      Thanks! Ain't no one perfect. I've made thousands of omelets in my day working in a restaurant. The day I filmed this just wasn't my day. It happens. To everyone. And I wanted to show that if it does happen, what you can do to 'fix' it. You don't have to scrap your whole breakfast just because the eggs didn't want to cooperate.

    I don't hold you accountable for breaking the omelette, but anyone trying to teach others about cooking eggs should know that if the butter is browning, then the pan is too hot. The butter should simply be sizzling and releasing vapor, but not browning. Any basic cookbook with an omelette recipe tells you that much.

      There is no right or wrong way to cook when your homecooking.. it's all a matter of preference. E.g. I think resteraunt style omelets are gross. All you can taste is the egg. Nothing else really comes out besides maybe the cheese and salt. A perfect omelette to me is a far cry from this video.
      2 eggs max. Cook the eggs to the consistency of your preference, THEN add ingredients and roll the egg over the ingredients. It's all a matter of preference.

      @@edwardlikens8924 not really. Yes it's thinner but leaving it on a lower heat your not moving it around as much than you would with a higher heat. It's like it loses the fluffiness. Not sure why that is maybe it's an air thing. It's why I don't cook on lower heat when it comes to eggs.

    If you want the cook the egg a bit more (for those that don’t like “wet” eggs), before you fold, add your accompanying ingredients/cheese/whatever and throw under a broiler (oven safe pans only!) for 30 sec to a min, cheese melts, eggs cooked, no flipping and a perfect omelette. Fold after in pan and slide onto plate... 💯👌🏻

      The plate idea is a great one! This is actually the first time an omelet broke on me in forever. I've made omelets all day long for years in restaurants but of course when I turn the camera on, it breaks. Now if I wasn't on camera, it would've been flipped in the air but the stove I cook on for videos isn't at a height that I can flip. And I almost didn't post this video because of that but I wanted to show that even the pros have off days and that it isn't the end of the world. Just gotta work with it. :-)

    I used to be a short order cook. We used a huge griddle. I always poured the eggs roughly into a rectangle put the cheese and ham. Folded the short sides over then the long sides
    over sealed all of the filling inside. Gave it one flip so the seams side was down. Then plated it up.

    Nice video! Looks delicious! I love making omelettes. Usually when I first put the eggs in the pan before the egg starts to cook I throw in all my ingredients. Usually I make a loaded omelette with bacon or ham, fresh mushroom (previously fried to remove moisture), onion and red and green peppers. Cook slow as to not burn the bottom and when it is no longer runny on top add salsa and cheese and flip once to a half moon shape. Even if the egg is a little runny on top when I flip I find the heat in the flipped egg is enough to fully cook it. Really good!

    Thanks so much for sharing. Anytime anyone asked me if I want an omelette I never accept. I thought they had things like onions, hot peppers, and green things in them. I've never made one, but I'm about to. Thanks to you. It looks delicious, and I already have all the ingredients. Thanks again.

    Very practical demonstration. I feel like what made this video so good is that it was relatable (the omelet breaking in the pan, the crack when you put it unto the plate). These things happen in real kitchens! Thanks for sharing :)

    • @larsorloff3393
      @larsorloff3393 6 років тому +2

      too thick and you'll brown or burn the bottom while the eggs on top are still liquid, especially with this guy using far too high heat........use lower heat and your eggs will remain firm but moist and you won't need to flip the damn thing >

    Oil AND butter? Well, that’s where I went wrong.
    Thank you for these videos, as someone who was never taught how to cook and trying to figure it out on my lonesome, it really helps to have such a calming voice go over things and telling me to just roll with the mistakes. I tend to get into my own head and be quite harsh on myself, so this is quite the nice change of pace.
    Have a lovely, lovely day! c:

  • @bfcraigable
    @bfcraigable 7 років тому +6

    Two things: I don't let the butter get brown as it spoils the taste and is not visually appealing so don't have your pan on too high a heat. Also, I find it better to flip my omelet. It takes a bit of practice, but gives a cohesive result. Oh, and best to use a non -stick pan.
