I literally just bought this from Crutchfield and installed it myself today. LOVE, LOVE LOVE IT! Touch screen features are fast and responsive, bluetooth synced up perfectly, sound is great for both phone and music audio. I will install a backup camera later on. But I can't say enough good things about this radio and Crutchfield. I didn't have to call them for help since install was easy, too.
@@JakeSimsCanmore I did not hook up a sub. I'm just powering my stock speakers with it. I think there's another version of it that allowed you to power more and do more with the audio. It costs more. But if you are going to rely on the bluetooth i would reconsider it. Like my other reply says, the unit is not as good once you drive near other people with bluetooth or when you drive into town.
I am personally very happy that you enjoyed our content and thank you for the kind words!🥰 I appreciate you and the positivity, and we are always here to help!
Both provide reliable connections between your phone and the receiver. A wired USB connection will typically give you better sound quality and charge your smartphone while connected. A Bluetooth connection to wirelessly stream music will not charge your phone and will deplete the phone's battery until you connect it to a USB input for charging.
Hello everyone, I have the XAV-3200 and the truth is that it works very well, the only drawback is the illumination of the screen, during the day it is acceptable, it has to hit direct sunlight to make it difficult to see, but in at night, with the lighting to a minimum, for me it is very bright and annoying when driving, especially if you are using waze or maps, can the night lighting be further decreased in this new model? Thank you very much in advance, regards.
Hi Manuel. Glad to hear you're enjoying your Sony radio overall. You can change the brightness of the display via the menu under "Visual Settings". There are three dimmer modes: Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), or On (display is always dimmed), or Off (normal brightness). You can adjust the dimmer level from -5 to +5.
Nah, unless your iPhone is jailbroken or whatever. But I literally just had this installed today but thinking of exchanging it. Can’t screen mirror either, not even with an android. Just your basic CarPlay/android auto
This doesn't surprise me as the screen mirroring never worked on my current system. It was always buggy and even when I got a compatible phone, still didn't cooperate. Not surprised they didn't keep that function
My current Sony xav DVD deck has fun visualizers I can choose from that display on the home screen. Do these new decks keep that, or are they all plain now?
The specific feature you mention is not available on the Sony XAV-AX4000. You can customize the touchscreen interface's wallpaper (background) to suit your car interior or personal taste. You can choose between four presets (Solid Black / Cherry Wood / Saddle Leather / Blue Canvas) or two manual wallpaper color settings.
Unfortunately, we don't have a video available for installing this stereo in a Jeep Renegade, but we'll be glad to make sure this Sony receiver will work well in your Jeep. What year is your Renegade? Did it come equipped with factory navigation? How many factory speakers does it have?
The Sony XAV-AX4000 does not have an HD radio tuner. You cannot turn the screen completely off but do have brightness adjustments. To change the brightness of the display you can set the Sony receiver to one of two dimmer modes; Dimmer Auto (dims the display automatically when you turn your vehicle's lights on), or Dimmer On (display always dim). You can adjust the dimmer level from -5 to +5.
For the steering wheel control if you have it setup for to change Source, does it go through every source you have or only the ones you have selected at the bottom?

Hi Brandon, the Sony's XAV-AX4000 receiver does require a steering wheel control interface as well to integrate with factory steering wheel audio controls. What year is your Jeep?
would this be compatible with Toyota Lamd Cruiser Prado(120) - 2008? The climate control is built into the screen, I am wondering if this guy can control AC as well?
For U.S. spec 2008 Land Cruisers we don't recommend replacing the factory radio because no dash kit is available at this time. Usually installing a Maestro interface and iDatalink Maestro compatible radio like the Sony XAV-AX4000 is the key to keeping climate controls and other factory settings, but those retained features are not supported when installed in your Land Cruiser.
It sure can fit into your BRZ and look like it belongs there. We have a mounting kit and wiring interfaces to help with the installation too. Our online vehicle fit guide can help ensure you get all the parts needed to install it: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/car/carselector.aspx
thanks for the video, it very helpful i am buying one soon , also considering to buy a backup camera install it together, do you know if this unit support 1080P back up camera input or not?
The sound quality from the two units is comparable. The 6000 does add the 5V preouts which could be a plus if you are planning to connect aftermarket amps.
Can you do a review for XAV AX6000 also. I know that they’re basically the same but i’m strongly considering getting that radio for my car but there’s not a lot of review videos about it. i would greatly appreciate it🙏🏾
We haven't published a video on here about it, but we do have a video discussing the XAV-AX600 on our web page for it: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/p_158XAV6000/item.html
XAV-AX6000 Capacitive anti-glare touch screen, 5 bolt pre-outs, wireless AA and CP, USB-C and HDMI, excellent unit. I have one installed in my Subaru Crosstrek.
@@crutchfield came with the standard 5 in the front and back seats. I can send a pic of my dashboard to confirm. I just don’t want to purchase this item if it only fits in double din yk.
It's an easy fit. From there, it's just a matter of the wiring you need to match the car. Did it come with a factory navigation system? Are there steering wheel controls for the factory radio that you want to maintain?
Hi César, we're glad to check. Did your car come with the 3", 5", or 8.4" LCD radio? Did it come with a factory Alpine system? If not, how many factory speakers did it come with?
Hi My media receiver is Sony XAV AX4000 55X4 rms Speaker are Audison, prima apk 6.5 70 rms and apk 165 100w Or Hertz, dieci dcx 165.3 60 rms dpk 165.3 80 rms Should I use amplifier ? if necessary which one is better? Pioneer, DEQ-S1000A Sony, XMS400D Vibe, powerbox 65.4
The Sony XAV AX4000 has a fantastic sound quality and provides 20-watts RMS per channel. Both the Audison and Hertz speakers are sensitive enough to operate well on the radio's power. Boosting power to 45-watts RMS using the Sony XMS400D amplifier would provide better performance. I am partial to Hertz as I have the Hertz Dieci speakers in my wife's car, they sound crisp and detailed and would really perform well using the Sony radio/Sony amplifier combo.
@@crutchfield thank you so much for the recommendation One more question I have this amplifier D class VIBE bowerbox 65x4 (mounted behind the dashboard) Do you recommend me to use it? Or is it better to use it without an amplifier? Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷
The Vibe Powerbox is a micro amplifier similar to the Sony and Pioneer, delivering 65-watts x 4-channels as mentioned above. If you have it installed already and it is in good working order, I see no reason not to use it with the Sony XAV-AX4000 radio.
That depends on the vehicle and if parts exist for it to keep the factory backup camera. We can check yours. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?

I have a 2008 Mazda5 and I'd like to keep my factory DVD player functional or at the very least I still want to be able to use the screen in the back even without DVDs. is there a way to plug in a firestick or a roku or even just an HDMI input so I don't just have a useless screen weighting the car down and looking stupid.
We have not found a way to retain the use of the factory installed screens for the rear seat entertainment system when installing an aftermarket receiver. Wish we had different news for you about those screens.
It is an overhead monitor that folds down, right? There are aftermarket overhead monitors that can be custom installed in place of the stock monitor. These will have A/V inputs including an HDMI that can be used to connect a Firestick or Roku streamer. @@crutchfield Thank you for that. I got the unit installed today, but have another issue now. The USB cable that Sony provides is a USB Type C. Typically, Pioneers and Alpines use the standard USB 3.0 connectors for playback of movies and music videos. I bought an adapter to connect the USB Type C to the USB 3.0, but the Sony won't read it. It says "No playable content found". Is there a workaround for this? Thanks!

The Sony XAV-AX4000 will work with the iDatalink Connec KIT-MUS1 kit. Do you have the coupe or convertible? Did your car come with the factory Shaker or Shaker Pro system? Did it come with factory nav?
No, but it can be a preamp itself. It has 5 preamp outputs. One for each audio channel: Front and rear left and right along with one subwoofer preamp output.
This one uses a resistive touchscreen while the AX6000 uses a capacitive touchscreen (best for minimizing glare). This one has a 1 year warranty while the AX6000 has a 3 year warranty. The preamp outputs are stronger on the AX6000 for better sound when using external amps. Also, the AX6000 has a micro-HDMI input (no HDMI input on this one) that can be used to mirror smartphones so they can play videos while parked.
It can be installed into all the versions of the 2008 A3 except the one that comes with the Concert sound system and a 2" tall radio. There is not enough room in that layout for it. If you the other versions, then you will want to check out our vehicle fit guide to get help choosing the correct installation parts: www.crutchfield.com/I-rYALc227/car/carselector.aspx

It sure can fit into your BRZ and look like it belongs there. We have a mounting kit and wiring interfaces to help with the installation too. Our online vehicle fit guide can help ensure you get all the parts needed to install it:

thanks for the video, it very helpful i am buying one soon , also considering to buy a backup camera install it together, do you know if this unit support 1080P back up camera input or not?
It has a resolution of 800 RGB x 480 (1,152,000 pixels).
is there any noticeable difference in sound quality with this unit compared to the AX6000 model?
The sound quality from the two units is comparable. The 6000 does add the 5V preouts which could be a plus if you are planning to connect aftermarket amps.
Does it mean that if you use the ax4000 with aftermarket amps it won't work well what are the drawbacks considering the 2v preouts?
In general, a higher preamp voltage can provide even better signal.
@@crutchfield Thank you
Can you adjust the screen position? Fornmy application i would need yhe screen moved up for the rrar chassis yo be centred
Hi Aval, are you needing a radio that lets you adjust the monitor up or down?
@@crutchfield yes I am.
We do have better options for that. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle? What other features do you need?
Can you do a review for XAV AX6000 also. I know that they’re basically the same but i’m strongly considering getting that radio for my car but there’s not a lot of review videos about it. i would greatly appreciate it🙏🏾
We haven't published a video on here about it, but we do have a video discussing the XAV-AX600 on our web page for it:

XAV-AX6000 Capacitive anti-glare touch screen, 5 bolt pre-outs, wireless AA and CP, USB-C and HDMI, excellent unit. I have one installed in my Subaru Crosstrek.
Nice choice! What do you like most about it so far?
I have a 2005 Lincoln town car, would this work? I’ve heard about sony products only being able to work for double dins.
It's an easy fit. Did your car come with factory navigation? How many factory speakers did it come with?
@@crutchfield came with the standard 5 in the front and back seats. I can send a pic of my dashboard to confirm. I just don’t want to purchase this item if it only fits in double din yk.
It's an easy fit. From there, it's just a matter of the wiring you need to match the car. Did it come with a factory navigation system? Are there steering wheel controls for the factory radio that you want to maintain?
How do I see the ac control function on my xav ax4000?
Hi Edwin, what model vehicle did you install the Sony's XAV-AX4000 into?
Would it fit a 2016 Chrysler 200s?
Hi César, we're glad to check. Did your car come with the 3", 5", or 8.4" LCD radio? Did it come with a factory Alpine system? If not, how many factory speakers did it come with?
Hi can you use Apple CarPlay via USB cable? I prefer wired over wireless. Thanks
If you prefer wired, there's another deck in Sony's lineup that's just wired. No wireless.
This receiver does not support wired Apple CarPlay. It only supports the wired version. Do you both options (both wireless and wired) for CarPlay?
Now I’m confused. It does not support wired… it only supports the wired version?
Oops! Sorry about that. We meant to say it only support wireless CarPlay.
Hi
My media receiver is
Sony XAV AX4000 55X4 rms Speaker are
Audison, prima apk 6.5 70 rms and apk 165 100w
Or
Hertz, dieci dcx 165.3 60 rms dpk 165.3 80 rms
Should I use amplifier ?
if necessary
which one is better?
Pioneer, DEQ-S1000A
Sony, XMS400D
Vibe, powerbox 65.4
The Sony XAV AX4000 has a fantastic sound quality and provides 20-watts RMS per channel. Both the Audison and Hertz speakers are sensitive enough to operate well on the radio's power. Boosting power to 45-watts RMS using the Sony XMS400D amplifier would provide better performance. I am partial to Hertz as I have the Hertz Dieci speakers in my wife's car, they sound crisp and detailed and would really perform well using the Sony radio/Sony amplifier combo.
@@crutchfield thank you so much for the recommendation
One more question
I have this amplifier D class VIBE bowerbox 65x4 (mounted behind the dashboard)
Do you recommend me to use it?
Or is it better to use it without an amplifier?
Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷
The Vibe Powerbox is a micro amplifier similar to the Sony and Pioneer, delivering 65-watts x 4-channels as mentioned above. If you have it installed already and it is in good working order, I see no reason not to use it with the Sony XAV-AX4000 radio.
If you car already has a factory backup camera installed, will it become incompatible with this stereo?
That depends on the vehicle and if parts exist for it to keep the factory backup camera. We can check yours. What is the year, make, and model of your vehicle?
@@crutchfield 2013 GMC Acadia SLE

Does it have a remote control or one compatible with it
It's compatible with Sony's optional RM-X400 IR remote control, but unfortunately we don't currently carry that remote.

@@crutchfield that sucks. it's a really cool feature. would it be possible to swap it out for an aftermarket screen instead?
It is an overhead monitor that folds down, right? There are aftermarket overhead monitors that can be custom installed in place of the stock monitor. These will have A/V inputs including an HDMI that can be used to connect a Firestick or Roku streamer. Here are the models we offer:

Hi is there a way eliminate the clock completely once you upload a JPEG? I want to make sure it's not something where like the clock will still be showing over my JPEG. Thanks.
Sony lists no option to disable the clock.
Thanks!
The USB-C port supports audio files only. What source are you trying to connect?
@@crutchfield according to the Sony owners manual, it DOES playback most video formats MP4, AVI etc, but mine didn’t. I ditched it for a Pioneer.

would this fit 2014 mustang with the idatalink maestro and dash-mus1 kit?
The Sony XAV-AX4000 will work with the iDatalink Connec KIT-MUS1 kit. Do you have the coupe or convertible? Did your car come with the factory Shaker or Shaker Pro system? Did it come with factory nav?
@@crutchfield Its the coupe and its the factory system with sync and no navigation
Thanks, Federico. Did the car come with a factory Shaker or Shaker Pro audio system?
Can I put a preamp on this unit?
No, but it can be a preamp itself. It has 5 preamp outputs. One for each audio channel: Front and rear left and right along with one subwoofer preamp output.
What’s the difference between this and the 6000? Thx!
@@crutchfield great info! Thanks!

Why is the volume on this unit so low when set to max (50)
HI Tim sounds like it's likely a wiring or integration issue. What is your exact vehicle setup?
