It is easily the best explanation and comparison videos of CODEC focusing on HEVC and ProRes I have watched. It is on point and precise, and easy to understand and digest. I think it's time for ProRes to have a successor. MPEG-2TS, MP4/H264, and HEVC/H.265 have all come out within ProRes' lifespan. Especially when compared to Blackmagic Raw and even ProRes Raw, it feels oversized for its quality. Maybe smaller versions of ProRes Raw could replace ProRes for capture? I’m so glad I watched your video. I originally assumed that h265 would only be affecting shots where there is a lot more movement for the compression to handle and no finer detail in more static shots would be affected. I was happy with the image for the iPhone 15 pro max but still thought it was plain to see it was shot with a mobile phone. On the last shoot after watching your video I used ProRes 422 and tbh the difference is plain to see. The image is much more organic. It looks close to a modern camera and a lot less digital and processed. Thanks for taking your time to create this detailed video.
Yeah H265 is a sort of temporal type of compression, so static areas will be affected more. But also moving areas with solids in their motion blur. Really happy the video helped Thanks for watching
@@THEDPJOURNEY it sure did. I think had the balckmagic allow for w bit more than 50 mbps in h265 it might look a bit better. For my use recording ProRes 422 internally is good enough.

I feel like I learn so much from this video and the decisions actually make sense to me now seeing the footage. Sometimes I struggle with seeing the difference in the footage in comparison videos as I'm still training my eyes and this one really helped with that in addition to the topic at hand
Wow. As a beginner, this video was AMAZING-it was informative, concise yet detailed (almost like 422 codec dare I say), with clear explanations and insightful examples. Thank you very much!
Wow, this has to be one of the most informative videos I've seen as a video content creator! I've learned so much through this video! Thank you for making this :D
I don’t have any knowledge in video editing or photography. I wanted to look the difference between ProRes and H.265 for my everyday pictures and videos. This was so clear and easy to understand that ProRes is excellent; however, as a normal user, H.265 will be the best option for me
Thank you for such an in-depth video, some bits were too technical for me be your way of explaining helped me a lot to understand some of it at least... loved the comparison style too...
Mind blowing Apple tech. My DJI mini 4 pro using 10 bit HLG 4K struggles on my M3 Pro with 18gb ram and the ProRes LOG with color grading and lots of effects is smooth as butter. Only downside is the file size and needing to connect an external SSD to even use it.
Outstanding tutorial, you even made the section you warned would be technical very easy to follow. I wish you made videos for every one of my filmmaking questions :D
Thank you so much for the compliment, glad you found it easy to grasp. Please go ahead and ask questions here, I’m curious what do you need clarification for?
What an excellent explainer! The demonstrations regarding denoise performance and generation loss were exceptional - you made the difference super clear. A big thanks for running through the different ProRes versions as well; I was having a hard time nailing down the exact level of diminishing returns I'd be comfortable with, but being able to see them cycled through was very enlightening. Thanks you!
Immensely helpful, beautifully explained. I shoot simple 3-min music performance clips with an iPhone 15 Pro in ProRes LOG 4k/60. The ProRes workflow is smooth and simple, and the performers look wonderful. Edit in ProRes, export, then delete the big ProRes files. Thanks to what I learned here, I reckon I should export in H.264 instead of H.265 for UA-cam.

Thank you so much for the kind words and for your support. I hope this would help you make the best codec decisions in your upcoming shoots 👍👍
First!
I should organise some sort of competition with prizes for the first comment, honestly, thanks again for your dedication, really appreciate it
@@THEDPJOURNEY I'm a huge fan, have been watching you since the beginning. Hope to meet you one day to shoot something. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you so much again for your loyalty and support, it would definitely be a pleasure working with you one day
ok
And…
This video single-handedly answered all my questions and solved my dilemma.
I've decided I'm settling on recording with ProRes 422 LT (on my iPhone 15 Pro) for balance between file size and image quality.
Really glad it answered your questions. Thanks for watching
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your kind contribution to the channel. Much appreciated 🙏
I teach video for a living. I certify my students in Premier. This is THE ABSOLUTE BEST explanation I have seen to date! Subbed!
Thank you so much for your kind words! And welcome aboard
What a brilliant, clear and concise video explanation. Thank you! That’s been so helpful.
Thank you so much for the compliment. Happy you found it informative 👍👍
Wow, this is one of the best technical YT videos I've ever seen. Your explanations are crystal clear and so simple to understand. Thank you for marvellous work. 😀
Thank you so much for such an awesome comment
You made me understand what others failed to explain to me for years. Important work, extremely well done !
Really happy to hear that. I’m glad I can help
Stay tuned for more then, and please share if you can
Thankful to find this video. Another UA-camr insisted on H.265 and sold me on the small size but when it came to editing I couldn't figure out why my M2 MacBook was struggling with it. Now I know why. Thank you for educating me. I think I'll stick with ProRes LT.
Really glad I can help. Thanks for watching
This is the closest to perfection a video about video editing can get!
It would be great if you could compare the footage of the16 Pro with the 15 Pro to see if there's any difference or improvements.
You got yourself a new subscriber!
Thank you so much! I’m already working on that other one. Should be out soon
Jesus bro, I can't imagine the effort you put into this for the INSANE quality. I don't even wanna watch other videos after watching yous. you have spoiled us lol
This is the best video I have found about how codecs work, and which one to use. Thank you so much for making this video.
Really happy to hear that, glad you liked it, thanks for your support
After this video I feel as really experienced cameraman 😁 really good video🙂
Really happy I can help, Thank you so much for watching
Wow. The educational value of this video is off the charts. Thank you so much for such a clear, thorough explanation of something that had been so confusing before. That combined with the side-by-side examples and the educational graphics, what a service! Thanks again!
You're very welcome!
Thanks for this! This is super helpful! Your way of explaining super complex things in an easy manner is by far the best! Thanks!
Really glad I managed to successfully simplify it for everyone. It wasn’t easy I must say 😂
Thanks for watching
Fantastic way for information delivery! Super nice part when you compare
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching. Would really help if you Like, share and sub please, it does help the channel. Thanks again
As a producer and editor, I feel like I become the "Resolution Nazi" with my clients - and often wonder if it's overkill when the clients don't really notice or care about maintaining image integrity. Your video restores my confidence that we should maintain professional protocols to create the most pristine imagery possible. Thank you for the well-informed pep talk!
Really happy you liked it. Clients would never understand this of course. Many times I go against their will and just shoot in the best format for the job and then just export it to whatever they want
i was always afraid to shoot in prores. boy, this enlightens me. very nice video.
Incredible work. You rock!!
Please make a video with dual iphone rig setup. Vertical + Horizontal capturing at the same time. Plus the required gears + mounts !! I am so intrested !
Thank you so much for the kind words. I published this other video that might answer your questions

Let me know
I’m so glad I watched your video.
Really happy the video helped
Thanks for watching
@@THEDPJOURNEY it sure did. I think had the balckmagic allow for w bit more than 50 mbps in h265 it might look a bit better. For my use recording ProRes 422 internally is good enough.
This is the best video explaining technical info i've seen in a white!
Thank you Sherif! amazing!
Really happy you liked it, thank you so much for the support and for the kind words
WOW! That made things so easy to understand
I love that you presented us a system that considers all aspects of the process to help make decisions! I feel like I learn so much from this video and the decisions actually make sense to me now seeing the footage. Sometimes I struggle with seeing the difference in the footage in comparison videos as I'm still training my eyes and this one really helped with that in addition to the topic at hand
Thank you so much, really happy you liked the comparison. And thank you so much for the kind words.
Wow. As a beginner, this video was AMAZING-it was informative, concise yet detailed (almost like 422 codec dare I say), with clear explanations and insightful examples. Thank you very much!
Really glad you found like 422 🤓👍
Glad I can help at this phase of your career. Best of luck
Wow, this has to be one of the most informative videos I've seen as a video content creator! I've learned so much through this video! Thank you for making this :D
Really happy you you like it. Much appreciate your kind words
Best. Video. Ever. Exactly what I was looking for and explained in the simplest and most professional way possible.
Wow, thanks! 🙏
This video is exceptional!!!
The effort you put into it must be intense. Instant sub!
Thank you so much 🙏🙏 welcome aboard
I don’t have any knowledge in video editing or photography. I wanted to look the difference between ProRes and H.265 for my everyday pictures and videos. This was so clear and easy to understand that ProRes is excellent; however, as a normal user, H.265 will be the best option for me
Glad I helped you make the right decision for you 🙏
Thanks for watching
Woah! Wait! I finished this video!? Why do I find it entertaining? (Not in a negative way). This is true Masterclass!!! I learned a lot!
Realllly glad you liked it!!! Thanks for the compliments 🙏
Would really appreciate if you share it. It helps with the channel a lot. Thanks again
Thank you for such an in-depth video, some bits were too technical for me be your way of explaining helped me a lot to understand some of it at least... loved the comparison style too...
Glad you liked it. Yeah that’s why I gave a Nerd Alert warning 🤓 but glad you survived it
I know it’s a bit intense but necessary
Mind blowing Apple tech. My DJI mini 4 pro using 10 bit HLG 4K struggles on my M3 Pro with 18gb ram and the ProRes LOG with color grading and lots of effects is smooth as butter. Only downside is the file size and needing to connect an external SSD to even use it.
yeah that's why ProRes became industry standard for editing and even mastering.
Really good video. Love the technical aspect of video compression and the comparisons. Love to see similar videos in the future.
Thanks, will do!
Well the problem with HVEC is that Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve doesn’t support it 😢
man this is mind-blowing! complex topic clearly explained both in words and images, it is a university photography lecture.
Thank you so much for the compliment. Really glad you liked it
Amazing video - spent an ages trawling the internet and this single video answered all my questions and more! Subscribed 🙂
Really glad to hear that. Thank you so much for watching.
Thanks you!
Thank you so much for the kind compliments and awesome comment, really happy you found this video informative, and it answered all your questions
This is the best youtube explanatory video I'v seen in a while. Thanks man. I really needed this🙌
Super appreciate your kind words, thanks for watching and happy you liked it
Incredible, best HEVC vs ProRes breakdown on the Internet
Thank you so much, please share if you can, much appreciated
This made so much sense. I've been struggling with understanding all this stuff.
Really happy this helped you understand it
LIterally one of best tutorial-videos I've ever seen on UA-cam
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it 🙏
@@THEDPJOURNEY you’re welcome
This is one of the best explanations I have ever seen - bravo!
Much appreciated m, thank you so much Hamid
Immensely helpful, beautifully explained. I shoot simple 3-min music performance clips with an iPhone 15 Pro in ProRes LOG 4k/60. The ProRes workflow is smooth and simple, and the performers look wonderful. Edit in ProRes, export, then delete the big ProRes files. Thanks to what I learned here, I reckon I should export in H.264 instead of H.265 for UA-cam.
This is such a superbly excellent video. Best discussion and comparison I've seen on this topic by far. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your support
