I think the main reason people continue to say that Jokic is bad on defense is because it looks really bad when he gets beat. Jokic always knows when it's pointless and not possible to influence the shot anymore, so he doesn't even try and just conserves his energy. People only see these bad plays, and don't see all the good contests and deflections he gets from his high IQ and positioning. On net, he's an average maybe better than average defender, just looks really bad on the eye test. But that's just his game generally, so much of it is driven by IQ and then by efficiency, in terms of conserving energy and effort. It's why weve never really seen him injured, either. He's always working smarter.
