I fondly remember riding the train for Christmas in 2004.
I love the horn! The horn sounds just like an amtrak unit!
Nice livery on these majestic engines, and beautiful scenery as well.
Those engines are tough, old battleaxes of the wars with freight, now rebuilt, and kind of having the liesurely life.
They're definitely living their retirement well

I've ridden the circle route probably 50 times back when I was younger. I still remember the little show they used to put on about 20 minutes into the ride. It's a shame they don't anymore.

One of the steam locomotives is up here in Tennessee and is in the process of being restored for operations on the three river rambler in Knoxville tn

I've never rode the Stone Mountain Railroad but I know they used to run Steam
They did a long time ago. When I was growing up in the 90s they used to push an unpowered steam locomotive with a diesel.
i’ve heard that same horn several times while hiking it, sounds like they have a valve on the horn preventing it from being opened all the way up.
It doesn't. They just try not to lay on it unless they have too, to try and keep the park's peace. I hike the mountain frequently, they can and have opened it wide. Mostly to alert someone on the right of way who shouldn't be there.
Are they gonna have railroad crossing like I always go to this park in the summer time and they never hade railroad crossings.
Where are the steam locomotives now? Are they at nearby museums? I remember seeing them sitting on sidings just out of view of the main station when i was younger (sometime in the early 2000s). I remember they also had a lot of unused passenger cars on the back side of the loop that were in various states of disrepair. I wonder if they are all gone now? I haven't been to the park in years.
General 2 (the one shown in the video) is on display at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Ga. About 45-60 minutes north of Stone Mountain. The other two are elsewhere.
The General II, seen in this video, is on static display at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA.
The Texas II was donated to the Three Rivers Rambler in Knoxville, TN.
The Yonah II was donated to the New Hope Valley Railway in North Carolina.
I don't believe any are operational, but they could be restored.

I don't know where the passenger cars went. A few of their enclosed cars were abandoned and sent to Cordele and Americus Georgia back in 2000 and 2001 and a few were sold to a fire training academy in 2010.2 are still in a rail-yard in Americus Georgia still abandoned and the other passenger cars were left over from when The New Georgia Railroad Shut down operations. one of the last passenger cars left in 2012 after being sold or a company brought it and now there's only 1 Pullman car left and 2 fright cars left. I'm planning on sending the leftover freight cars to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga Tennessee when time and money is right and the leftover Pullman car. Unknown at the moment. I'm also planning to return and help The Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad bring back and refurbish their currently abandoned closed cars. Unfortunately the 2 enclosed cars already there have unfortunately failed inspection back in fall 2018 and haven't moved since the week of 4 of July in 2018. So if you're wondering where everything went that's what happened. and like V12 productions said the steam engines are gone as well. General on Display at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth Georgia, 110 which used to be at the depot was sent to the New Hope Valley Railway in North Carolina in spring 2013 and is currently undergoing an overhaul to come back into service and the 60 which was in front of the Pullman car at the rail yard was sent to the Three River Rambler in SPRING 2013 and is still undergoing an restoration to come back to life.meanwhile the train now has an updated platform and in 2014 all the cars got tv's. some of the tracks in the railyard have been ripped up. the 3 track that used to go into the trees now merges with track one as track 2 was ripped up as trains left Stone Mountain Park. Unfortunately for whatever unknown reason one of their 4 engines was sent for scarp in 2011. All engines were overhauled between August 2010 and December 2011 so lot's of railroad updates at Stone Mountain so be aware

Question is all those places u caught the train accessible by road or hiking i might be catching a train out of Birmingham to spend the spring break with my uncle who lives in Atlanta and now that i have seen this railroad i really want to see it for myself
Yep, they're all along the trails that run around the mountain.
I would basically shoot the train at one spot, then walk or drive to the next location.

Any reason why it’s connection with CSX was disconnected?
My guess would be it was probably too expensive to maintain.
