maybe it's a lack of website updates, but so far it doesn't seem like Volkswagen has any hybrid or plug-in powertrains. The Jetta has the same 1.5T as it did for almost a decade with no hybridisation in sight. Is this accurate?
Hi i work with VW in Canada. 🇨🇦 We do not offer hybrids because they are for sissys.
Unchanged engines are actually a great thing.
1. All the quirks worked out from the Manufacturer's end.
2. Technicians have gotten used to working on it.
3. Aftermarket parts suppliers, salvage yards provide easily available parts.
Additionally, we are reaching a point with hybrids, where they have become very complex and very fragile. For example, 2 oil changes a year are recommended for the Prius to get rid of condensation as an example. And that's the best, most reliable, "Made in Japan" Option out there. If you are not doing a ton of city driving, (Taxi, delivery), then a regular gas engine might be a reasonable decision to reduce engine complexity and fragility in the long term.
VW doesn't have hybrids. They only do EV.
@@amjadqureshi4622 they do but not for our market. They've had a Golf PHEV and a GTE for a while now.
@@TomK-n8e hybrids aren't fragile at all. They're excellent durable systems that really cut emissions down considerably. Some are even more reliable than typical ICE+transmissions. Take for instance Honda's current generation hybrid which doesn't have a transmission and powers the wheels via the electric motor+reducer set only, which the engine serves as a generator. That's a pretty ideal setup for long-term durability, and it returns 4.0L/100km / 200hp.
Volkswagen has remained totally stagnant for the North American market, banking on large empty vehicles and outdated powertrains.
