s son - a drummer - TS Monk (insane), a Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock duet (insane), etc.
song never gets old for me. one of my favorites.
That's a bloody good performance
Always loved this song. Great beat and guitar rhythm.
Voice: Scott Weiland
Bass: Guy
GUitar: Richard Ramirez
DRums: Layne Staley
The best live Performance i ever see from STP. I am glad see Scott live. Never forget.Thanks.
Magnificent band, their artistry and energy here is undeniable. All those critics and lazy people that wrote them off initially were all dead wrong... STP: one of the best bands of the 90s and beyond.. and this song together with 'Interstate Love song' and others, although universal are some of the most Romantic, Cinematic pieces of American art. Up there with Eccleston, Warhol, Pollock, Clarke, Keruac, Burroughs, Bukowski and Hopper.
when someone told me this live is legendary, i can't disagree. !
Fuck ! this was Awesome! they sound great, look great, love Scott's hair, all their clothes, the colours, and the way the footage looks. Footage of certain bands performing live is just great, truthful art and this is definitely it. Fucking incredible ! Miss you Scott but I'm with you everyday through your music. WE all are.
See this kids? This is how real artist perform live , And it’s called...Music
Love this band and song 🤟🤟🤟
El único consuelo es que su música siempre estará viva.
Que performance! Aqui ele parece tão bem e saudável. Descanse em paz Scott.
Greatest frontman of all time.
Rest easy , Scott...aka Melody Man
Back when “backing tracks” from laptops, didn’t make the cut
The mixing and acoustics are so fncking good here. I have the album in extremely high lossless quality but keep coming back to this any way.
Bwst vocalist ever.. Rip Scott
Legends never die Scott Weiland amazing singer, larga vida al Rock,
Iarga vida a los STP yeahhh👊🔥🤘
I love this song and the performance. Rest in peace Scott
When Weiland was on he was one of the best...
Playin’ this wide open on my les paul..it’s always
Iike the first time ! Great fkn’ song!
What a time this was..
Want to take the time to say thank you so much for uploading this this is when his voice was at his prime.
The Greatest! Best band of the 90s next to Nirvana
Not to take anything away from Scott, hwo could I, but what made STP great for me, besides the songs, is how the brilliant instrumentalists drive the ship. They are so stable, and the bass lines are brilliant. What a band!
RIP-The Irreplacable Scott Weiland! 😎
When you hear people talk about the great ones lost, very rarely is Scott Weiland mentioned. He was so underrated. Was my favorite singer in the 90’s
The song sounds so fucking good live
Incredible live singer! He looked so good here, he had the best cheekbones.
