I'm lucky to be one of the first people to hear this wonderful tune. Then i might be at an advantage, because I was the programmer of the game. I think there was more than one version, was a while ago. I need to check the source code to check.. Rob Indeed did wonders with the SID chip. And the CPU raster time to have during game play was not possible with the sprite multiplexor.
I bought this game when it was released on cassette, it received maximum reviews on a Finnish gaming magazine, 10 10 10 graphics coding music... it was smooth like anything Stavtos Fasoulas did, congratulations - you did amazing job.
Thank you for bringing me hours of enjoyment as a kid. My friend had this game. We played the crap out of it. I will always love the C-64. So ahead of it's time in every way.
Very happy to hear this. I just looked at the source code, and I can't find if I made a cheat, seems was not. plus it was 1987 so memory little flakey even with the code in front unsure of it!!!
Looks like we have a room full of people who all happen to be programmers and who all just happen to have worked on this game... What are the chances of that?
You have no idea how long time i have been searching for this, i recorded this onto a tape and was listening to it over and over again, my parents were pulling thier hairs out. Still thinks its a cool tune.
This was one of the few games EVER to score full 10 / 10 / 10 (game, graphics, sound) in a legendary computer magazine Mikrobitti in Finland back in the day of release. Another one I remember reaching that achievement was Bionic Commando.. and Amiga's Cadaver. Oh well, anyways!
I admire how this composer would create musical narratives evocative of the games narrative. This piece combines powerfulness, relentlessness and sadness.
Rob Hubbard=Pure talent. His tunes shapened my music taste. I believe his compositions will linger in my brain even when I will be 80 and unable to remember my own name. Influential+unforgettable. Commando, International Karate, Nemesis the Warlock and many others... This guy is a genius.
I never played any Commodore 64 games nor did I grow up in the 80's (I was born in 1994) but I like the music. If you like electronic music in general this might be up your alley.
+In lulz we trust 2015 I think it's just kind of an infectious sound that transcends time. The SID Chip inside the C64 was very unique and still is used today in electronic music. We had a Commodore 128 back in the 80s so I grew up on this sound.
If this is your thing check out the HVSC (high voltage SID collection) It has every C64 SID tune ever made pretty much, and more added with every update (about every six months or so) because people are still making tunes for the C64 via demos and whatnot) Just make sure you have a player that's capable of playing SID tunes (or download one of the many SID players on the HVSC website if you want to play SUBTUNES as many game sids have subtunes.
Back "in the day", I recorded this and other Rob Hubbbard zax to cassettte tape so I could listen to them while plying the streets in and near downtown Seattle WA. USA where I lived at the time. Great shit!!! 😀
Amazing tune. Considering HOW Rob Hubbard created his songs on the C64, it's just incredible. Recommend every fan of his music to do some research about the man himself! Pure genious! :)
I know this music from my childhood.I still love it and I am still amazed at the level of inspiration and skill that went into creating this astonishing music. In addition, anyone who was seriously programming the CMB64 in the assembly language acknowledges the almost magical abilities of the machine.I started programming it in 87 when I was 16 and all the time I'd come across new ways of pushing the envelope of this great machine through demos and games. It was a truly exciting time in my life.
I Remember playing this game on and off back in the 80s. I never quite figured out how to proceed from one level to the next, but i liked the animations which where actually good at the time, and the dark setting. These elaborate HUDs/UIs were rare back then aswell, which gave it some unique flavor. I never waited around long enough on the title screen to appreciate this song though. Started the game within 10 secs, everytime. I am glad i found this now, the song was so much better than i imagined, once you get into it. Epic nostalgic memory for me, this game.
I was going to comment on this tune, having juts blundered into it, only to discover I already did. This time I was gong to say how there's a thread running through this piece combining the ideas of both what a colossal responsibility and what an immense tragedy it is to be a creature that just kills all its life. There's no real good and evil to it, it's just it's purpose. There's also refrain which suggests this isn't such a bad life when you think about it. A truly beautiful piece of music.
Conocí esta obra de arte por un instalador que contenía un remix de esta canción, luego de escucharla decidí buscar la original y uff escuchar esto en la época del C64 en todo su esplendor debió ser un orgasmo para los oídos
played this game the cover creeped me out and the high sound tata tatata when something came up out of soldiers body hahah. Lol i was 10 years or so...omg so many memories...and the sound tracks at that time...sublime.
I remember loading up this game just to listen to the theme music. Still sounds great. C64 was a great little machine, and Rob Hubbard ruled it's audioscape!
Music was programmed into the game after the main code was poked in, and depending on how much was left they really had to go out of their way to make it fit. But you are right about the positions, I think Hubbard was mostly left with 10K at most :)
if i play the game in the 80's, you only hear about 20 seconds then you start the game. one time i left the room and hear the rest of the song from the distance...epic - i love it!!
@brewcakes Not even 1.44 megs. As I recall, this game took less than half of a Commodore 1541 diskette... which only held 170 kb. That was back in the days when the focus was on gameplay, not on "Ooh, look at what I can do with a $400 video card, 4 gigs of RAM, and 15 gigs of hard drive space." Also, publishers were more willing to experiment with a new franchise instead of throwing out sequel after sequel.
I listened to this on SIDPlayer (iPhone) and it creeped me out; The main reason it does is becaues that warbling sound sounds like a 16-bit effect, instead of an 8-bit one, imo! Also the character depicted in the featured cover, looks lots like the MDK main character.
I downloaded an excellent remix by I don't know who, but anyway it captured the whole essence of "Nemesis the Warlock" Great music for driving, exercising or whatever
I was born In 1984, but not before now. I have started to play C64 and amiga games. I sure have missed out alot on the good stuff! but at least Im back on the right track now ;)
This is my all time favourite C64 music. Shame the game was utter tripe. I used to load this just to listen to the music. Now I can load the sid file directly on my real C64 using the 1541U+ :-) Happy days,
Really nice modern remix if you google for nemesis the warlock o2 ...and just follow the links. Starts off sounding like it's going to be too soft and underplayed, but then kicks it up a gear for a blistering second half. I liked it so much I put it on my iPod!

Michael Archer
I was a 64 programmer too.
I lived how the cadavers would pile up on each other. I take it they were characters?
Looks like we have a room full of people who all happen to be programmers and who all just happen to have worked on this game... What are the chances of that?
You have no idea how long time i have been searching for this, i recorded this onto a tape and was listening to it over and over again, my parents were pulling thier hairs out. Still thinks its a cool tune.
I was also doing the same bro ! Greetings from Poland
It was, it is and it will be cool tune. Greetings from Finland.
A legendary 2000AD comic book tie-in on the Commodore 64 😺👍🕹️.
And an excellent music 🎵🎶 from
Rob Hubbard 😺👍.
Note - play this song when you're reading comics about Nemesis, it fits very well.

yeees thats rhe reason i love it my life
This is an amazing 8 bit evocation of the mad, dour universe of Nemesis. Could not have been more perfect with later technology.
Despite there being no nostalgia filter on the song for me, I still love it. It's simply amazing!
Best. Theme. Ever.
Thanks to this theme, I'm now a Nemesis the Warlock fan.
I feel like Hubbard's music is the only reason that many of these games are remembered at all. Same goes for a few of his contemporaries.
Oh you're leaving out so many others :) Late ubercomposer, Mr Daglish? T. Follin? Galway, Steve Turner (AlleyKat), Etc. Etc.
I have to agree with you here, sure if the Speccy or Amstrad have the sid chip, there would have been a lot more classic games around haha
@@mixchief and Jochen Hippel aka Mad Max
Beauty that surpassed all time and space.

idk it sounds like progressive rock or metal to me man. at least thats why i like the song.
One of the most underrated C64 games, IMO.
I wasn't as interested in the actual game than I was in the zax. 😀
really dark tune, i love this. one of my favourite game tunes
Remember loading the game back in the day simply to hear the music.
SID still awesome!
One of the very best ever.
9 people are minions of Torquemeda.
"Let's face it; you can't Torquemeda anything!"
An underrated comment. Lol
BE PURE! BE VIGILANT! BEHAVE!
Back "in the day", I recorded this and other Rob Hubbbard zax to cassettte tape so I could listen to them while plying the streets in and near downtown Seattle WA. USA where I lived at the time. Great shit!!! 😀
The distant, far-off year of 2000 A.D.
I wonder what it'll be like.
I'm sure it will have nothing to do with N-Sync
And the comic magazine 2000 A.D. is still with us… It hasn't even changed its name...
Hopefully better then the 41st millennium
One of my all time favourite C64 tracks.
Powerful, evocative music as befits the legacy of Nemesis. Great stuff! :)
this track just keeps on giving!
Amazing tune. Considering HOW Rob Hubbard created his songs on the C64, it's just incredible. Recommend every fan of his music to do some research about the man himself! Pure genious! :)
Same here, I bought this game for Hubbard's music.
Great Hubbard classic, some moments of genius sprinkled throughout

One of my all-time favourites.
Nice music again by Rob Hubbard, genius!
Thx for the game and more importantly, some music CODEX

Masterpiece

This , along with Spellbound are my favourite Rob Hubbard tunes.
Got both tunes on my iPod along with multiple remixes.
James Rolfe the Nintendo Nerd has got to review this game.
played this game the cover creeped me out and the high sound tata tatata when something came up out of soldiers body hahah. Lol i was 10 years or so...omg so many memories...and the sound tracks at that time...sublime.
Chiptune era is an endless vein of hidden gems.
I remember loading up this game just to listen to the theme music. Still sounds great.
C64 was a great little machine, and Rob Hubbard ruled it's audioscape!
Just heard Shriekback's 'Nemesis' on SomaFM again and every time I am reminded of this game.
I have a slightly sped up version on cassette somewhere. Got it through some old school hackers of 64 music. Great tune!
I think I want this to be played on my funeral.
What a great C64 conversion of (in parts) the soundtrack from "The Long Good Friday". :)
Music was programmed into the game after the main code was poked in, and depending on how much was left they really had to go out of their way to make it fit. But you are right about the positions, I think Hubbard was mostly left with 10K at most :)

used to love this game
Be Pure!
Be Vigilant!
Behave!!
Hero. And I mean Rob.
A classic off, and I feel the origin of the Unicorn Medley for Transformers the Movie.
Epic and nostalgic track.
The game was hard as balls. I never could beat the 4 or 5 stage, i couldn't find the damned exit lol.
I could loop this forever... Just marvellous!
Rob Hubbard, Jeroen Tel and Chris Huelsback
It's too late to apologize...
Now you cannot unhear it. You're welcome. ^_~
All hail the mighty SID!! and ALL HAIL SIR ROB HUBBARD!!!
Toute la musique de mon adolescence, trop bons souvenirs et toujours un Rob Hubbard incomparable ^^
for some weird reason this song makes me feel sad.
But at the same time I adore it.
It sounds even more epic with a bit of EQ, filter and reverb :)
Genius.
The sound of the zombies being blasted by the heavy gun was truly awesome!

Awesome tune. One of Hubbard's best, alongside One Man AHD, Monty on the Run, Zoids and Master of Magic.
the O2 remix is fabulous
Thx for sharing !
Written by Aliens. No human being can compose such a masterpiece! ^^
Awesome track!
No problem! Glad you like it.
With 3 channels, he made magic!
Holy hell. I have no idea if the game itself is any good... but this tune alone makes it worth buying. Even almost 25 years on.
6:00 is one of my fave parts. Awesome final sequence.
4:20 onwards is where it turns into an absolute banger IMO.
Absolutely
1:01 This bit is in a *_LOT_* keygens from over the years...
C64 still alive! Musik zum träumen...
nemesis.... what a badass....
Codex installer xD
+thelordmadson I'm TROLFBI, I have a digital search warrant under the probable cause that you're downloading pirated games ileggaly.
+Nihilanth Non Serviam YOU SHALL NEVER CATCH ME!!!! woop woop woop woop *runs away like zoidberg
Oh dam reading this and with the music is intense. The hunt is on, is he still freely roaming this cybernetic sea or has his luck ran out.
And from over the horizon he can hear the faint sounds "woop woop woop woop"
Omg, he came back, lol
Rob rules!!!
Great track.
Love this music!
I listened to this on SIDPlayer (iPhone) and it creeped me out; The main reason it does is becaues that warbling sound sounds like a 16-bit effect, instead of an 8-bit one, imo!

AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I downloaded an excellent remix by I don't know who, but anyway it captured the whole essence of "Nemesis the Warlock"

i agree..great memories
Rob Hubbard is a legend!!!!
WARHAMMER Fantasy Battles + Judge Dredd + Nemesis The Warlock= WARHAMMER 40,000
Black hole sun, won't you come...
Only drunken lullaby by Rob Hubbard that was gently interrupted by the police.
They liked it as it sounded on a street.
One of the best tunes from a computer game ever
Wauw, I loved this game (and musik) when I was 15 :-)
so cool
Rob Hubbard is GOD
when the music is better than the game, the talent is obvious
Pure adrenaline!!!
This is my all time favourite C64 music. Shame the game was utter tripe. I used to load this just to listen to the music. Now I can load the sid file directly on my real C64 using the 1541U+ :-) Happy days,
They didn't even know how EPIC this would sound in like 30 or mb more years
Great!
this is in my opinion the first c64 games to have good music
Really nice modern remix if you google for
nemesis the warlock o2
...and just follow the links.
Starts off sounding like it's going to be too soft and underplayed, but then kicks it up a gear for a blistering second half. I liked it so much I put it on my iPod!
sick game was so weird when i played it at 10 yrs old...badass sick impossible game tho...lol..good music
There is soul inside this music masterpiece. You can't find it in todays game music.
vidura in installation fallout 4 by rg freedom you will hear that music
