Kit was great, easy install. No resolution on the Android auto or apple iPlay cutting off after a few minutes. Advice was "use a shorter cord". That extended the time from roughly 10 minutes, out to around 45 (with a 6" cord). I'm cutting down the USB cable to just enough length to reach into the glove box - will follow up with results (after the snow melts). A lot of dancing around the AX5000 not being marine grade "but we haven't noticed any issues" - I had minor moisture showing in the display after the one time I got caught in the rain, but fortunately no operating issues and it dried back out. - And just now, found out they are offering the weather proof AX7000. 😠
I was wondering if you could tell me if Is this radio water PROOF or water RESISTANT? and,,, would you happen to know if the install is about the same for an 18 Road Glide (ultra) ?
I purchased this unit! does the auto illumination dim functional? I have a 2015 street glide. Mine doesnt work and the screen blinds me at night and is too dim during the day if I dont manually change it. Please help
Thank you for the compliment. I would be very careful buying off of Ebay. Also if you buy it from ebay the unit will most likely not come with the required mounting brackets and wiring harness.
Fat Head Cycles your correct. I love the idea of buying it ready to go. I’m really on the fence since i have a limited UG. I prefer the gps Waze then Harley’s. What about adjusting the rear speakers and CB and options that are specific to the bike?
One thing about the people with the specials tho with an aftermarket sound system, such as the rockford system, this will give them better control of the eq and better sound quality because of the stock head unit flash required to get the "flat eq" to work with aftermarket systems. If you have the rockford rear and front kit, this kit should be plug and play with the rockford kit as well, and give you better control of the eq. Am I mistaken on those assumptions?
want to install it on my RG 2017. How can I avoid glass reflections, especially when I use Apple Play. A friend of mine installed it 10 days ago, the radio is simply perfect, but visibility is limited by the reflection of light. It seems that he tried to install a glossy glass, but due to the low light emitted by Sony, the result was not so effective. Any suggestions ?
Awesome install! Very resourceful video you've posted here. Can i use this set up on my 2016 Street Glide FLHX? I just have the stock 4.3 radio but plan on upgrading speaker, head unit and Amp. Whats your recommendation?
You can definitely use this radio on your bike. It would be an amazing upgrade. It will also support any future growth that you might be considering with aftermarket amps and speakers. Give us a call at 301-825-9007 to discuss your options.
The unit is not water proof but we've had people ride through big rain storms and report no issues and when washing the bike we always recommend no direct streams of water toward the unit - even if it was marine grade. Regarding the SENA device - this unit only receives Bluetooth signal - it isn't able to send Bluetooth signal - so the SENA device is not compatible.
I think the only issue for me is that you cannot wash your bike with water & soap like you can with the Harley units. The Sony unit is not marine grade as far as I know? Anyone have feedback on this??
Sonic electronics ... I was advised that if the bike was started before all electronics reconnected I would need to plug up the factory radio again and redo the install. Does that sound correct?
Burna WOS that used to be correct. But 6 months ago we worked with Metra to fix those issues. Send me an email at info@fatheadcycles.com and I will email you the solution to your problem!
You used the handlebar controls to navigate until you got into the Apple car play menu. Is that a touchscreen only control or does the handlebar controls work within the CarPlay feature? If so, how well do the controls navigate within the navigation app? Thanks for a great video!
Unfortunately the throttle side handlebar controls do not work with the apple maps...IE: move around the map screen icons like zoom or anything (Nor do I believe it will with Google maps or Waze in ios12 when it releases) The throttle side joystick mimics the clutch side. it does not have any other functions. Thats the only drawback I see. I liked to use it in the HD navigation screen to zoom and do different things. My guess is Car Play is it's own function that works with the touch screen and the base radio is only controlled by the handlebar controls. Not a deal breaker though. I love this unit and Fathead Cycles was awesome to deal with. The unit arrived already put in the mounting kit with the harness professionally wired and fabric taped and plugged into the radio! Great service. One more thing...I doubt with Google Maps or Waze (Or any other 3rd party Navigation released with iOS 12) you will need a joystick to move around within the app. They will blow away the HD navigation program hands down. I think those controls were needed to help with the shortcomings of the HD nav.
@@jeffsmith2517 you say that the throttle side joystick mimics the clutch side joystick? So another words both sides do the same thing... only adjust volume and channels? If this is true then that's a really big drawback to me because I have a Road Glide and the screen is fairly far away to be using the touch screen and I strictly only use the handlebar controls to navigate my system while moving. I just cannot stand the Harley Maps, it's just junk and almost worthless. I understand not being able to use the joystick to navigate Android auto or carplay but I would like to at least be able to navigate the main screens on head unit itself with the joystick on the throttle side like you can on the stock Harley head unit. I'm guessing this is a limitation of the Sony head unit not supporting this type of input.
I've been thinking about upgrading the base stereo unit on my 2015 Ultra Classic Low. This video did it for me, thank you so much! I will be purchasing one in the near future. Great Videos!!! PS: I can still make phone calls and receive calls through my Sena headset, through my Iphone, correct?
hi. thanks for the tutorial. i have a street glide special. from ur comments at the end, whether its worth it? i gather it works? i think its worth it. my bike had to be taken to dealer a few years ago to have the head unit programmed for boom audio 2. this was disappointing. i had did all the installation. but had to pay for that . this would of been something i would of went for. and would still consider if i have any future problems. i take it this unit doesnt have nav? and what about the info button on the bar controls, the one that will direct u to the ambient temp, oil pressure and let u know if etims is active or enabled, is the feature lost with a new head unit?? thanks
Got a 2017 special and this head unit blows the stock head unit out of the water. You cant control your music apps with the stock unit where you can directly see what is on your phone with this unit. The only problem I have is it is very hard to see on sunny days. It was designed to be inside an automobile so the brightness is not bright enough.
I wish this guy was my friend it’s always good to have a friend like that around haha
Got one of these kits from you and just put it in yesterday. Very satisfied, thanks👍
Thank you very much for the feed back. Means the world to us!
Just got mine yesterday cant wait to install

What happens when caught in a downpour??
You are a very talented technician/mechanic! Do you have a similar video for installing this radio into a '16 Road Glide fairing?
Installed mine and its pretty easy thanks for video didnt run USBs yet not sure how to take out the old one
What if I have a street glide special and it already integrated gps how will I be able to get that to work on the Sony xav-ax7000
What about the oil pressure gauge and the other features that you can turn on and off are those capabilities still intact with this swap out
Glad I found the video before I started ordering shit.. thanks man
The ax5000 comes with 2 usb cords. What do you have to do to get both in the glove box? thanks
Drill a second hole

Excellent video. Thank you so much for making this. $360 on eBay brand new. Considering one for my ultra limited just for the CarPlay.

If I put in this new radio do I have to upgrade my speakers from factor to aftermarket speakers?
Does the HD 7 Pin work with this? and by extension, the Sena Freewire?
The 7 pin connector is no longer retained. We have not done any research with the Sena.
@@FatHeadCycles thank you for the reply. The Freewire works off of the 7 pin.
So I have this kit I got from you it works great but the axxess unit looses memory without battery power what’s the easiest way to reprogram
I have a 2014 Electra glide police model can I use this ?
Good thorough video 👍🏻

You are 100% right on!
Do you know if this radio unit is water resistant?
We have had no issues with this unit getting wet.
It is not water resistant. Screen of mine turned off after some rain got on it. The view came back after it dried out though.
Mine cut out in the rain, hoping when it dries out it will be good to go 😰
How do you secure the USB cables?
I have this setup on my 2016 street glide special. Is anyone else having and unreliable usb connection for the android auto?
get a short usb cord... the unit don't like long cords
Do you have a setup for the new 2019 Electra Glide Standard?
It is coming very soon. Will be on the website and of course we will shoot a video of the entire install!
@@FatHeadCycles Following, nobody seems to have on yet.

Can I get 1 for my 2013 road glide ultra
Wonderful video; does it also work on CVO-Models e.G. FLHXSE 2015
How do you type in the unlock code for the key fob using aftermarket Sony deck
The same way that you do it with the factory head unit. The pin is displayed at the bottom of the speedometer. Thank you for watching!
Is that right
Will this work on a 2017 Road glide standard and not have to be flashed through Harley-Davidson
Yes sir. Drops right in. No flashing needed!
Can I use my voice command while using my headset.
Awesome Video, have you done this on an Indian Chieftain?
Excellent video👍🏿👍🏿
I have the Boom Audio Stage 2 upgrade. Can I still retain that if I swap to this radio?
yes, it won't make a difference what factory system you have. The Integration harness when installing allows everything to work. All plug and play.

Marty Morgan look up a shimmy. He makes waterproof covers.
I have a battery drain after this install. Can u offer a suggestion of why?
Burna WOS your 95-9700 module is not going to sleep causing the battery drain. Where did you buy your head unit/install kit from?

does this come with nav?
The nav is handled through your smart phone via either Apple Car play or Android Auto.
How does a sena 10c work with it while using the phone?
