I’m 5’7 and bought a 21” tt since I’m new to this hobby. I’m looking into downsizing my frame to a 20.75
I enjoy the 21” since I got used to it but I’m starting to get into more street and less skate park ramps so it feel a little harder to do stuff

My only question on size would have to be would it make sense to bump up a quarter inch top tube length if im building a trails and dirt specific bike or stay the same length top tube and run a larger fork offset and stem length to get that control? Otherwise your videos have been really helpful once I got back into riding. Appreciate any input people have.

im 6" and im getting a fly sierra in 21.4"tt. i ride mostly transition and im tall so i like having a bunch of room up front so i run my bars forward on my current 21" setup. it feels better but it makes my steering all wack. the sierra has a shorter back end than my current frame but a longer top tube, so it'll allow me to have almost the same wheelbase as my current setup but i can have more room up front without having my bars chicago (i keep kneeing my bars and stem on my 21" and it sucks) plus a shorter back end with a longer TT is always gonna feel better than a long back end with short TT when youre a tall guy. also having a longer frame makes me look less stupid on the bike when you're a tall dude because thats when you really start looking like you're on a kids bike

I'm pretty sure the top tube length on my old 1986 GT pro world tour is 18.5" I think most of the bikes were around that too. Maybe a quarter inch more for the Haro etc. So there must be something more to this? Tall kids and pros were riding these bikes in the 80s/90s. Is there something more to the geometry? Is it just because they used laid back seat posts and angled the handlebars forward a bit to give them more length? I'm curious now because from your video they should have had at least a 20.25 to 20.5 to suit most riders.

What’s up Doug I’m 5’8” and currently on a cult devotion . I’m about to buy a new frame , I’m looking at the bsd grime . I’m having trouble deciding on 20.6 or 20.8 TT . Spending most my time at the skatepark and some street . Any thoughts would be very appreciated .

@@lolstein137 yeah that's fair. i'm not sure if the top tube length and the science behind it is different with dirt jumper frames. since dj's are bigger bikes than bmx i would recommend downsizing just a tad if you're riding street but you don't have to if you already got a new frame. you'll just get used to the longer TT so you should be fine
