My only sibling and brother died of suicide on January 11th of this year.
It has been devasting to my parents. However people have shown up en masse to support us.
I heard this song about two years ago. It was incredibly moving. However it has taken on New meaning in my life.
Thank you for sharing it with the world.
RIP Cory Matthew Lambert. Sept 25th, 1981 to January 11th, 2024.
    You will be greatly missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I took the liberty of looking up your brother's obituary. Sounds like he positively impacted a lot of lives and left the world a better place. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson: " ....to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. ". I am a survivor of suicide x4; I can't say I know how you feel, but I think I have a clue. Take care of yourself and your family, while you keep him in your heart. My condolences and best wishes to you.

The last verse reminded me of something I heard on the radio: "In my humdrum life, the daily battle hasn't been good versus evil. It's hardly so epic. Most days, my real battle is doing good versus doing nothing. ... I've come to believe that while I wait to make a grand heroic gesture, I should just stick to the small inconveniences that let me share in life's inevitable, occasional calamity.

I haven't considered suicide nearly as much as I'd prayed for immediate death in the height of my disabling chronic illnesses; but otherwise, I can relate.
Keep at the therapy, and at the fight in general. Silence the cautious urge not to let yourself get too happy. Stay open; and keep letting others in.
Every second we breathe is full of purpose already, but _especially_ when we make it so.
You are also not alone in this fight, no matter what it may feel like. Idk how the UA-cam DM system works now…but if you can, and you need to, feel free to reach out to me.

I once seriously considered suicide when I was 14. I never told anyone. I found an old gun under my Dad's dresser. I didn't even know how to load it. Or if it would even work. I opened up the case. I was on my knees looking at it. I just started crying uncontrollably and went to my room and crawled into my bed. My families house was 2 stories and my room was in the top corner. Everyone was downstairs getting ready for dinner and doing whatever.

I had heard this song probably 50 times, I loved the sound, but didn't really pay attention to the lyrics. Had it on one of my "Favorite" playlists on Spotify. I was dealing with a lot of emotional trauma, and was binge cleaning my basement when this song came on; and for whatever reason as soon as he said "Setting out to join a demographic" I realized what he was talking about. By the time the police officer asks what he is doing it for, I was literally on the ground completely releasing everything I was holding on to. I have never in my life felt so unbelievably vulnerable in my life. After listening to the whole song 5 or 6 times and allowing myself to really let the music speak, and really feel what was happening in the song, and in my life I felt lighter, cleansed almost. As an audiophile and songwriter I am very attuned to emotional energy in music. I just had never had a song impact me in that way.

I always liked the studio version of this song. The lyrics were always what got me but the song seemed dry and almost forced. This version is beautiful. No producers. No added musicians to play around, just lyrics, guitar, and emotion. Absolutely beautiful

can't remember when I first heard this song, it was the first time hearing a Dawes song. I do remember saying hmmm... that really spoke to me let's see what else they have, the second song was Way back home. These guys really know how to paint a picture with their song writing. I'm a now a big fan not to mention the harmony's and lead vocal and the easy chord progressions which are nice when you play a little guitar.

Heard this song on Lithium on SiriusXM the other day, what a find. Thanks to Tom Morello and his show for putting the spotlight on Dawes, someone I may not have found otherwise. And yes, in Malibu people can write great lyrics 😉

I saw him sing this at Beach Road Weekend on Martha's Vineyard this past weekend. He stops the heart. Then Bahamas got up there with him and I realized how lucky we are that they are around to speak to our hearts.

Oh, it's a little bit of everything,
    It's the mountains,
    It's the fog,
It's the news at six o'clock,
It's the death of my first dog,
It's the angels up above me,
It's the song that they don't sing,
It's a little bit of everything."

Had the great pleasure and honour to meet these boys in Manchester, UK this year. Great, humble approachable lads, as well as being one the most amazing current bands in the world today. This song is perfect! It reminds me a little of These Days by Jackson Browne, which ain't a bad thing. Can't wait for the album!
