  • Sometimes you get new lifters and you can't compress the plunger because they are stuck. Follow along as I show you what I do to fix it!

    I'm right there with ya on the NOS lifters. I bought a set of Crower cam saver lifters on sale to accumulate parts for a new engine for my truck and they were not ground correctly so I sent them back. I wound up with two sets of 8 NOS Ford lifters. One set has a 1986 date on the box, the other set 2006. I checked them all and they are all ground correctly. A few of the newer ones have a couple minor dings in the lifter face probably from banging around in the box but you can't really feel them, I suppose those will be ok. They are hard as a rock testing with a file on the corner.
    One thing I did find interesting about the 1986 set is the lifter face almost looks like it was polished after grinding then parkerized, the metal is a dark greenish brown color on the lifter face. The newer ones you can see the grinding marks like anything you buy today. I tell ya, the shit you gotta go through to get something decent anymore is ridiculous.

      The ones that are dark on the bottom, you think they are Delphi made lifters? Delphi was known to have the bottom of their lifters be real dark because the bottom of the lifter was an actual hardened insert.

      @@BlackLabGarage Not sure, it's possible I suppose. They are definitely better made than the newer set if I'm being honest and want another set of those of I can get them. They're the D9HZ-6500-A lifters.

    I just came across this video trying to confirm I'm not losing my mind. I have TWELVE out of 16 brand-new Summit lifters that are stuck but I'm past the return window. I decided if I have to do this, I can't trust them. Picking up a set of Comp Cams Pro Magnum instead. I sure hope they're better!

    How would you do this if they are installed without removing them?

    • @BlackLabGarage
      @BlackLabGarage  4 місяці тому +1

      Ford used to have a tool for doing that. If you can't find one they are easy enough to make. They just slip onto the rocker arm and and push back on it. It allows you to compress the lifter by leveraging the back of the rocker arm down on the push rod which then compresses the plunger in the lifter.

      @@BlackLabGarage thanks I'll look for the tool, my instinct is to hit it with a hammer but I don't want to dent or mar the rollers or cam

    Dont use Lifters without Internal Inspection and cleaning....lubricate lifter with engine oil

      I agree. The only thing I won't do is presoak the lifters because it makes it harder to adjust the preload properly and I prelube my engines before I crank them anyway.
