I think the thing with Tom is, his voice is incredibly unique and one that works VERY well with autotune. Since enema of the state tom's used autotune, and that's what we're so used to. His voice is very robotic due to his nasally way of singing, and the effects he uses on his voice totally complement it. I feel like that's why it's so painful to hear him suck live, but it's also super exciting to hear him kill it live. He possesses a sound we all crave.

I think he often uses a Chorus or a Flanger effect in combination with a bit of reverb...that's propably what most people say is autotune, although most people don't know autotune can't be used live...

drklenk Actually, autotune can be used live, and it is used in a lot of pop acts today. I agree with you on saying that Tom does not use it live, but what most people don't realize is that there are always effects on the vocals in major live productions

its a characteristic punk thing to slur lyrics. Tom sort of brought it more main stream and into rock and punk pop. Billie Joe Armstrong does it as well, Tim Armstrong of Rancid isn't even understandable with the way he slurs lyrics.

To all the people saying he's not using auto-tune, you're wrong - he is. Auto-tune is a real-time pitch correction plugin and it is quite obvious it's being applied to the vocals during the chorus. Doesn't make the song any less awesome though.
