    Wow bud smooth job. I have a 2011 LTZ 1.4 TURDO and man ive had alot of problems... Recently fried the coil pack and had it replaced. Its running but a little shakey at idle sometimes... I worried. I constantly check oil and coolant levels and change oil regularly but for such a good looking car I wish I has bought a focus lol

    I purchased a 2012 cruz 1.4 turbo for a flip project. Learned about these motors and transmissions ,pros and cons and I wish I had a little shop because I would just work with this actual model and specialized in this car because there so easy to work on and the parts are cheap ….

      Yep should possible with an open ended wrench once it is out. I have had it happen also. Sometimes you can remove the oil pan and undo the mains and rod bearings to help.

    Try swapping a Chevy LS-V8 engine instead as an option. Do not forget the Chevy LS-V8 compatible high speed transmission.

    I broke a spark plug in the head of mine. So need to swap an engine. Thanks for the walktrough, help lot with the steps to take. Should do this next week, I had to find an engine first. Was a bit hard to find. I wanted to redo the engine but everyone says it easier just to swap?

    • @JonHolovach
      @JonHolovach  3 роки тому

      Probably is easiest. Even time wise. The head could be removed and spark plug hole fixed. But you need service info and special tools to time the engine. So a straight engine swap might be better

    • @lewnannyrichardson1650
      @lewnannyrichardson1650 3 роки тому

      That's what everyone say. I have timed many motor but that one is supposedly hard to time. I have done a 3.8l from a Thunderbird 93 and it was easy. But some mechanic said that the 1.4l is another world.

      Has nothing to do with engine timing. That’s looked after by internal crankshaft and camshaft sensors

    Hi. Sir, did you find the reason of the engine shaking? I have a 2012 cruze eco, manual transmission, only has 60K miles on the car. Three months ago, the engine started shaking, I could feel it even sitting in the car.
    At first I thought of the spark plugs, I changed all four spark plugs, still shaking. I then thought, mabe be the engin (transmission) mounts, I changed three of the four engine (transmission) mounts, left, right, front. I was about to change the rear mount by a garage mechainic, the mechanic raised up the car and showed me that the rear mount is good, oh btw, the three mounts I changed were all good.
    I just ran out of the idea of why my nine year old 1.4L turbo engine shakes. Did you car get the check engine light? My car does not have any warning light showing up. Do you think buying a 200-300$ scanning tool, get the live data may show the root cause of the engine shaking?
    Thanks for your help.
    Greeting from sunny Texas.

    • @JonHolovach
      @JonHolovach  2 роки тому

      Was misfiring hard. The garage that the previous owner took it to never checked the coolant. The water pump leaked it all out and cooked the head gasket I would assume or destroyed the head.
      As far as your car I shop with a good scan tool should be able to monitor misfires. Narrow it down from there. These cars like to cook the coil packs. I have replaced lots of them at my shop. Another thing to do is a compression test to make sure the cylinders are all even for compression. Some had trouble with pistons.

      PCV. I'm nearly 100% certain. Take it from someone who has... experience, tearing down multiple dozens of these engines and completed countless repairs on the GM 1.4.
      You have to understand the entire PCV system on this engine is second rate garbage, designed by the Opel unit after the GM merger in 2008-2010, who had very different philosophies regarding crankcase ventilation. It has a lot of problems, but mostly related to the valve inside the intake which is nothing more than a tiny plastic nipple ahead of the intake runners. It isn't properly secured and has no direct sensors to suggest failure other than a half dozen or so of other adjacent systems that will also eventually fail (which speculation could suggest is intentional). Point is, if it has failed it will not throw a code until the next system has failed. The valve takes no time to get sucked into the engine and/or destroyed, and once that happens the next failure point will be the diaphragm in the cam cover, which has a PCV channel built into it, or the one way PCV hose connecting to the turbo, as these components will undergo rapid stresses neither of these parts are designed to handle once the PCV valve in the intake fails. Only upon these other failures will the ECU throw a code, most likely a P0171 code.
      Once you have this code you must replace the:
      a) Cam cover,
      b) PCV hose,
      c)entire intake manifold, as the PCV valve is not a standalone component.
      All of if must be replaced or the multiple points of failure will show up again.
      Personally, I would buy a PCV delete (typically called a 'cruze kit') and fix the problem at the source, save your intake manifold in the process and just buy a new cam cover and hose. Not even joking, some guy who has a PVC molding shop has prepared his entire retirement savings but producing and selling a delete kit for this exact situation. And best of all... he uses plumbing parts from the hardware store. A guy actually fixed a notorious and infamous problem that has hit so many people with massive repair bills with nothing more than some cheap plumbing parts, and fixed an error that shouldn't even exist that the GM-Opel unit spent millions on engineer salaries, research, and design to produce.

    • @JonHolovach

      All depends on engine price and labor. Engine usually 1000, labor be another 1000. Oils and other fluids be anywhere between 2500 to 3000. That’s at my shop anyways. We used to find motors for these cars for 500-600 dollars now they are over 1000 here.

    I swapped out a 1.4 engine in a Buick encore. Now I have crankshaft circuit an and camshaft circuit a codes. It started perfect after installation but I noticed a the electrical system light came on . After shutting it off now it doesn’t start. Does anyone know where I can find an electrical schematic in the wiring ? I have a ground bolt left over after installation but I am not sure where it goes. Does anyone know if there is a ground bolt right by the starter near the back of the engine ? I’m assuming that’s where the bolt goes. First engine replacement I did just by following this video believe it or not.

    • @antoniobalderas5808
      @antoniobalderas5808 4 місяці тому

      Notes** after installation everything worked perfectly. Even moved the car from driveway to street. I believe there is a short to ground or a timing issue because it’s rare that both crankshaft and camshaft circuit codes both pop up.

    • @RoastinNdRaging
      @RoastinNdRaging Рік тому

      Exact problem. Mine ended up just shutting off completely as if the battery is dead no power whatsoever for the past 2 months. Had an oil/coolant leak that apparently couldn’t be fixed at the Chevy dealer due to it being in the engine or something. So I’m debating new or used motor lol but it ran pretty good for me for a Cruze in the 2 and a half years of ownership but reviews from others on this car is horrible lol
