Tom needs to be autotuned, not just because he can't sing, but it adds to the "spacey" atmosphere in the music. He obviously uses autotune in the studio, so why not live? It's not cheating, it's just part of their sound.
Atom left just after Love Part 2 was released, because of musical differences, i think! This was the statement he put out after it was announced. "It's been a great six years and I feel privileged to have worked with these musicians I call my friends. While I will miss them, it is an amicable split and I look forward to this next chapter in my life. I truly wish the guys much success in the future."
Atom wanted to be in a full time band, with Tom splitting his time in between AVA and Blink didn’t work for Atom, so Ilan had lunch with Tom one day, and that’s basically how he became their drummer, who is great but the way Atom played is what made AVA
That's funny because A LOT of big/small bands use playback on certain levels. Just because they use playback for certain tracks does not mean they can't do it for real.
As you can here in all of the songs, they're running backing tracks. This includes a lot of things, like the vocals you're referencing. The backing tracks in this performance is way to loud. The sound is also terrible. Matt's mic is also clearly not on. He is doing the lower octave.
He voice sounds perfect in the studio so he is surely aware of these things. In live shows though, the quality of his voice does seem to take a big hit. But, this applies across the board with most singers and vocalists, in my opinion. I am a huge fan too and I love his work. He is a genius to me. His music has been a blessing in my life.
I was there. I remember going specifically for them. I have been a big AvA fan since it’s beginning but god damn was this show just a fucking tragedy. I don’t care how big a fan you claim to be. Just take one listen to their “Adventure” performance and I bet you in clear conscience can’t say that it sounded remotely okay. If you can, then congratulations you sheeple. Continue being a blind “fan” while the rest of us demand better from a band that we know can do better.
tom's voice changes from gig to gig, depending on how much hes been drinking, and what mood he is in. i saw them when they played in the UK and on that night he was simply god like, almost perfect all the way through
I know this comment was a long time ago but I think sometimes him getting sick can really affect, in a 2013 performance with blink at KROQ, he said he was sick the last two times he played so I think he was referring to this as one of them. You can kinda tell he's sick by his voice too
Broadcast mixes are usually total shit. When you get well mixed broadcast mix of a live act it is to be celebrated! This probably would be amazing if it was mixed well
The way he moves on stage and variates his voice was the most captivating thing to me when I saw him live.. I'm very lucky I got to see him live, he's like Michelangelo making masterful art every performance
I agree with you, but even when Tom falls short I see the reality of it, he puts on a damn good show and is there to share what he loves no matter what.
CMIIW but i think it has became his trademark. i mean his voice. and honestly i feel comfort with his '2 different vocal styles in 2 different bands' :)
Atom left. He joined Social Distortion for a bit and now plays with Danko Jones. I think Ilan was mentored by Barker. He's played with Lostprophets and Nine Inch Nails before. Really good drummer.
I actually do understand, and recently I've become a a pretty decent AVA fan. Understanding and appreciating how amazing one band is has nothing to do with preferring another band over it.
I just got into AVA, I got there first record I don't think the beginning tune was on it but I've heard it before. What is that song at the first song they played here called.
I agree I heard he was sick for this show so that explains some of it. I know Ilan has helped tom with his vocals too a little bit. Im just curious to see how tom would sing if he took professional vocal lesosns like some big artists do. I know he prolly doesnt think he needs it cuz he is Tom Delonge but if you listen to his other live work he does need some help with his vocal chords and hitting certain notes. Being more relaxed in the throat is key for smooth lyrics n he struggles with that.
If you're a fan of AVA you should check out the band Like Tides. They have a live hd video of one of their shows with Asking Alexandria at woolys. The drummer proposes on stage in front of 1,000 screaming people after the second song.
Matt is playing bass David is playing guitar Tom is singing They want to be ready for their parts and it's much easier for the synth to be set up next to the drums so Ilan can play both no problem. I don't even know why you are asking such a stupid question because really it doesn't matter.
0:06 -Saturday Love, 4:19 -It Hurts, 8:34 -Surrender, 13:06 -The Adventure, 18:27 -Everything's Magic, 22:20 -Anxiety, 28:32 -The War
Tom delonge don't create music, he create's magic!
you right !
Tom needs to be autotuned, not just because he can't sing, but it adds to the "spacey" atmosphere in the music. He obviously uses autotune in the studio, so why not live? It's not cheating, it's just part of their sound.
+Kristian Dobson but the issue is, autotune is an algorithm for relative pitch, so it would not work because tom is literally 1-2 semitones off pitch.
So true you gotta love the raw sound. But Sometimes I think it's the guy behind the mixing board.
at 6:07 u can see david broke a string then a bit after he has a different guitar. that was pretty smooth
0:06 -Saturday Love
4:19 -It Hurts
8:34 -Surrender
13:06 -The Adventure
18:27 -Everything's Magic
22:20 -Anxiety
28:32 -The War

One of the better AVA performances on UA-cam. Love this band!
Tom really loves performing Everything's Magic, he always sounds good singing it and jumps around like a little kid :)
It's funny how Matt sounds exactly like Tom when singing "It Hurts"... #playback
ava and blink, dont do playback...
Topedro Fernandes
That's why you hear synths and don't see anybody playing them. Right.
But exist difences in sound to better
That's funny because A LOT of big/small bands use playback on certain levels. Just because they use playback for certain tracks does not mean they can't do it for real.

Wow Matt’s backing vocals in it hurts are great he does a great job supporting Tom there
If you think Tom sounds bad here, you havent seen any other performances of him. Hes actually very good here in my opinion.
He voice sounds perfect in the studio so he is surely aware of these things. In live shows though, the quality of his voice does seem to take a big hit. But, this applies across the board with most singers and vocalists, in my opinion. I am a huge fan too and I love his work. He is a genius to me. His music has been a blessing in my life.
thanks man !
I love how his voice is now from being back in blink. Sounds amazing!
This is his way of singing live and i love it
This was really good! Good job Tom.
I love this band...definitely digging the new drummer
Tom actually sounds alright here, for a change.
Ilans drum solo made my testies explode! And Tom sounds pretty Damned good if I do say so myself.
Yes it’s my favourite song by angels&airwaves I love everything’s magic
Me too, i wasn't expecting much out of him at the time because i'd seen shows like this on UA-cam, but i was very impressed.
i like their 2006-2008 performances better...but they are still the best band in the world (Blink is alright but ive fallen more on the AvA side)
uploaded on my birthday :)

Matt's vocals in the chorus were at the very top of his vocal range. Really tough to sing those notes strongly.
Was at this show - sounded way better live than what they recorded here. Everything is mixed/mic'd unevenly on here
Broadcast mixes are usually total shit. When you get well mixed broadcast mix of a live act it is to be celebrated!
This probably would be amazing if it was mixed well
I swear Tom never plays a guitar in anxiety but he is here hum that’s me gone bonkers for life
i love the guitar that david uses with the wheel on it
I love the rotating stage that’s cool
The reason tom sounds so good on the record is because he uses EXTREME compression, his compressor literally costs 2000!
Angels&airwaves are awesome
i love the Matt'solo in The Adventure and when he sing "it hurts" ;)
Wow this is a great drum solo from Ilan he’s a great drummer
The way he moves on stage and variates his voice was the most captivating thing to me when I saw him live.. I'm very lucky I got to see him live, he's like Michelangelo making masterful art every performance
I love surrender it’s such an emotional song
【my memo】

mudança radical nas letras dos aneis 182 o tempo passou tão depressa e eu fiquei stuck in the moment!!!!!!
That's true, I totally respect your point, and you're right. He sounds a LOT better now.
love them!!
Tom at 8.36 is awesome!!!
he was also recovering from being very sick during this performance but other than that i agree with you
Tom's voice is magic.
relic of the past....
I agree with you, but even when Tom falls short I see the reality of it, he puts on a damn good show and is there to share what he loves no matter what.
This is bad ass go tom
I MISS YOU DELONGE OLD :C
Bravo Tom`ek - w końcu jesteś sobą na scenie.
i agree, ive seen blink and ava live both. even though ava was right after the break up they both were amazing and blink was 2012 in the summer!
Toms blue guitar looks fricken sweet!!!!
Saturday Love
It's sad to see how his voice has ended.
the way he looks when he sings with out his guitar
THEY WERE AMAZING AT READING :)
belieeeve i wanteeeeeee
his voice is improving :3
Angels&airwaves wouldn’t be who they are without performing the adventure really it’s their debut single
I enjoyed it
ya they are touring in Australia right now
CMIIW but i think it has became his trademark. i mean his voice. and honestly i feel comfort with his '2 different vocal styles in 2 different bands' :)
Atom left. He joined Social Distortion for a bit and now plays with Danko Jones.
I think Ilan was mentored by Barker. He's played with Lostprophets and Nine Inch Nails before. Really good drummer.
Didn't Ilan also do Paramore to and he can also play different instruments to not just the drums
I love how they started with Saturday love a song from their love album not sure it’s from part 1 or 2 but I know it’s from one of those albums
It’s the first song from Love Part 2
@@jacksonroberts9276 thanks
AWESOMEawesome
I actually do understand, and recently I've become a a pretty decent AVA fan. Understanding and appreciating how amazing one band is has nothing to do with preferring another band over it.
yeah I know, they probably came back later to see who they want to see but like you said, some people don't realize good music when they hear it, ha.
I like tom’s combo amp set up
I just got into AVA, I got there first record I don't think the beginning tune was on it but I've heard it before. What is that song at the first song they played here called.
for me tom it sounds good here
Tom's busting out dance moves xD
lovin toms new guitar designs way better than the burnt striped ones
I think hes sounds great!
Tom, I love u
well...technically if its the afternoon, its nighttime
I agree I heard he was sick for this show so that explains some of it. I know Ilan has helped tom with his vocals too a little bit. Where can you buy a shirt that Tom is wearing?
WTF Tom stole my dance moves from my first school dance in the 7th grade! On an up note. The Drummer in this band is really fucking good!
i dont care of his voice in live, all i know is, he is so cool performer, and song writer !!! :-)
Cool man 😎
but he getting better
i saw him with blink in frankfurt, germany
and it was great
where Tom falls short on live singing, he makes up with superior song writing.
He has I saw Blink in February and it is wayyyy better than it is in this video.
Sometimes I wonder what Angels and Airwaves would be like with a fantastic singer that could hit and hold the notes... and was female.
If the volumes were better set we wouldn't be arguing 'bout his singing.. I mean WTF, his voice volume is WAY pumped up!
he got better as the show went on haha
Thats kind great but god I miss Atom
thats awesome :) it was the dublin o2 on june 12th :) got front row, changed the way i see blink forever :) how about you ???
Professionally trained singer here.
Backfire, bro. Backfire.
if u listen to the weenie roast from 2006 toms voice actually sounds good haha
he actually became sober now and got off of his drug addiction, and he sounds just like he did 10 years ago!
If you're a fan of AVA you should check out the band Like Tides. They have a live hd video of one of their shows with Asking Alexandria at woolys. The drummer proposes on stage in front of 1,000 screaming people after the second song.
...or nah
Asking alexandria suckss anyways lol
Blinks good live now:) tom is back to his old self
hahaah tom's stage presence is hilarious on the songs where he doesn't play guitar! hah. classic.
That was a sample.
Haha he kicks ass in blink now man. Look up more recent videos.. especially at the start of their sets..
I know! I saw some of the new soundwave 2013 vids!
Matt is playing bass
David is playing guitar
Tom is singing
They want to be ready for their parts
and it's much easier for the synth to be set up next to the drums so Ilan can play both no problem.
I don't even know why you are asking such a stupid question because really it doesn't matter.
Tom doesnt know what to do with his hands hahahha
Automatic Pitch Correction.
It would be a good investment.
yeah probably either that or how it was recorded
