Hey Scotty what website do you recommend for looking up compatibility with recycled parts in or general. I think you'd have some decent recommendations.
Range Rovers are pretty bad but I wouldn't say the worst... Tesla Model X tops many list for the worst SUV, closely followed by Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Funny how American cars top the list and make Range Rovers look positively reliable... PS don't buy any of these including the Ranger Rover even though it is a lot more reliable than the others.
🤣🤣🤣 Expensive chairs with wheels, huh? 🤣🤣 I got one in the driveway now that has BARELY seen the roadways because it has that "3 Amigos" lights coming on.
I have a 2017. Got it at 18k used during the pandemic. At 25K miles, the front brakes went out and all tires were bald. At 30k miles the rear brakes went out. At 45k miles the Down pipe on the turbo cracked, blowing exhaust fumes into the cabin. (Warranty replaced within 50k. Phew, got lucky) I took the ride into a machine car wash, and the side panels broke off! It was a plastic two piece melted together. At 60k miles, I can hear the CV axle making noise. At 70k miles, I have oil being pushed back into the turbo. Over time, if you don’t spray down the back engine compartment from the car wash, you will smell burnt oil inside the cabin. I also replaced the rear brakes again. Now at 85k miles and owned the car for 2 years, I have yet to replace the CV axle and now when driving above 30mph, I hear a LOUD buzzing/vibration noise. Land Rover sucks and I am stuck with this POS.
Make a couple videos and put them on UA-cam with a clever channel name. The name will get better traction and then tell Scotty about it and you’ll get more views. Just a middle finger to them lol
My friend Roy bought one of these. Between the original cost of the vehicle and repairs after the warranty ran out, it ended up costing him more than his house. He finally sold it and bought a Lexus RX 350. He’s smiling again!
Scotty, you're an internet treasure! You really are. You're here to give free car advice to rich and poor alike. You've saved us all so much money!!!!!!! Voluntarily giving up your own personal time when you don't have to.... for strangers no less. You're a real Saint for doing that! We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Giving up his personal time? Have you been living in a closet? Do you understand how UA-cam can work for some people? Scotty has literally made a *million dollars* using UA-cam. He has admitted that in one of his videos. By the way, the rich don't care about car advise. Da got da money!
Yeah… he’s definitely raking in the big bucks from YT. Doesn’t take away from the information/entertainment value of his videos at all, btw. But it’s far from “giving up your personal time” lol
Yes,Scotty is a great example of the saying “You reap what you sow”. He gives truthful honest advice and is rewarded accordingly with millions of subscribers.
I own 3 range rovers and am a professional mechanic. They are actually easier to work on than my 80s chevys and surprisingly stronger built If you dont have the mental capacity to understand them maby you shouldn't work on them. Or atleast purchase alldata. These cars get a bad name from shadetree mechanics that only understand carburetors and cant fathom why every new car doesnt have one
@antuandunte1238 all year models are fine. If you get 2014 and up wich if i remember correctly is L405 you need to do a coolant pipe upgrade to aluminum cost about 50 bucks. Anything older than that just need to change your oil regularly. Do the timing chains over 100k miles on any new car not just rovers it only takes 4 hours. Put a lower thermostat if you can too all new cars run too hot from factory
I have owned 4 rovers, a 2005 Discovery, 2008 LR3, 2012 LR4 and still own a 2013 Range Rover Sport HSE, and no problems with any of them after putting 70,000 plus miles on each of them.
Had a beautiful Rover that NEVER stayed out of the shop more than a month. I learned the bus routes well before it caught on fire... luckily I survived.
I never owned a Range Rover but I did own a 2000 Land Rover for nearly 19 years. In that time the only major repair was when the head gasket blew and I didn't know it until the engine started to run awful. I bought a warranty as well and that payed for the repair. I blame myself for not getting the engine serviced regularly. Maybe would have been caught early and not been a major repair. I do miss it.
I had a 1999 Discovery Series 1 w a huge solid steel brush guard and rear light guards, huge winch, thing was a monster. I bought it when I moved to Denver when my girlfriend's Jeep Grand Cherokee started having transmission and rear diff problems. I got stuck trying to turn around on a secluded private mountain property - it turned out to be some cultish church - and had to winch to avoid going into a crevasse. Six people from the cult (I don't know what else to call them, they wore these weird robes and slippers even in the freezing Denver snow storms) came out and helped me, and after we finished, they told me to go away and never come back again. But yeah in Denver and other mountainous areas the discoverys were (still are?) almost mandatory. Lots of people drove them out there and they did have scratches , brush guards, lift kits etc
@@leon_De_Grelle Had an '11 RR sport. No issues whatsoever the time I owned it....well apart from the fuel cost from UK forecourts. Amazing to drive and a pleasure to be in.
Seems to be a Freelander 1 with a petrol engine 🤔 It has the K-Series engine. It is a compact, light engine, but its head gasket is extremely weak and tends to blow! I have a 96 Rover 416Si with that engine. According to a garage from the pre-owners, the head gasket aleeady has been replaced, around 12 years ago...
my dad got rid of his used Range Rover (begged him not to buy one!) because it cost too much to keep getting it fixed. it was so bad he got a used nissan (I also told him not to buy that either!) but he's happy with that 😛
If it's 90's Nissan actually made in Japan it's not too bad I think. My 200sx I once had had a slight design flaw with the exhaust manifold / bolts but other than that very nice toy to play with. As I understand modern Nissans won't last as long as Nissan Sunny models way back. 300 thousand kilometres no problem without big engine overhauls.
I drove a 2009 Range Rover back in 2018. It had 75,000 miles. Most of the electronics did not work, the air ride was flat and would not air up, the engine sounded like it was coming apart. But it drove nice and still had plenty of power left.
I own the same gen range rover in 2022 and Im pretty happy with it. not excusing how much it costs me to bring it into the shop. My is in pretty awesome condiion.
We had a work one like that. Once someone stated looking in to it properly it has so many issues I think it ended up being scrapped. It also leaked water in to the cabin and parts were flooded. There were electrical parts literally under water.
We recently dismantled a 2014 Range Rover evoque at the breaks where i work. I was amazed how much of it is made by Ford. The engine, all the accessories and ECUs. Makes me wonder if you would be better buying the parts from Ford?
I'm an elec. tech. Usually when you have dozens of codes like that it's communications issues. It's not actually what the codes say. Perhaps one of the many computers is bad. Or a communication cable. I've seen these many times. I work on industrial machinery. Some of our machinery have many machines combined for one operation. If any one of those machines' computers are bad or even if you turn on the machinery in the incorrect order, you get a screen with dozens of fault codes. One bad communication cable will throw many faults.
I loved driving my Land Rover Discovery Sport. But, when you spend most of your time out in the middle of nowhere, it’s not a good vehicle to have. I only kept mine for 8 months.
Here in UK Landies and Rangies are one of the most efficient ways ever devised of separating the image conscious middle classes who know nothing about cars from their money. It’s all premium branding on dubious substance. There’s a reason why our farmers drive around in Mitzi L200s, Ford Rangers and Toyota Hilux or Landcruisers.
Totally agree with Scotty’s analysis of these Range/Land Rovers. Every owner I’ve known- family, neighbors, coworkers- ALL of them had constant problems with these cars. The used market says it all- they are among the worst resale values in the industry. But they’re beautiful inside!
I have owned 4 Landrovers / Range Rovers over the last 25 years. A Disco, Range Rover Sport, LR3 and currently own a 2016 LR4 HSE. If you follow the Maintenance schedule, they are very reliable. The problem is most people do the Maintenance on the cheap. You will have problems. Are they fairly expensive to maintain correctly? Yes. They are not a car for every one. But the driving experience is special. I put 183,000 miles on my LR3 an I currently have 52,000 on my 2016 LR4 HSE. Runs like a dream. Th LR-4 HSE is the best series Landrover ever produced. Go anywhere under the worst conditions and get you to your destination in style, comfort and safely. I live New England and in winter the weather can be brutal. Piece of cake in a Land Rover.
Depends on the mileage and maintenance record. That is always the first two things you look at. You also must find a good mechanic who can take care of basic maintenance in the future.
Kim, First find a good mechanic that knows how to work on Land Rovers. Change the oil every 5 to 6000 miles, no matter what the manual says. This is crucial and it’s worth the extra money. Follow the manual maintenance guide religiously. The 2016 LR four series is the best Land Rover series ever made in my opinion. If you’re looking at one with over 60,000 miles make sure mechanic goes over it before you buy it. I follow the maintenance manual and you’ll save yourself a lot of heartache. Good luck.
I drive uber in my 2012 hse sport lux and its almost 200k miles, thing runs like a baby and only had a serpentine belt issue. Appart from that i give it seafoam and lots of love
all those historic codes are likely due to a low battery. Once they get depleted or start to fail the ECMs start throwing codes. Put in a new battery, clear the codes, and you're usually good to go.
Spot on! It's caused by the lower voltage. Just change the battery and problem solved - it's a 2013 car. I've go a 10 year old Evoque and it has never broken down on me once.
For those who are considering a RR. Coming up on 8 years ago I bought a 2007 RR HSE 4.4L. Other than brakes , oil and tires, ive had the heater core go and this past weekend installed new cats. Thats it. I paid $9800 for it w/77K original miles. It now has 101,200ish.. I dont drive a lot , obviously. But , if you find a good deal on an 06-09 HSE (none supercharged) one and can either do the work yourself or have a close friend friend who can, I say go for it . Buy it.. Ford owned RR during those years , heck man the coil packs literally say Ford Motor company on them. Yes they have sensors for sensors and thats a pita but mine has been (knocks furiously on wood) very reliable, hasnt left me stranded and as someone who has 3 disc herniations a fractured vertebrae and arthritis throughout mine spine, it is like no other truck to ride in. As well as it is a tank with a real frame , basically zero blindspots while driving. I plan on driving it until it turns to dust.
The new ones are bad. The older ones pre 1998 are decent mechanically. Phenomenal off road. This particular model is the cheaper one. Never ever buy a cheap newer land rover. Stick to the range rover, lr3 or lr4 or discovery 1, old defenders or range rover classic.
@Eminem oh my...you are indeed very ignorant.nigeria has the biggest economy in Africa. The rich there are stupidly rich . The richest black man in the world is Nigerian. however the poor are desperately poor too.
Never had a Terrain but I’ve heard horror stories about them. I can say I’ve had a Range Rover though and it was an absolute nightmare so Scotty isn’t wrong. Worst car I’ve owned! Wouldn’t recommend a Range Rover to anyone!
@@fidelcatsro6948 New Renegade Trailhawk Its already been to the dealer. A update came in. I had it install it. Then it's shows error. Didn't install properly. It needs to go to the dealer.
I've been driving Land Rovers since 1993 and never had any problems. IT'S ALL ABOUT MAINTENANCE... I do ALL my own work, buy the shop manuals... If ANYTHING the Japanese pieces of shite are much worse
I worked at an independent Land Rover dealer near MInehead, uk. The family were very dedicated to Land Rovers and their history. I think the only beef they had was when BMW owned them, then Ford, and now TATA.
My dad owned a Jaguar 2003 S-Type 3.0. just because he believed it would have given him some image, and indeed he was not wrong, every time he came from the mechanic he pure some cool image out of the millionth problem that car had 😂
I was at a junkyard once and saw a row of nice looking Range Rovers getting parted out. It occurred to me that they get junked long before the paint gets ugly.
That Evoque is made by Ford, unfortunately. The Engine is a EcoBoost 2.0 same as Mondeo, Volvo, Mazda, Fiesta. The transmission is from Toyota though. It’s an Aisin 6 speed automatic. I have the same evoque and it has 191000 km on the clock. To be honest, the engine is still in very good shape (I did changed the VVT cam gear), the AT is in good shape. The little 2.0 turbo engine is quite good and I am surprised and had to admit that Ford has what it takes to stay on top of the game. That car is 2013 and Ford could get almost 250HP out of a 2.0 engine. That is something.
I have a 2011 LR4 which has been great. I know the “R” in Rover doesn’t usually stand for reliable, but my LR has been very very good to me. Nearly 96,000 miles and keeps on going, and yes, the mileage ain’t great, but it can carry about anything anywhere 😜 Funny though, Rand River is their top of the line but the most unreliable 😲
After owning one for just under a year costing me thousands in repairs, was glad to see it go, would never buy anything made by Land Rover again as long as I live, Japanese all the way
I have a 4.4 Range Rover Vogue. Maintained correctly with oil change at 5k miles. Recently done all the diffs, t box and diffs. I also scan the car quite frequently to check for faults. Usually zero. I had a PCM when I had a dpf issue due to the throttle body valve sticking. Replaced, re coded and fine since
Really? The worst SUV ever? Does no one have anything nice to say about this car (other than it's nice inside??) I see a 2013 Envoque Pure for less than $10k
You just need to buy them new or from someone who treated it well. My family has one for 8 years and only the air conditioning system went wild with hot air and the casual stuff. Nothing over 2gs
My girlfriend wants a Range Rover Evoque because she told me they were very reliable, I told her straight up you get one of those, you'll be spending a lot of time with your mechanic, and also tow trucks. In my opinion I'd rather have a first gen Honda CRV, even if it's beat up, with 200k in miles on it I guarantee it will still last longer than a range Rover.
I've had an 07 RR HSE 4.4L for coming up on 8 years, got it with 77K original miles for $9800 haha couldn't pass it up. Out side of maintenance, tires ,brakes and oil , I've had to fix heater core and just yesterday new catalytic converters. That's it. Knocks very hard on wood , no issues , very reliable and extremely comfortable. I will drive it til it turns to dust. I think maybe because Ford owned them from 04 to 2012 ( I think that's the years) it makes it easier to work on. Heck the coil packs actually say Ford Motor company on them!
@@dtcdtc8328 lmaoo yes they are reliable if you know what you are doing and their reputation is only a myth, like any luxury car there are more things that could go bad or wear out. Range Rovers are underrated in my opinion they offer so much that others can’t match. And yes when ford owned them it was at their peak because my 2012 evoque has a ford engine its been perfect so far. I also own, fully paid with cash, a 2018 sport autobiography and its been amazing so far with nothing wrong. Knocks on wood, i got lucky and with the right care they can be amazing cars.
I was considering getting a British Army surplus armored Land Rover---(Stick-shift, diesel. RHD) as a possible "bug out" vehicle. But I'm not sure if the thing would be reliable enough when needed.
I own a 2005 Defender 90 Td5 owned for 12 years only had new tyres and brakes does now need a new front swivel seal still drives perfect been 100% reliable. Passed very MOT Test. Thats how LR's should be.
I sell industrial machines containing can bus. I heard it is in all cars these days. It is a nightmare when it acts up. Very few people understand it. And it takes car repairing out of the hands of us do it yourself types.
Series 1-3 Land Rovers used to go forever. Galvanised chassis and aluminium body. Often re- engined with non Landrover motors. No computer crap in those days.
Always wanted one of those. I heard they had removable panels in the floor to allow you to change u-joints from inside the vehicle. Too bad Land Rover got bought up by some big company and went the luxury route instead of staying a utility vehicle.
70k miles on top of the 40k w/o any serious $$ dumped into it isn't bad. It's already provided it's value. Now slap 22" wheels on it, throw in a huge sub and sell it to a wannabe rapper in the city.
I wished Toyota would have bought them from Ford... Not Tata... I have daily driven 5 Land Rovers in the 12 years of having my license lol. One was my mother's Range Rover when I was 16. The other I bought myself starting a decade ago. First a Discovery, then Range Rover Sport, then my current Range Rover, as well as trying a new Defender for a year as my recreation/off road use vehicle. I loved every one but the Disco. I was very biased being used to Range Rover lol, so didn't keep it long. The Defender was great fun! My only issue was that one was the independent suspension was a handicap on our very technical trails, here in rugged British Columbia! It was like wheeling in a big sedan, or crossover. I love the brand, but i think we need laws to ensure a certain level of reliability in something that creates so much waste, once it is no good anymore
I’ve had four range rovers. Currently have two. Had a problem with the first one about eighteen years ago. When that was fixed, no more problems. I just don’t understand what the fuss is about.
I've got a 10 year old Evoque. It's never broken down on me. As someone has mention here, the error codes are most like due to an old battery and lack of voltage in the car triggering them.
Greetings from Ireland Scotty.... this review of the Range Rover evoque is some of your finest work.... an entertaining and objective review of a Jaguar Land Rover product. ...
About a year ago I went with a friend to a foreign car repair shop to get her Mercedes worked on. It was a fair sized lot but you could barely move for getting around all of the Range Rovers. It looked like a RR used car lot!😂🤣
I absolutely love your videos but need to kinda disagree with you on this one. I had multiple Range Rovers and they were actually caused almost no problems. There are some engines and models to avoid that's correct which is also the case with other car brands. I think the problems is, as you said these cars are over-engineered products. After their warranty, people do not care about replacing the parts in a correct manner. One malfunctioning piece starts to affect others as they are all connected to each other. Thus, the cars get worse over time because of misuse actually.
I remember years ago it was only people with money that owned Land Rovers or Range Rovers. I live in a relatively poor area in Nth London and it's amazing the amount of people who don't have good jobs but have Land/Range Rovers. Ok, they buy them 3 years old when they have come to the end of a finance deal/warranty but when they go wrong which they will the money for repair bills is going to be hard to find.
There's a saying amongst Toyota fans to give Land Rover fans a good elbowing: A Land Rover will take you into the jungle. A Land Cruiser with get you back out.
I have friend who runs a garage in London, UK. They repairs LR and RR every day and as Scotty says amount of modules and computers per vehivle is greater than errors they produce.People buy vehicles their badges and for gadgets they offer but not reliability.
A coworker of mine had a brand new Land Rover a couple of years ago. Thing spent more time in the shop than out of it, including a warranty-covered full transmission replacement. Absolute piece of crap. She traded it in after putting only 20k miles on it. I don't know how they get away with selling this trash.
RRs get a lot of heat for maint issues. I think manageable if you can DIY and predict the known fail points. I have a 2016 RRS L494 TDV6. Has a Ford Lion diesel engine and a ZF transmission. I say research the failure points on the forms and stay ahead of any disasters. If you can manage the failures with mitigation the ride reward is great. I'm at 78k miles now and the next expected hurdle is the timing belt replacement. Wish me luck.
@@briancarton1804 oh. So you never had one? Well ive done my own maintenance and had very little trouble with the exception of the leaking sunroof which i always found pretty ironic considering the whole offroad thing. But thanks for calling me dumb. Cool
Overall they're not as unreliable as the rhetoric that's become trendy to knock them for these days. Not perfect but not the worst. You're more likely to have relatively long, happy motoring if you look after your Land Rover/Range Rover/Jaguar.
The new electric power steering wheels on the newer cars seem require constant little adjustments when driving on freeway, at least it's what I experience with my newer Honda and Acura. The older Hondas with hydraulic power steering wheel worked perfectly on freeway, which made for very relax long distant drives. My question is are there any newer cars that don't have that problem?
Scotty Kilmer is a modern day Saint. I am surprised major car dealerships haven't put a price on his head. Scotty is the Robinhood of our era, making it fair, robbing the rich by exposing their schemes and giving it to the poor by teaching them. God bless you, kind sir. There is a special place in Heaven for you, Scotty.
Wow didn't know Scotty made it to RI. I would say if it's a driver it is still better than any GM product. And yeah, the LR/RR is way more comfortable to sit in on the side of the road. Here is what happens to a GMC Sierra with
2006 Acura TL, 211,000 miles. No lights glaring at me, no codes. Just change the oil and drive the wheels off them. Just can’t take it off road... even an empty football field can be a challenge, but go it does. With no oil under it - Honda likes to keep the oil in the engine.
The joke that fits my mental narrative I hear about these cars: "If you want to go on a safari take a Land Rover, but if you want to come back take a Land Cruiser." Love my LX570.
Looks comfy and nice. Too bad it will probably leave you stranded all the time. Here in America it is a "money pit" so do the English call them "quid holes" or something?
I know it was a joke and it didn’t go over my head lol but If I’m not mistaken I believe they are cheaper to fix in England because parts don’t have to go thru Import and tariffs and all that other junk
With about all vehicles, communication codes are typically due to the battery being dead/disconncted/replaced. Once cleared they won't reappear unless the battery is disconnected again.
A few years ago at a local auto garage that I was looking at getting some auto work done had a just out of warrantee Range Rover in the shop. The owner of the shop told me that the owner had just purchased it and the engine went out. At a discount the repair bill was over 20K.
Still a much better choice than any femme Tesla. Ask one of their virtue signaling owners how much or costs to replace the battery 🔋 and how long it takes to FULLY charge it at home. Why do people ALWAYS want higher speed when they buy a new: 1. Phone 2. IPad 3. Computer 4. Video game console. But make am illogical exception when it comes to refueling speed @?
One of the people I know had to get dealership replace on of Land Rovers once they bought them because electrical systems failed and the car stopped almost immediately as they drove it from dealership.
I've had about 5 Range Rovers , lovely cars but so poorly made and unreliable which is a great shame because they are so expensive to buy and keep on the road ,be much better if Toyota made them.
Question, why can’t make Toyota or Lexus, such a nice interior? Why is there no car with high quality interior AND reliability? Why does it has to be either or? Imagine a Mercedes s class interior with a Toyota reliability… even Lexus IS boring in comparison to that or to Range Rover. …
RR fan here for life! To drive one is to understand why. We’ve had them as daily drivers since 2008, with very minimal reliability issues with our 2011 HSE in particular. We took delivery our sixth RR, a 2023 P530 Autobiography last month, and we could not be happier with it. The key is to own these vehicles while they are covered by a manufacturer/extended warranty.
@@robertromero8692 They could break down like any other modern car on the road today. I typically do not own cars for more than 30k miles, so I can't provide any long term reliability opinions based on personal experience.
@@briangeeesq "I typically do not own cars for more than 30k miles, so I can't provide any long term reliability opinions based on personal experience." That's exactly the point. Everything you've said reinforces the fact that these vehicles have no long term reliability.
@@robertromero8692 Some of them do, some of them don't. The overall unreliability over Jag Land Rovers is trendy rhetoric to joke about today, but not entirely accurate. You look after yours and you're more than likely to have long, happy motoring. It's when some do break and especially when they're expensive to fix that the moaning comes out and then the rhetoric that they're _all_ bad cars, which they're not.
@@david-spliso1928 It may be the case that some people haven't had horrible experiences. However, there's no doubt in my mind that hard factual statistics would show that these vehicles have poor reliability.

Phew, got lucky)
I took the ride into a machine car wash, and the side panels broke off!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 yea no my wife wanted a Range Rover.

What year models would you suggest staying away from? I found a 2011 HSE that I've been eyeing..
Haha they look awesome but I would NEVER buy one lol
I never owned a Range Rover but I did own a 2000 Land Rover for nearly 19 years. In that time the only major repair was when the head gasket blew and I didn't know it until the engine started to run awful. I bought a warranty as well and that payed for the repair. I blame myself for not getting the engine serviced regularly. Maybe would have been caught early and not been a major repair. I do miss it.
That's why left neglected but rover owner still fix, break, repeat legacy said by old age rovers

If it's 90's Nissan actually made in Japan it's not too bad I think. My 200sx I once had had a slight design flaw with the exhaust manifold / bolts but other than that very nice toy to play with.
Here in the UK you see these everywhere, its the Toyotas that are rare ironically!

Apart from Clarkson, The Royal Family and Harrys Garage!
What do you think about the 2011 Range Rover hse?
Depends on the mileage and maintenance record. That is always the first two things you look at.
You also must find a good mechanic who can take care of basic maintenance in the future.
@@johnciummo3299 Or own one while being a mechanic!

Yeah - but that doesnt get clicks.
By his laughter you can tell Scotty will turn down a free Range Rover
The new ones are bad. The older ones pre 1998 are decent mechanically. Phenomenal off road. This particular model is the cheaper one. Never ever buy a cheap newer land rover. Stick to the range rover, lr3 or lr4 or discovery 1, old defenders or range rover classic.
That many codes almost always means there is a bad ground connection somewhere.
These are History errors which differ from active/static ones. They could have been triggered if the guy's battery was bad at some point.

It was my second guess. My first guess was a BMW X5. Both are dumpster fires.
Sadness thing they were doing it so much better than we were
I absolutely love your videos but need to kinda disagree with you on this one.
Love Scott's reviews. Keep it going!

IOW, you're admitting that they will break down.
@@robertromero8692 They could break down like any other modern car on the road today.
I typically do not own cars for more than 30k miles, so I can't provide any long term reliability opinions based on personal experience.

That's exactly the point.
