Greatest bands of all time. Well for some us. I grew up with blink….but AVA just means….more. The war imaginary. I’ve listened to this song while walking Normandy beach. It’s just so anthemic in a way many don’t understand.
listen to Against Me! or Laura's solo thing called Laura Grace and the Devouring Mothers. he shreds the skins in both. there's also the old Rocket From The Crypt tapes. he's not gone.....just doin something different. def worth your time.
Angels and Airwaves could definitely fill arenas and stadiums with songs like this!

That's right man. I cannot imagine what an experience would be to listen to these songs with a crowd of ~30k people around you, all singing along the vocal less choruses... MAGIC.
@@gordman6432 he sounds awesome here because he has a pitch correction mic being filmed with high quality equipment in a small area.. Would love if he continued to have this setup for future shows that we could have watched
carlippo182 Jokes on you my man. Those guitars you're hearing on the chorus and big parts are the guitar tracks from the album. I agree though his actual guitar sound here is better than his vox tone. Also all of those Mesa cabinets on stage are for show. Tom and David's tone for this is coming from four main pieces of gear. A Marshall JMP-1 preamp, a Mesa boogie triaxis preamp, a Marshall power amp, and palmer speaker simulators. No cabs on stage are pushing air or miked up.
the end jam from 7:12 on is so fucking awesome. Tom improvises so good as he always has and that pickslide too. so cool. he's by no means a flashy and intricate guitar player but he knows how to improvise and write catchy rocking riffs
Such an underrated band. Love this song. Really glad this has less than 10 dislikes in 7 years. Nice to see people appreciate this one live. Fantastic performance!
"I don't wanna go home! All of us are gonna go home and watch fucking David Letterman or something. It's gonna be quiet, it's gonna be weird. Or we could stay here all night and live, right?" -Tom Delonge
i've seen him live, actually with blink, and he sounded really good. i think he definitely has off nights, especially with blink he just doesn't care that much. but when he actually does try, he sounds really good. there are other videos of tom where he sounds immaculate, just like this one. you just gotta look. also this was a competition so he was probably trying the best he possibly could because he wanted to win
Late comer. Never really listened to Angels & Airwaves. Heard a song here and there but never caught on. Was a big Blink fan back in the day, so I don't know why I never listened. Until I went to a recent AVA concert. HOLY CRAP. A religious experience. Can't get enough of them. Thanks for this video!
Atom is the greatest drummer to watch and listen to. EVER. Always on beat, always the beat, precise & clean. Good performance otherwise. I never expect great vocals, because I don't give a shit, they're all outstanding musicians regardless.
@@mot3824 i dont think so. Dont get me wrong Skiba is the sh*t at what he does, but Tom is much better. Compare anything Skiba has written and sang against Tom. Tom blows him out of the water.
EighthDayBroken well, this was still early on in AvA..he was probably drunk or even if he wasn't..people sing differently to make the performance different because they're on tour. I'd do the same thing because singing the same song the same way over and over the same way would get boring haha plus he kills the "oooooo" parts, he's actually in tune a lot and proves himself
He's actually really good at this performance. He may be drunk, but at least he's confident about himself. I like his own style of singing and have seen some of his performances which are a lot worse. 😀 Go for it, Tom
Thats how he sings. Thats how majority of live concerts go with any singer. They never sound the same live. They sing different tones live vs when they record albums.
i luv the ending. thats whats music's about, never wanting to stop, sticking with your crowd and seeing those damn flashing lights. i would give everything up just to be able to see those flashing lights and the crowd with their arms in the air singing back. i only wish i could make such majestic music like angels and airwaves
what a performance!. wished I was there for this one! tom is giving his heart out here. and im sure it sounded 100x more amazing if you were actually there.
Matt plays with the pick for most of the song as you can see him strumming down on the strings. At the end of the vid/performance he's using his fingers. It's good to see that. I think the old bassist Ryan Sinn was a way better bass player. He had such diverse amazing sounds and he uses to pluck the strings. He definitely shaped the debut. Matt came in for the 2nd and it sounded almost Blink 182 type bass. Obviously Mark is better but I'm not a fan of Matt's playing. Its somewhat simple
Well yeah,to sing and play a difficult bassline its hard i know, but i do play bass and sing when im with my band, and believe, blink has no really difficult basslines,so its kinda easy to match both. But for example,I cant play a red hot chili peppers song and sing at the same, but in punk-rock basslines are usually not so hard.
I'm glad u agree. You totally need talent to play a good bass line and sing. That's like matching rhythm with trying to remember the lyrics and singing. It's harder than it looks. I play guitar which is not as rhythmical as bass obviously and there's some song I learnt to play where it's not easy to sing and play at the same time.
I totally agree. But you dont need a lot of talent to play and sing at the same time, tho. But yeah, mark's a better bassist than matt. He gives the bass a special feeling,he has a lot of taste to play it,matt is just an average bass player,i dont see anything impressive there. Mark sounds way better live.
dont get me wrong cuz i freaking love angels and airwaves..but with music in general today..i hate how just because they're famous everyone loves them live even when the singing sucks. say what u want but if you have ears you'll notice how terrible the singing is. but anyway...rock on ava!

No way Mark is way better. For 1 thing Mark sings and plays bass at the same time which takes a lot of talent and Mark has a much better sound of his instrument. He's also more educated. Like I say as well Ryan was better than Matt too.
Congrats on your #1 Rock album, "The Dream Walker," Angels & Airwaves! Remember this gem you played for us at #DrumOff? #fbf bit.ly/1E4rD0Q
If the world listened to AvA, just everyone for 3 minutes, there WOULD be world peace. This shit is holy.
IF anyone would take aderol...everyone would have connections to the Alien-High-Society!
3 minutes of world peace.
Lmao n1mand I hear that
If everyone takes DMT there will be world peace
when they were making we dont need to whisper tom said that god came down from heaven to write the songs
Still watching/listening in 2020
Right there with you!
2024?
2024
This is the best version of the song in my opinion.
Ten years later I wanted to say yes ❤ but the other big version from 2006 is so dope too
After I clean up the mess in my pants I'm gonna watch this again
LMFAO!!!!
Isaac Cooke lol
@@HermittheLog no life
Isaac Cooke who pooped in your pants?
Atom is a fantastic drummer.
i think he was the drummer for the offspring for a while
He’s one of my favorites
Definitely better imo IIan Rubin. Yes i understand he played for Nine Inch Nails but you can’t beat Atoms play style.
I'm just here because I'm about to see Angels and Airwaves live again in October 2019!!!! :)
Sept 2019 here!
JohnDrives same here! In Anaheim! I’m super excited
September 2019 for me! Can't get here soon enough!
Same!!! Charlotte, here I come!!!! :)
Detroit!
God i absolutely love the silent choruses during these live versions!! it makes it seem so powerful!!
4:15 Tom goes metal.
I hope an AVA album in aerian metal
I think I stand for all of us when I say this is one of the greatest songs of all time.
Sit back down then.
Yup
I strongly agree
His out of time vocals ruin it but it’s still a great song

I owe this audio engineer a high five. Wow this sounds incredible.
I miss atom !

I know U2 can
they would honestly be a great stadium band
This is the best. I still watching in 2019 :')
2021:D
Still watching it in 2024
2024 still 🔥🔥
Oh my..This man knows what he does..Tom,thanks for everything, bro.Inspiration as a musician and more important,as a person.
Fuck yeah,he rocks..
I'm pretty sure my favorite part of this song live is just listening to the vocalless chorus'.
at 4:05 you can somewhat hear the Tom we all know peaking through...he sounded good there
he sounds good the entire song
Most of his singing sounds like he doesn’t even try anymore.
@@gordman6432 he sounds awesome here because he has a pitch correction mic being filmed with high quality equipment in a small area.. Would love if he continued to have this setup for future shows that we could have watched
His Mesa amps sounds so powerful. Wish he'd still use them.
+carlippo182 Was just thinking the same thing, Mesa's really made his sound better. His Vox sound sucks.
+TheLast1100 Tom's decisions get worse with age
somehow his more recent solo sound ("new world" for example) is way better...

I'm so depressed .. but this.. this helps.
best speech ever. "Why are you so quiet? Push your arms in the air!"
drklenk this performance was awesome but the crowd was so weak.
they don't english
His imperfect tone of voice is a plus
Not really lol
pretty garbage if you ask me hahaha even Tom seemed pretty disappointed in this one.
I'll always keep on saying that Angels & Airwaves was the best thing that could've ever happened to Tom.
Tom Delonge is my favorite musician on the planet hands down.
Such an underrated band. Love this song. Really glad this has less than 10 dislikes in 7 years. Nice to see people appreciate this one live. Fantastic performance!

His Drum-Off performances were the best

I don't think its about trying. It's about some nights your voice is on, and some nights your voice is off. He might benefit from some voice training.
182420 views. Blink blaze it!
Tom is and always will be life 😍
I Empire 10th anniversary Tour! make it happen 😀🙏🤘
I really enjoy watching ATOM skills playing the drum set
tom love his pickslides
Just leaving a comment here, so in 20 years i'll know that i listened to epic music
10 years ago, Jeez. Unbelievable live performance.
It's 2022 - and I'm seeing them in Berlin in March

Raw and real. Tom is the only one able to put his real voice on stage. No filters unless the song calls for it
Lol true but it’s so god awful. So much whining but that’s Tom

ATOOOOOOOOOOMMMM. pleas comeback :D
i love it when he said good night at the end part. awesome!!!
I could seriously watch this 1000 times

How can you make this song .. I am one of your fans from Indonesia .. hopefully you'll be back on the stage soon
never again was there drumming like this. some good stuff on their second album, then it went away.... can you guess why?
This is such a great performance. Love it love it love it. AVA is the best
the vocal bridge is the most amazing thing i have ever heard
Atom Willard just rocks!!!!
they have such a HUGE sound live, for their style of music thats crazy!

Sounds like a bit of Certain Shade of Green by Incubus. Haha.
I love him so much oh my god
