I know I've said it before, but from my personal experience, you truly are MORE HELPFUL THAN THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS ARE! Thank you so much for the great advice and clear explanation of things. GREAT CHANNEL!!!
You're welcome!! Thanks for always being such an awesome cheerleader!
Thanks for always addressing the issues that other paraplegics never want to address.
This has helped me a lot and I bet a lot like me will appreciate your advice as well.
You don't learn these type of things in rehab, and when you ask a fellow paraplegic they usually don't want to answer and just avoid the question.
You're welcome! That's why I address these topics:) I was always too afraid to ask so now I make it my mission to answer questions I was afraid to ask.
Got to respect the transparency. And keep ém coming! ;) Merry Christmas!
Always interesting and inclusive information. You do a great job explaining your routine and the fact you work as a team is so lovely.❤️
UTI’s are just awful anytime any help preventing them is a bonus. Excellent information Britt, you help so many people with your openness.
Thank you for being so open, and making this kind of video.
You're welcome!
Very nice description. I'll have to start using these techniques. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this wonderful information i love you ❤
There was a lot there that applies outside your obvious community. A very frank and honest description of mutual needs and responsibilities when you ae part of a partnership. Well done, so many have to learn as they go, with all the pain and suffering that can cause
Mutual needs and responsibilities is such wonderful way to put it!!
thankyou so much for all the info. have had problems of uti since 13 yrs old. am now in my seventies so it is difficult . have uti now, ugh! can not get around very well. enjoy someone who speaks so well and doesn't mind telling it like it is!
Uti's are a beast. I hope something I have shared helps!
I have been watching your channel for over a year now and appreciate your frank discussion on topics like this. I was born with a disability and dating, sex and marriage seemed to be taboo subjects. I also went to a Catholic school which further impacted any information I received. I spent my early 20s getting back to back UTIs and it wasn't until I did some research that I was able to figure out some tips for prevention. As someone said upthread, you should look into getting a job at a rehab centre to educate patients and staff on para-issues.
Thank you for the kind words! I like educating people in a way that I can control. Rehab hospitals are run by healthcare systems that have regulations about what you can say and/or teach. I do a lot of volunteer educationing as a peer mentor at my local rehab hospital though!
Brittney you and Joe work well as a team. 👏👏👏
Yep we do!! Thankfully!
It’s great how you can help so many other people as you are so comfortable and confident talking about these topics! I suspect Rehab facilities don’t have the guts to discuss this sort of thing, despite the fact that intimacy is an important part of life. Kudos to you Brittney!
Thanks! I agree, most rehab facilities skip info like this
@@EmpoweredPara That’s kinda sad. I do realize that Rehab is concentrating on other things, but since I’ve heard you and others say that the first thing many strangers ask is “Can you have sex?”, anything to inform, especially the newly injured, would be beneficial.
Watching this makes it crystal clear that you're an excellent educator. Thanks for sharing your perspective and experience on this topic. Really appreciated.
Thank you! I don't feel like an excellent educator lol. I feel inarticulate, but it matters to me to share the info so I'll keep at it!
@@EmpoweredPara You may be your own worst critic, but you do articulate very well and explain things very well. Keep up the great work!
@@vickenator thank you!
Great tips, as always! I invested in a portable bidet bottle for this type of use and it's great.
Portable bidet bottle! Gonna look that up!
Again, a great job Brittney! But girl do you realize how fast you were talking? When the subject matter is a little uncomfortable it causes us to speed thru the conversation. It's all good! Whew! Kudos to you for putting it out there. My husband & I have adopted a similar routine. When we were younger we didn't initiate the process of getting cleaned up as soon afterwards & found out that the cuddling in afterglow is great, wonderful for bonding and all but Lord help you if you fall asleep or simply wait too long to get cleaned up. It's an invitation for a UTI...Now it's just part of the routine we do together & it's just understood it's part of what our intimacy involves as a couple. In fact we oftentimes use the wipes in foreplay depending on what we had been doing before the encounter. Sometimes it's really hot & after sitting, I'd just prefer to freshen up but not take time & risk losing the mood by taking a shower. So we might go through a lot of wipes..but thats ok as long as we keep from getting an infection. I too use goats milk soap, down the extra fluids, D-Mannose, cranberry..all part of the routine..
You're the second person this week to point out how fast I talk, lol! I'm working on it, haha. I really appreciate the constructive feedback:)
I love that we have such a similar routine! Definitely, making the washing part of the foreplay is fun!
@EmpoweredPara and the "clean-up " afterwards together is done with a mutual love and respect because neither of us wants me to get sick with a UTI. When I'm miserable life is no fun for him either.
@@tamelawinter8821 Exactly! Happy wife, happy life!
Great video! D-mannose worked wonders for me after sex, until 2 years ago, when I developed urinary retention (urine is not peed 100%, and it stays in fhe bladder). Now I have to use self cath, I haven’t started yet, and it’s already freaking me out. I just hope that via self cath I will be able to flush out the bacteria and just live normal life. Now I have UTI every time I have sex and it’s terrible. I have MS btw
Great advice, thank you for sharing in a straight forward, and easy to understand way...Happy Holidays and have a great week! 🕊️
Happy holidays!
@@EmpoweredPara Thank You! 💕 🕊️ 💕
Where did you get the crewneck from ? I love it

Thank you!!! we have a similar process as you. I am paraplegic due to spinal cord injury, I/we do pre and post cleaning. I ask my husband to clean himself prior to sex. I have a hand held shower head next to the toilet to clean post sex. Take D-mannose and 2 Cranstat Extra.
Thanks so much for sharing your routine! Comments are the most valuable place to learn from multiple people at once!
@EmpoweredPara what does the d mannose do exactly. is it a diuretic, antibiotic? I did hear you say it collects the e -coli but how does it work? very good information.
@davidvogel6359 D-mannose is a sugar similar to the sugar in the cells of your urinary tract that ecoli attach too. Instead of attaching to your urinary tract cells the ecoli attach to the d- mannose in your urine and once they're attached they get stuck and can no longer infect your cells. Then they get flushed out when you pee
Oh I have had this problem and I don't use a catheter. It is really an awful problem to have. I wash after too and it definitely helps.
Yeah women get the brunt of uti's unfortunately
I have to recommend a great cleanser for the lady parts that is healthy to your ph balance. It’s called honey pot. I highly recommend.
Thank you so much! I love that the comments always teach me new things!
Thanks for the video. Are those wipes dry? I live in Alberta where can I buy them?
They're wet wipes. I just buy them at the grocery store in the baby aisle! Huggies Natural
@@EmpoweredPara Thank you:)
Do you use a bidet attachment on your toilet? I am not in a wheel chair but it did help stop my frequent utis.
I don't. I am always worried about it spreading the bacteria rather than cleaning it. It sprays toward the area that I want to keep bacteria out of.
What's also very helpful to prevent uti is to keep that entire area dry with actually using a hand hair dryer . Its very convenient and eliminates bacteria. There maybe alternative types of dryer, but those cheap hand hair dryers are handy.
Forgot to add that the dryer comes after all the cleaning and washing. You feel more comfortable after using the dryer for like 2mins.
Yeah moisture definitely breeds bacteria. Keep thr inside wet and the outside dry lol
What size are your blue pads? Mine seem so much smaller. 😊
I think she uses a 23" x 36" size chux because I use the same!! Hope that helps :-)
12 by 25 inches I think
Oops I stand corrected! That just goes to show you should never be too sure :-) 🙂
@@MariamPareArt Mine are 17" x 22" lol. I had to check after your comment! I was wrong too haha!
I didn't knew it was that complex for the girls, what we use to do it's just a regular shower (i use to use condomns) and so far... i or my partheners never had an UTI from sex relaions; but i guess that we, the guys, have a much less complex organ than the girls, i'll keep it in mind anyway, thanks for the info.
10:05 I take it you mean "a *lot* of water."
Have you tried using a bidet? Either hand held or mounted to toilet.
no, I have this fear that it will shoot bad bacteria toward my urethra since it shoots from back to front
It would be difficult to get in the mood with a woman in a wheelchair because id feel as if im doing something wrong? Also k would not mind a woman in a wheelchair or a blind women or a deaf woman because i like to take care of women. Its a loving thing. I believe Woman should be taken care of by s guy especially s disabled woman
I need your whole family to make a video saying I'm NOT crazy, or a dork.
The paralyzed girl I know thinks I am for asking an Irish Nun out in 7th grade.
I'm so confused about the Irish nun comments lol
@@EmpoweredPara In 7th grade about 1 week before my 13th birthday I asked an Irish Nun out before I knew she was a Nun.
My superduper flirty approach was to tell her I'll teach her all about kissing.
The Nun is also the one I mentioned about the Brits grabbing.(She's back in N.Ireland).
@johnvelas70 was she an adult lol? You asked an adult out at 13 haha?
@@EmpoweredPara Of course. I discovered girls at the ripe old age of 7.
@@johnvelas70 lol hate to see what you're like now !
