Three, four I need a silent, true way to admire Like you as a sunset and I as a wildfire And I can't let the day go I've locked up these words in fear that I'd say them wrong Is it love as a mountain, or love as a simple song? And the moment that the two meet Has now laid itself at your feet And love is not convenient It does not cease at your command You might take and leave it But love is all I am Love is all I am I need a boundless, soft way to commend Like you as a temper and I as its tender end And however long your fits last I will live within your shadow cast And love is still your stranger It does not respect how much you'll stand You might be love's reminder But love is all I am Love is all I am I need a graceful, proud way to let go To smile and accept the things that you don't know The losses and the gains blurred The weight of these as last words And love is not excitement It's not kissing or holding hands I'm not some assignment No, love is all I am Love is all I am Love is all I am
Jonathan Wilson at 00:43 mark.A fantastic musician in his own right.I recently discovered him by seeing him perform as Wilco's warm up act and I have been stumbling upon him ever since. It seems like every great folk act is linked with him.
obviously the juxtaposition is supposed to make you arrive at other conclusions about love -- for example, literally, the girl with the guy in black robes is a sacrifice, and certainly love can be a sacrifice, if it's true and not selfish. and the flipping back and forth between the clear shots of sweet love and grainy shots of being tied up could lead you to connect the beginnings of love with the underside of being "tied up" in it, "bound" to it -- just some ideas
I think a video that would show all the fluttery pretty stuff would be going against the message of the song. Love isn't all the pretty stuff. Love is hard and love is sacrifice. Love is putting up with all the uncomfortable feelings. The fluttery stuff is fleeting and if that's all you base your relationships on, it might be just as fleeting as those feelings. At the same time, true love is timeless because it endures.
I love the song, love the band.; video, not my fav. For such a great emotion and such wonderful lyrics, for me, something else would have been more appropriate. I, not being the artist, not the song sage, cannot deem someone else's vision as wrong.
Ya know, I really think that they have strong writing and musicianship skills and i think they will go far, but seeing this video scares me for them...I can't help thinking of the author J.D. Salinger, and how his book Catcher in the Rye showed up in strange places like John Lennon's murder, President Regan's attempted etc. I know art is supposed to make you want to react and to this point this works for me as I want to react by shutting it off. I think this was probably done in light heart-ed fun, and I believe in free artistic expression, but to me the video seemed far from the lyrics, (maybe I missed something). If it were me (and I in no way have the talent to do half this) I would have to keep an eye on the big picture and rationalize whether this kind of video really satisfies all of the goals I have set. Maybe this is why I may never accomplish or reach the level of Taylor and Co. But this video to me wrecks the good work put into this song and tarnish's my impression of the whole body of work...Too bad (for me at least) as I had found up to this point such strong lyrics, song craftsmanship and delivery. I still love the songs (I've heard) that they are doing now and will have to try and bury the memory of this video so that I can continue to enjoy
Denise you really missed the point....I have been around the block more than you know...Many times before MTV was ever thought of...It is not just kids and the uninitiated out and about you know...I just hope that it isn't to bad for you... or them...just a cautionary note for those that don't see ramifications for their actions in a world that is becoming more complex than some simple minds realize...(who would think that certain so called radicals would be doing what they do for such minor infractions as drawing an image in cartoon form). For me the music is very good, but there is good and not so good and I reserve the right to have my opinion...as you...I offered my opinion not to detract, but to offer some insight for future directions... what is done is done, I just think that with the talent shown there is an evident growth that need not be detracted from by miss steps and I look forward to much more great work by such talent as this.
GREAT song but the video ruins it for me. Most people aren't into sickening images accompanying a song that could be so meaningful. The pairing of the two is just a put off to me. Some people might be more appreciative of the artistic intentions here, but I think that most people just like to be reminded of the simple and the good and want music to remind them of that.
I agree, it was all going along nicely and then this disturbing, out of place bondage footage gets thrown in. Is this some wannabe LA film director's idea of being 'edgy'? Ruined the video for me.
had the privledge to see Dawes open for Mumford... i was captivated then and even more now... Thank Ya'll for so much wonderful music!
Three, four
I need a silent, true way to admire
Like you as a sunset and I as a wildfire
And I can't let the day go
I've locked up these words in fear that I'd say them wrong
Is it love as a mountain, or love as a simple song?
And the moment that the two meet
Has now laid itself at your feet
And love is not convenient
It does not cease at your command
You might take and leave it
But love is all I am
Love is all I am
I need a boundless, soft way to commend
Like you as a temper and I as its tender end
And however long your fits last
I will live within your shadow cast
And love is still your stranger
It does not respect how much you'll stand
You might be love's reminder
But love is all I am
Love is all I am
I need a graceful, proud way to let go
To smile and accept the things that you don't know
The losses and the gains blurred
The weight of these as last words
And love is not excitement
It's not kissing or holding hands
I'm not some assignment
No, love is all I am
Love is all I am
Love is all I am

This is probably the most rational youtube complaint I've ever read.
