- Burlington Northern has been gone for some time, but its logo has recently appeared on a modern locomotive. We'll take a look at that unit and several other trains in this video!

The people are saying they want real heritage units. Whoever did the BN logo obviously believes that a pumpkin locomotive with stickers is definitely not a real heritage unit. I totally agree!
To be fair, BNSF's 25th anniversary units were never considered "heritage units" by the Railroad to begin with! However, I'm willing to bet, the BN herald being restored to this SD70MAC probably says what employees and even railfans consider the better era, and that is before BNSF even existed!
The people want more and better heritage!!
They need to stay off of locomotives and property.
Or do they?
@@seaboardsystemproductions9714 legally yes, however...
Foamers are gonna foam
Good luck with that.
One thing is for sure. Not all Heroes wear a cape.
I have never heard of "Greenstein green" before. I have always only ever known that beautiful paint scheme as the Executive paint scheme.
Actually spelled Grinstein who also was CEO of Delta Airlines at one time. If any exist, they are likely stored at Donkey Creek, WY. There were 199 MAC’s there at one time.
@@PCBill0622SD70MAC's are still very much around and in service. Some are stored while some are in Galveston for sale, stripped of their traction motors, but there are plenty still operating that I've seen over the last year.
It certainly beats the "pumpkin" (ick) schemes.
@@PCBill0622 Pronounced Grin-steen, not Grin-stine
@@Greatdome99That's FRAHNK-en-steen!
Would love to see modern War Bonnets, Blue Bonnets, rare Yellow Bonnets, lesser known Gold Bonnets… and if Lionel can convince BNSF, the mythical Black Bonnet thus making it a reality.
Warren Buffett is way too cheap for that. He cares about making and saving money nothing else.
There was a handful of these mac's running the rails... man this makes me feel old, a decade ago. I really wish that BNSF will keep one in the original paint as true heritage for as long as they run.
Out of curiosity, I just checked photos of #9653 on line and it appears to me that the BN nose logo was never painted over after BNSF was stenciled onto the cab sides as far back as 2007. The BN nose logo looks a little worse for wear today, not as "crisp and fresh" as one would expect of something done more recently.
Though very much a "TIL" when the BN's logo was designed, it makes sense when you remember that the Hill Roads were always planned to be merged together, even if James himself wasn't able to live to see his railroad empire finally reach fruition.
Back in 2014 I saw BNSF 5947 leading with BNSF 9595 that had a BN logo but it had a poor patch job as time went on, and BNSF 9554 with the old BN logo on the front which also received a patch job later on. I saw this in British Columbia Canada of all places.
We have swarms of these out here in Colorado and I could’ve sworn I’ve seen at least one with the original logo
My family lived RIGHT next to the Joint Line south of Colorado Springs just prior to the merger when these engines were the latest thing, we saw them a LOT.
The BN is my favorite fallen flag and this video is all about the BN!
Look up BNSF 9761, it's currently on one of our helper sets up in Livingston Montana, I got run it for a bit up the Bozeman pass. It has an older style BNSF logo on the side of the engine and it looks like it used to have a BN logo on the nose but now it doesn't have any logo on which I find weird.
Charlie, I look forward to seeing your new videos! Always very interesting and informative. They need to run that BNSF 9653 up through Rockmart and get the proper paint job on the nose. Great work sir.
Absolute AMAZING Production V12!
Thank you!
Cool video! I grew up in Whitefish Montana and that is all we ever saw there, the green BN trains. Nice to see the image to the old logo.
Charlie, this is a fun and interesting running commentary you have going! Keep it up! Dan Page
Love the heritage units but I've never seen one in the wild. 😢 Great video, first timer here!
Do not give up I saw one today
Great content, keep up your fine work V12 !
Will do, thanks!
I love the old BN white locos. Good reporting today sir. Keep it up.😊
Always learning something new 😁 Thanks.🎉_alan.
I've been seeing these BN/BNSF SD70MACs popping up everywhere. I've caught pretty much every variant so far, except for the PRLX units.
Several times a month I see BNSF Executive paint SD70s working coal trains through Oklahoma. I have not paid much attention to the front logos, but will be from now on. Great video.

I've recently seen a few 70MACs with a BN logo on the nose, kind of nice to see again.
That Burlington northern nosed sd70mac bnsf9653 was here in Lubbock TX on coal train yesterday
I am willing to bet the heritage vandal is someone in the industry
I hope I'm not alone in wanting to see a modern GE unit in Grinstein Green. I love the BN green and black with the white stripes the most, but that BN Executive scheme is still pretty sharp looking, and I think it would complement the GE's nicely.
Oh wow! That’s really cool. I really hope I can catch it. Thanks for the vid, keep it up! :D
Outstanding once again! Thanks!
BNSF 1922 is still wearing a BN stripe nose green paint job yet and still has a ACI Kar Trak plate too. It was built in 1972 as part of the first order of SD40-2s made by BN. It was built as BN 6339, later renumbered (and repainted, as the ACI plate is now showing through that paint job today) to BN 6916 in the 80s. It remained 6916 through the merger until 2009 when it was renumbered again to 1922. It was up here in WI but has been down in NM/AZ since 2020.
I have that numbered BN engine 9653 running on my N gauge layout. More beautiful in real life pulling a load.
I just discovered your channel ad love it.
You are the best presenter I have seen for railroad videos
Great video! These locomotives have so much history through the railroad that they are owned by. It is cool that history is get preserved by some of the most interesting ways!
Looks like a great day! Love the drone shots
Thanks for the presentation. Always enjoy
Ooh, a BN logo on a BNSF? Nice to see that it could be a reference to taking a trip down memory lane. And speaking of BN, I actually saw a few hoppers with the BN logo on it at a Concrete Service Company in my hometown. It's next to the line that is owned by RJ Corman (formerly NS).
9653 used to have no logo on the nose like the SD70MAC at the end of the video
Well at least BNSF 9791 has the logo still, the only one to wear it.
@@SoCalOCRailfan nah 9791 has a fake logo too. I seen it on a loaded coal train down here
@@BNSFBishop huh, never realized just now, it looks so real
@@SoCalOCRailfan BNSF 9795 had its BN logo reapplied at some point, and it's by far the best looking one. 9727 also has one, but it's quite crude looking. 9591 was the only one to never have the logos removed on either end, although it's quite faded now.
@@FragmentXI oh ok, I see now
Great moving video, it really stands out and shows your talent in videography.
Funny how this video was showed up on my feed today. I just caught a Grinstein leading which was also on foreign rail. It was without a nose logo.
Sometimes BNSF Grinstein SD70MACs have the BN logo on the nose while some SD70MACs have the BNSF H3 paint scheme.
There's still some in H2 paint as well!
New to your channel, love your style of commentary
There is a long string of these executive Macs sitting in a yard here in north Minneapolis. Some of them still have the original BN logo on the nose...actually there seems to be three different types of logos on the noses? There's also a very rare modern bnsf high hood unit that looks like a GP40-2 mixed with an SD45? I see tons of oddball and rare locomotives rolling around the twin cities, especially on the Minnesota Commercial, but almost never any heritage units 😢
I've seen a similar unit in my area I'm from the east cost close to Philadelphia and what a sweet catch to see this sd70
More interesting content for us to watch and enjoy. Thanks!
Thanks again.hope you get news on last derailments
Glad I subbed your channel. Excellent report, excellent video. Keep up the good work.
2:44: Lippincott and Margulies also designed GN's Big Sky Blue motif, CP Rail Action Red, Illinois Central Split Rail logo.
3:59: BN's so-called Executive scheme was applied only to its SD70MACs and two F7s and its business train. Gerald Grinstein's wife selected the colors; New Haven McGinnis and ACL's purple schemes were also selected by exec's wives.
BN 1 and 2 were actually F9's and there was an E9AM that was formerly a part of the BN commuter fleet. That one is BN 3. I know that BN 1 and 2 are at the Illinois Railway Museum , And ( I could be wrong) I think that BN 3 is there also.
love the BN classic Logo
Sure the logo on 9653 doesn’t look the best, but it’s one of few SD70MACs that are PTC equipped so y’all be grateful😂
Good footage of NS and BNSF!🛤🚂
Good to see her up front leading her train
As far as Heritage Units are concerned with the Class I Railroads, CSX Railroad was so Late to the Wedding that the Bride left and found someone else. 😬👍
Only UP has done a decent job with this, in my opinion.
Engine colors, logos, & noth’n else matters on today’s railways .
Recently witnessed yellow Virginia engine headed South on the Griffin to Macon railway .
You & me need to hook up for some true stories & sight see’n !
I have actually caught a unit like this with a legit BN nose. It was last year in Roswell Georgia. I caught it pushing a coal train going south.
1:18 I caught that same locomotive as a DPU on a 🌾 train
Great video! But, I do want to clarify something I've seen in comments sections concerning BNSF's 25th anniversary ES44ACs. Those locomotives were NEVER referred to as "heritage units" by BNSF, and as for them doing any real heritage units, I'm afraid you'll be waiting a VERY long time as BNSF has stated they have 0 interest in doing them. Its unfortunate, but at the same time, they, along with all the other class one railroads, have got alot bigger problems than what paint they slap on these locomotives right now!
Wow that's Was great Job Heritage unit BNSF train.👍
A heritage unit, if I may say, should have _the_ paint job, _the_ company logo, or at the very least be obviously not just another unit from the big name. I don't mind 9499 and similar paint jobs, but they have never made me think of BN. Never even knew they were supposed to be heritage units, just thought I was looking at a rare paint job like that KCS grey ghost. Norfolk Southern has done decent schemes; I have the IL Terminal in O scale, and would like a few others (Jersey Central Lines would be first, I like brighter colors). Wabash, Central of Georgia, Iowa Interstate, and obviously the Pennsy would be nice additions to anyone's personal roster. Union Pacific's are pretty good as well, if a bit less notable than NS. A lot of them seem to either be excessively basic or busy, but I know that's my particular tastes and not an objective assessment. CSX did a good job on the locomotives behind the cab. Doesn't surprise me that a big corporation would not be rushing to properly remember the smaller companies they swallowed up to get to where they are now, but some of us still want history remembered and respected.
I liked the first two rounds of "vandalism," and this is good at least to get people talking. Even graffiti is its own art form, and art should never be held back.
9591 is the only remaining MAC with its original logo. 9653s logo was painted on out west back in October while it was in helper service.
9761 up in Livingston Montana seems like it used to have its original BN Logo on the nose but has since been removed. As when I was working the helpers up there on the Bozeman pass it no longer has any logo on the nose. It also has older style BNSF logos on the side of the engine. Definitely the coolest engine I've had the luxury of running
Theres a BN green road switcher (IDK the model) sitting in BNSF yard in downtown oklahoma city. very faded
I think the BN livery is based off of NPs north coast limited? The logo was probably originally also designed for NP as well. Probably said NP instead of BN?
I can definitely see some similarities.
No it was not. The NCL scheme was designed by Raymond Loewy in the early 1950s. BN;s Cascade Green was not NP dark green. GN, NP and CB&Q began painting new and refurbished cars in Cascade Green in 1968. NP's prez Menk did become BN's exec, though.
I think the merger name was supposed to be "Burlington Great Northern Pacific?" I think, I remember something like that. Could be wrong though. It was simplified. I do know there was a BN Unit in Big Sky Blue as a test scheme. Saw the picture. Anyway, as a Santa Fe fan, I'm cool with Empire Builder colors of BNSF as I like that as well. I do wish they put some 70Macs in yellow stripe ATSF and some Sky Blue and especially the NP Black and Gold. @@Greatdome99
I used to Railfan the BNSF Birmingham Subdivision and would many executive painted sd70macs leading trains although they are definitely not as common as they were growing up
This BN wasn't painted on with spray paint. The patch has scratched off to expose the BN logo underneath.
I’d personally like to see more BNSF doing more BN heritage units. My area is BNSF run and every now and then I’ll see a cp or KCS or csx or NS unit. I’d really like to see the BN logo or Santa Fe logo but I doubt BNSF will ever do that
4:19 imo SD70MACes wear H3 the best, compared to other units.
They Look Better With BN Logos Than BNSF OR Other Random Railroad Logos Gotta Love The Burlington Northern And The Cascade Green And White And Black Ones Too
Theirs an original, bn on the Seattle to Spokane line. See it every once and awhile behind a bnsf train.
I love it
Hi
I like your videos
the reason the BNSF H1 MACs went to WFRX was because their leases expired and were returned to their lessor and WFRX picked them up second hand
I don't see any BNSF locomotives up here but all six axle locomotives that Alaska railroad has are SD70MACs
back in the 90s, BN bought 350 SD70MACS... that's a lotta (big) macs
I love these ' vandals'
Hypothetically, railroads could paint entire classes of engines in heritage schemes and no one would notice other than the rail fans.
Yes, many of the macs don't have PTC installed.
I actually saw 9687 leading a train here in Washington State
I just realized that you railfanned the same day Loco did.
UPDATE: as of August, another BNSF Executive SD70MAC was Vandalized and given back the BN Logo but drawn with a Sharpie Marker which is BNSF 9702.
Increíble captura 😊
Vandalism 12 Productions!
9591 and 9791 both have logos on the nose but I think they were put on as well. They do, however, look more legit than the one on the nose of 9653.
9591 is the only one to still have the original logo on either end. All others were reapplied. 9795 is the best "fake" looking one.
25 units for NS now
That looks pretty good
Burlington Northern railroad heritage
I think BNSF Needs to do Heritage Units for their 30th anniversary. BN cascade, green, ATSF 1940s
Bluebonnet, Great Northern, Frisco, Spokane, Portland & Seattle, CB&Q and Northern Pacific. It would definitely get a lot more railfans wanting to visit here in the Pacific Northwest.
It would be awesome, but they're on record saying they have 0 interest in doing any!
You're lucky to get a couple of units with vinyl stickers on them. BNSF puts zero effort into making heritage units, or even *repaints* half the time. It's how the War Pumpkin became a thing and why so many engines are still in schemes from 40+ years ago. They simply do not care about making their paint anything special as long as it keeps the steel from rusting, and even then they dont care as long as the rust isnt *too* bad. Theyre too busy running executive trains for besos and gates to care what people who care about railroad history might want.
Where did this occur at? Georgia like the 2 CSX units i assume?
❤❤❤❤
That was cool.
5:10 flatcars gifted by god for the view

I saw this 3 months ago in locust grove ga
What /which drone model fo you use? Can you suggest how much battery /flight time or range I would need for a drone just to get started?
I use a DJI Air2S. I'd highly recommend it. Around 25mins of battery life. I think most of the smaller drones will give you around that amount of flight time. It's plenty for railfanning.
@@v12productions Thanks !
Honestly i like the logo😮
I think people would like the CSX HUs more if the fade was on the back of the loco, as in it would be the first 3 quarters of the locomotive as the HU then with the very back being in the YN3 livery
I would prefer that as well.
4:07 "From 1995 to 1995" Was that an error??
85 to 95
He said 85 to 95 if that's not what you're saying, the guy above my comment
What equipment do you use when recording off-camera narration. I've been doing it lately on my videos, but I'm never able to achieve that "professional" audio quality. By the way, Awesome video!

@@v12productions Alright, thanks. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next video you'll be coming out with is!
Looks equally good as ANY CSX Heritage unit to me.......
BNSF 9795 has kept its BN logo since it was built. I’m pretty sure all other executive units with the BN logo were graffiti.
9795 had the logo reapplied. 9591 is the only one with original logos on both ends, albeit quite faded now.
BN used to have a gulf war painted loco #1991. I got photos of that locomotive in the early to mid 90's in northtown yard. I have in the past seen white face BN locomotives still active. I am not a fan of the pumpkin paint scheme.
i remember that unit... pretty nice paint scheme to... whatever happened to it?
