Finished just in time for Steven’s MKAL! Looks fabulous.
It's a knitting miracle!!! 😂 Thank you, Carla!
Kristin you did an amazing job on your bubble cardigan. It’s gorgeous.
Thank you so much, Julie!!
This is great! I haven't seen a hand sewn steek, only reinforcing with a sewing machine. I have a sewing machine but it intimidates me. Hand sewing, I can do!
I think I’ve read at least a dozen steeking tutorials, but I’ve never actually SEEN it done before! I’m a very visual learner, so this was fantastic. Your cardigan turned out lovely, and looks like the perfect sweater for curling up on a chilly day with a cuppa yummy beverage and a book or a new knitting project. Thank you for the video!
Side note: I’m disabled due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and EDS (a connective tissue disorder) and haven’t knit in ages. I’ve been so taken with the projects you’ve been working on, I picked up my needles again! It’s slow going, with big needles and big yarn, but I’m getting there. My goal is to knit the Prairie Lace Hat next! Thank you for the inspiration and the nudge I needed to get started again. Happy Knitting! 😁
Oh my stars... that is the ultimate compliment. I can't imagine what a challenge it must be to live with Rheumatoid Arthritis and EDS ... But it makes me SO happy to hear you're able to pick up knitting again. YES! Please take it slow. Your Prairie Lace hat is going to be magnificent! Sending lots of hugs and cheers!!! 🤗💞💞💞
I never knew how mesmerizing it was to watch someone cut in a straight line! I've never steeked before. Your cardigan is beautiful.
It is quite meditative 😌. Thank you, Terri!
The BEST video tutorial I have seen on Steeking! Thank you so much 🤗❤️👍🏾
Fantastic video tutorial so happy I stumbled across it, love your channel
Kristen, I'm a new viewer, having recently discovered your channel. You've just given me the courage to try my own steeking project! Thank you for a clear tutorial and great videos. The cardigan really suits you!
YESSS!!! That makes me SO happy to hear, Sara. Please let me know how it goes ... and welcome to my channel!! 🤗💞💞💞
Congratulations on the timely finishing of this, and thanks for your beautiful video showing the method. It was a great relief to me when you put a book between the layers. 😅 It is a beautiful cozy beast of a cardi, and you wear it well!
Thanks so much, Lysa! Hah... I can't believe it didn't occur to me to use the book before I started cutting in the first place. This could have turned out to have been a VERY different video 😂
There are so many projects I stay away from that are knit on straight needles and because I too am a bit of a lazy knitter I tend to choose patterns that are knit in the round. You just blew my mind (in a good way) saying that you altered this wonderful pattern so you can knit it in the round, so you didn't have to knit flat. You've actually changed how I'll choose patterns in the future. Thanks for introducing me to steeking and making it look doable! Beautiful job on the Cardigan BTW, thanks so much!!
Wow, I really had no idea it would be that simple! Thank you so much for showing the whole process, I know I can steek now! The Bubble cardigan looks great 👍 can't wait to see the Stephen West MKAL!
Easy peasy, right!? 😄 So glad you found it helpful, Summer! Happy Steeking 🤗
Holy crap I will be reinforcing 🤣🤣. I held my breath while you cut 😆
Thank you! It's really helpful and I now feel less intimidated by steeking!
💥 Magical 👌 the Lady with Gold fingers 🤣☺️ Good Job Kristin👍👍👍
Why thank you! 😆💖
@@Voolenvine 😉 have a nice day Kristin 🌞
Really cute sweater! So nerve wrecking to watch, but satisfying at the end😉
Wonderful and I wouldn't of known it's your first time, fearless steeker. Have a fun weekend everyone.
The cardigan turned out beautiful! Yay-all done!😊
This sweater is FABULOUS
It’s a lovely cardigan and it suits you so well🤗👍
Kristin, thank you so much for sharing your steeking with us! I want to try this and will do so on a very small project first, but watching this helped me feel more confident to try. Your cardigan is gorgeous!
That is amazing!!!! I'll have to watch your FO to see how you did your stitches. It's beautiful!!!- Kimberly
Awesome job on the cardigan! Love how all the colors complement each other along with the gray collar and cuffs. Must feel great to have that project done and now you are ready to take on the next Stephen West project ... perfect timing! Take care,
Kris K fron CT 🧶🌻🌞
That cardigan is gorgeous. You make Sterling look eas
Thank you, Patricia!
Kristin you did amazing job. I am so glad you finished it. I made a cardigan for my husband about a year ago wish I knew about this then. Oh well I made it (my own pattern) he loves it that is all that matters.
What a lucky hubby!! The cardigan is extra special because it's got your own loving twist on it 🤗
Thank you for showing steeking in action with superwash yarn! I was always under the impression that steeking is only allowed with rustic yarn or else the garment (and the world etc) will fall apart!
Beautiful! I am knitting mine now.
YAY! xx
Your cardigan looks gorgeous of course🙃
I love your Bubble cardigan. 💕👏🙏🏼🇨🇦
Thank you so much. I will now make mine like that. I learn so much from this video.
Good job. Don’t forget the stitch marker on the sleeve🥳
Thanks! Oh no ... that's holding a dropped stitch I need to weave in 😂
Thanks for sharing this tutourial with us!!! Im definitely going to try it out on a sweater im knitting/ turning into a cardigan. Because why not 🤩
Oh boy here we go! I really want to start Woodlark shawl, but I read a few that have made that project saying that their steek unraveled so I got nervous and put it on the back burner. Even though I got some tukuwool to make it, which is not exactly the slickest of yarns (but oh so pretty)
Great job Kristin! I would be too nervous to steek, but you made it look easy!!
Thanks so much, Roshelle!! You've gotta give it a try... I promise you, it's as easy as it looks! 😘
Thank you for doing this video. I haven’t steered yet but I’m getting closer.
It’s beautiful 🥰 thank you for sharing your process.
It looks so good! If I end up not liking the MKAL I’m repurposing the yarn to make one of these!
When hemming, it is easier to catch the needle into the fabric and then take the needle into the rolled hem
Yay! Really nice steek! 😁
This made steeling so much less terrifying!
Steeeek! You did show me it is doable! Thanks
Wow! I've never seen that done, thanks for sharing that with us. Cuz I did think that was such a scary thing to do..
Thanks so much for sharing. Love this tutorial ❤️
Hi Kristin. It looks gorgeous but did you remember the stitch marker on your left rib ? 👋😘😜
💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗SO STINKNG SIMPLE…THANK YOUUUU💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Merveilleux
totally random but I love your engagement ring. It's very calm and classy but still present!
Thank you so much, Shasha
Beautiful work Kristin thank you for sharing this steeking tutorial I may try it one day... Q. Is there a minimum amount of stitches that you would add to the steeking section for say a fingering weight cardigan? 🙋🏻♀️💖🧶
Hi Kristin - I'm going back and watching your videos since I just started this cardigan. You've inspired me to try to modify to steek it too! Do you have a video that shows how you added the button band??
Wooo! I love it!
Huh I had no idea this was a thing! though I'm still pretty much a newbie at knitting. Made my first cardigan this year. I think I'll be saving this vid, so I can try steeking next time I make a cardigan cause. I agree not a huge fan of purl stitches.
Thanks, Kristin, this was very inspiring--and your Bubble Cardigan is beautiful. I'm about to try my first steeking project, however, it is designed to be steeked--was it complicated figuring out how to change the pattern into knitting in the round? Or just knit away instead of back and forth?
The lengths knitters go to, just to avoid purling 🤣
If there's a will, there's a way! 🤣🤣
How come you didn’t steek all the way up? I’ve never done it before but am interested
I've really enjoyed this video, thank you for doing it. :-) I was wondering how do you know when to start the steek (join in the round) on the cardigan, when you are working top down? Is there a specific place?
Thanks, Despina. And great question! Deciding where to begin adding the steeking stitches to join work in the round comes down to good judgement/personal preference. I added steeking stitches after the armhole/neckline shaping was complete. I then bound them off when it was time to knit the lower edge ribbing. I probably could have maintained them during the ribbing, but figured I was OK knitting flat by that point. lol, I hope that helps! (note to self: make a tutorial on how to setup steeking stitches) 😄
Thank you 😊
It’s time 😱
Indeed! 💀✂️
Hi. I'm unable to figure out how to pickup the stitches for the buttonband. Can you help?
Where is your darning needle from? It looks unique which is a cool notion to have!
Hah, it's just a generic darning needle ... I forget where it came from though, I do have a special darning needle by Lesley Wind that I wish I used. This one was the first one I grabbed. lol
@@Voolenvine thanks! Lol I must have remembered it from another video and imposed the memory onto this video 😂
This makes me less apprehensive about steeking a superwash garment as I don't own a sewing machine.
will you be finding a new home for Judgy?
Brooklyn is her home! 😸 We've thought about taking her with us, but it would be unfair to take her away from the neighborhood she knows so well. I'm seriously going to miss her but she's a feral cat through and through... We'll be sure to let our homebuyers know about her 😉
