It’s so frustrating that you can’t just lock exposure without disabling af in the native camera app. Judging how long we’ve waited for the toggle for locking white balance we might get this in iPhone 21 :) But fair play to apple for adding this full fledged log profile. I find that it’s also best to underexpose the footage by about a stop shooting in apple log. Great video as always.
@@yamahass66 no you can’t. You can adjust exposure but unless you lock it the phone will continue to auto expose and the exposure will go up and down during recording depending on metering. If I hold down a finger on the screen to lock the exposure I will lock the af as well. Now way to separate them and there is no setting for it either.
@@LiveMyJourneyTom You are right! Wow thats bad 😢 i saw a video someone did this. But I assumed the meetering did not change since you are able to use exposuresetting. You had me checking to make sure I didn’t miss something haha. Unfortunately this still isn’t quite it. You can set the exposure compensation that way, but it will still fluctuate depending on where you point the camera. So you can set it to a good starting point, but then if someone with a black hoodie walks into frame, it will go “woah! Just got darker!” And brighten it up, keeping the whole frame to what it thinks is the exposure you want. Ideally, you would set and lock the exposure so it doesn’t fluctuate during your clip.
Nice post mate! Clear to the point! Question regarding the proxy option of Log... (even though I think I know the answer...) When we shoot Log proxy, is not like when we have large video files, we "transform" them to proxy and then we can access the larger original files on Davinci to color grade right? We don't have that choice? Or we do...? thanks! cheers!
Correct! Apple ProRes Proxy is just a file compression type, not an actual secondary file. It’s called that because it often gets used as that secondary smaller file to ProRes HQ. But if you’re shooting your primary file in ProRes Proxy, you’ll still get decent quality with smaller file sizes than the other ProRes options.
