    Instead of doubling your shutter speed to 1/48 & 1/120 when using 24fps or 60fps simply change your shutter Measurement from "Speed" to "Angle". Settings > Camera > Shutter Measurement > Angle. Then lock your shutter to the 180 angle.

      I didn’t use a cage and external storage. It’s all in this video how I did it. For the Freewell lens, you need the Freewell phone case.

    Thank you for this amazing explainer video. I have mostly been shooting on my Sony camera and supplementing shots through my iPhone 14. Now I would want to flip this game with the Black Magic app. Will employ the camera only for specific use cases. Although I don’t have the ability to use  log, I’m hoping that Rec2020-HDR can be given a shot? Let me know what you think. Once again, appreciate the efforts to make such a wholesome video!

      @pascalbasel  6 місяців тому

      Rec2020 HDR is the best option on the 14 Pro. Apple Log is a good difference tough ;-)

    Great video! Which ND filter do you like best between the Freewell or the Sandmarc? I heard one gentleman said he had a hard time with getting the Sandmarc turned at just the right angle without getting part of the picture too dark in one area.

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  6 місяців тому +3

      I didn't try the Freewell VND, but if you get a dark edge with the Sandmarc, this is because the filter is not properly attached to cover the right camera on the back of your phone.

    _Great video, I’d like to use Apple log over HEVC, because with Apple log, the image colors are not burnt in to the image, and I can manipulate the actual colors recorded in the video; with HEVC, the image is finalized or burnt in_

    • @pascalbasel
      @pascalbasel  6 місяців тому +2

      No, BM is Apple LOG in HEVC. HEVC is a codec, LOG is a picture profile (or a gamma curve to be precise).

    Anyone else had issues with recording LUTs to videos. I’ll record with LUT baked in. But in the photo library it previews as log still until you click it but the issue lies with going to share that video on say Facebook or Instagram it doesn’t display the LUT properly as it was viewed on the screen

    I personally prefer ProRes 422 LT. Less compression, higher bitrate. It's more personal preference, but I prefer using an external SSD. Finish shooting, plug into computer, start editing. If you are already going to rig the iPhone, its not like the ssd adds a lot of weight.
    In terms of Display LUT, I created my own in Davinci Resolve using the Color Space Transform, the official apple one is way too saturated and over exposed for my taste. I can add that back in if it makes sense, but I would like to just be able to see what the camera is seeing. In general, the default display LUT is better than nothing, but having the display LUT that matches your expected grade is the best.
    In general, great video. I just got a cage/case, the neewer one with the handles, so i should get all the mounting points i need, but should be able to hold it and use it like a phone. Thanks for showing the Sandmarc anamorphic, because I believe it is compatible (if it has the 17mm threads). That is the only lens I would really want to use, because it really gives a different look and feel. I want to connect an hdmi monitor, dji mic, ssd and a VND on a tripod or for some handheld stuff.
    Also going to play around with DJI Osmo Mobile 6, and see if i can do some cool underslung shots.

      Do you just import an Apple Log clip, make a node with CST and create LUT from that clip? Or is there more to it? I'm not liking the Blackmagic Camera app LUT too much either.

    • @MaximoJoshua
      @MaximoJoshua Місяць тому

      @@Kreilo2412 You don't even need to import a clip. You can just apply any grade you want and right click and export a LUT. Then import it into BM Camera App.
      So, you could just create a node add a CST that converts from Apple Log to Rec709 (or I prefer using HLG), and then right click and export your LUT.

    Pascal, great video as always and like you, 'Vertical Video' is 🤣. Re the LUT, any suggestions re a LUT solution that stays in HDR. As a side point, given iPhones, MacBook Pro's, iPad Pro's and so many other devices can edit a HDR workflow, more importantly UA-cam can display HDR or SDR depending on the viewers device, why very skilled people like you are downgrading the footage from HDR to SDR (Rec.709)? I'd love to see someone with your skills going to work around HLG, Apple log and a HDR workflow. SLOG3, it's a real pain compared to HLG. Just my humble observations and opinion mate.

    • @pascalbasel

      @@pascalbasel it's a good point Pascal, I see that they overdo the colours but really the bit I'm interested in is the fact that it's a brighter overall picture I dial down on the colours, not that I'm very good mate. I will say quite like Dehancer pro, although I'm still getting my head around it. Best wishes to you and yours mate.

    Smartphones are getting so good at cinematic quality videos it's beginning to get harder and harder to recommend buying a dedicated camera with each passing year. Of course dedicated cameras will always have the edge (because physics), but it's amazing to see that what used to require a DLSR or mirrorless camera from even 5 years ago can be done on a phone. I can't wait to see where smartphones might be in 5 to 10 years, perhaps they will have mostly absorbed the MFT market.
