Thanks for showing us the bathroom renovation, it looks sooo much better and more user-friendly. Hey, that’s the same flooring that my wife and I have in our bathrooms! Man, that sure is a big transfer - and we screamed out “Jeez” when you almost fell getting back in your chair - that scared the crap outta us! Hope you didn’t hurt yourself.

I did a favor for the quadriplegic 2x but forgot to time myself doing it.
She asked me to see how long it takes me to carry two 20kg (45lb) weights and walk 200 paces.
I did the walk with the weights & forgot to time myself twice yesterday and once more today. But in my defense, I got interrupted and started talking to someone I know from my old Church. About 10 minutes later I finally put them down and decided maybe a swim will wake me up.
    It didn't.

I’m glad you’re ok. I literally gasp when I saw that you didn’t land on your wheel chair properly. I have peripheral neuropathy, Rheumatoid arthritis. I was paralyzed for six months because of Covid. Instead of my immune system attacking the virus, it attacked my nervous system so I was diagnosed with Gillian Barre system. I can walk now (barely), actually my legs are very weak. My legs do that same shaking as yours and it absolutely drives me crazy. Im living with my elderly parents and we’re trying to move closer to family we have no friend or family where we live now. So Im trying to find a home for us where we can convert some of the areas of the house to be more accessible to me and for my parents. I find your vids to be very informative. Thanks

The video I remember, where you showed transferring into a shower was in the other bathroom and you transferred into a tub/shower. I think you said that you did your toilet routine in your bathroom and showered in the other bathroom.

I wish I could say that I have great home modifications, but I don't. I have lifts on the stairs (inside and outside) and a shower chair, and that's it for mobility equipment. We haven't modified our house at all other than the bathroom and taking out the carpet. My house actually sucks for accessibility. Wow, Brittney, you do that transfer so smoothly, minus the little hiccup getting back in your chair the first time. Didn't look like too big of deal though. I really love the bathroom reno!! It seems to have opened things up quite a bit. Joe did a wonderful job. It's so nice to have someone in the family who is good at doing those jobs.... I'm still terrified to make a transfer that far but in time with proper upper body exercise I know I could get strong enough to do it. You're so right though, it is a good thing to not modify your home too much to eliminate any challenge. The first apartment I moved into from my parents home was completely modified for a person in a wheelchair, it was really nice but was overkill. It almost felt like a health care facility. There were so many features I would never need or use, not to mention all those modifications costs so much money. I personally use a commode in my bathroom as it is way more maneuverable than my wheelchair. I get slid over top of the toilet to do my bowel routine and then transfer onto a padded bath transfer bench from the commode to take my shower. It seems to work fine for me at this point.

Hi Britteny. I can see you have confidence in making the transfer between your wheelchair and shower, the main thing is you may have slipped but regained control immediately. Is it harder to transfer when you are wet and slippery? Is it possible to use a strap and triangle, (like a coat hanger on a string, just for visual reference of course) mounted above and central to the shower ceiling to grab hold of and swing between your wheelchair and shower seat? 🤗 🐨 🦘🦘 💖
