    As much as I would love to make every video another Mr. Ed bee wrangling adventure, sometimes it's just not possible. At those times, I revert back to my first love, wood working, which still is VERY connected to wrangling bees because if there were no wooden ware, I would have no place to put all the bees that I wrangle. Also, I do know that there is a percentage of those that follow the channel are wood workers themselves, and one thing that all wood worker what to know, " how was that made."
    On this exciting video I give up the secrets and explain detailed, step by step, with special safety tips included, process on how to build an inner cover for a bee hive. So, sharpen those pencils to take good notes, click the start button, and get ready to watch and maybe learn a new trick you can apply in your own shop. God's peace to all.
    Mr. Ed

    My dad; God bless his soul; was blind, but he loved to work the wood, and he always took the chance to get me to help, and we used heavy tools, saws, nail guns, and all normal tools, but him being blind he also used them; he had Braille tools, so he could measure properly and place the stoppers on spot. We still use several furniture we made together over 20 years ago. Loved this episode because it reminded me of those days.

      What a wonderful story, thank you for sharing it with me. I am so happy that this video made you think of your dad. Your dad was way braver than me, I never would have attempted wood working if I was blind, and I did not know there were Braille tools. I will be posting another shop video next Friday if you are interested. Till then, thanks for watching and sharing your story. God bless you and your dad.

    Nifty framing jig you have there. I thought of you and your bee videos when I heard on the news about a house that had 80,000 bees in it here in Missouri. The radio newscaster said the homeowner was amazed that the bees could have built a such a big hive in such a short time in the walls of their house and I remembered all the places you have found bees. I never heard what they did with the bees, hope they moved them to a bee house. Blessings!

    When I was about 8 years old, my dad's youngest daughter I used to help him build flats for a florist, a side job my dad did so he could give my mom flowers for holidays and birthdays. I loved the smell of cut wood and sawdust. We used nails to keep them together. I love the way you always say, with the "Grace of God" etc. That is living Jesus everyday.

      I could give so many testimonies on how much Jesus has done in my life. I love Him above all else, even family. He is first. Through His Grace and Mercy I am His Child. So are you. We do not live to Christ to be on His good side as we already are there. We live to Christ because He loved us first. His love encompasses us and we can do nothing without His Grace. Bless you my brother in Christ.

    The woodshop is beautiful and it's amazing to watch how the "bee house" inner covers are created! Thanks for sharing - and great job! They look beautiful and the bees will be so happy there! Still lots more equipment to build before spring gets here, but with the use of the shop, it make the job so much easier. Our temps are in the 20's in the morning and hit the mid 40's during the day, perfect time to stay in a warm shop and build bee equipment. Wait till you see the upload on Friday, more bee equipment, but I use some of the really cool tools in the shop, I hope you watch and comment. I know it's lots colder in Chicago, so stay warm yourself. Thanks for watching. God's peace Laurie.

      Oh yeah, it's cold here in Chicago! We were having single digits for awhile, but it's up into the low 20's - so that is definitely better - but we're all bundling up - so all you see when you walk down the city sidewalks are sets of eyes and puffy jackets. ha ha - It's kind of funny. I am looking forward to the upload and seeing the cool equipment in your shop! I noticed some of it during your last video and was thinking, "what in the world is all of this stuff?" I love learning about new tools and how to use them! Thanks again for all of your amazing videos! Your energy is always so positive and I love learning about the lives of bees and all things of nature! Thanks again for all you do - you're a wonderful human being!
      Have a great week and God bless you! - Laurie

    There's a lot of satisfaction in making your own equipment. I did the same when I kept bees, even rolling my own wax. That way I knew I wasn't putting infected stuff into my hives. All the best from the UK.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  6 років тому

      The stuff I make is way better that what you can buy and it lasts twice as long. Just makes sense to me to build it myself, plus I really enjoy working in the shop doing it. I do the same with my wax. I give back to our bees what I took from their hive, and since I don't treat, it's all GOOD stuff. Thanks for watching and commenting, great comment. God's peace brother.

    Good morning Jeff. I must say that I am quite impressed with the Abby’s wood shop. I suppose if I got rid of some of the clutter in our shop it would somewhat approach the efficiency of the Abby wood shop. I wonder how much time you invested in your jigs to stream line your process. You have managed to eliminate “haste makes waste” and ensure that you meet the requirements of “measure twice and cut once. Well it’s time for a mug of tea to get my day started. Enjoy your weekend, GB. Kate

    A SHORT CUT IDEA FOR YOU??? - (great video, BTW!) The step you did at 3:12 on the radial saw - the first cuts - If you did the diagonal cuts at this point, rather than at 10:39 - Would this eliminate having to do the 800 cuts at the end? Also, it would waste less wood, because the initial cuts are at 45 degrees. (do one end, flip the board, and do the other side). So the cuts would look like this text representation: |x\. /. \. /. \x|. Where the 'x' are the end diagonal waste cutoffs (rather than:). what you have now for 10:39 which is |x\. /x| on every piece. Not sure if you'd need to, but maybe build another router push board jig with a 'v' notch cut out in the end to fit the new 45 degree pointed ends. - Peace be with you.

    Nice video , I truly enjoyed it , I come from several generation of wood working pro and Tradesman {Uncle got killed by a cable while hauling logs in the forest and my father from wood dust in the lungs}I do have two comments , yes it cost penny to the dollar to make , - Agreed , you have invested a lot in your tools , the large majority cannot afford such system . very few have a dust collector- Safety You are trained and experiencedThis make a whole lot of difference , as you are working with 2 of the most dangerous woodworking power tools , the third is the chain saw . combine they generate a lot of business for ER. - to anyone watching any of these video , please do keep only one thing in mind , My Father had a saying the blade is just looking and waiting for you to make that mistake , use wood with knots , cross grain , not properly dried and it will either shatter or pull your hands toward it and you will loose what ever is in the way , He experienced it lost thumb , little finger and split in half the ring finger , the shop was unheated and they lost the feeling resulting in injury , different era , same danger .- Always use the feather such as the one on the video , Never operate them if you are tired or distracted . EVER ! You can always make them tomorrow - This is the only reason I will say that paying for them is still cheaper as you cannot replace , eyes , fingers or hands . I love wood working , I have my own tool , yet I rather buy some of the profile to make them .How about making these as a Kit and sell them , You can Turn a nice profit .I would be the first one buying from you . Lot of beekeeper would too Once again very nice video ,

      No doubt, working with power tool can be deadly. Regardless of how long you hav been in the trade, you can be injured in the blink of an eye. Safety is always the first matter of concern along with a working knowledge of what the machines are capable of, go a long way in going home in one piece at the end of the day. I have been a woodworker for over 40 years now and still can't wait to get up in the morning and head to the shop. But no, the equipment I build for bee hives is only for me, I will never build to sell that. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

    I was ready for a fake finger amputation or nail in the finger lol. That’s a really cool workshop with the big dust collector and all. So you make coffins in there? Interesting. What do you do for the top exit/vent since that inner cover design doesn’t have a notch. Do you run spacers? You probably don’t have to feed sugar like folks further north. I hate paying for inner and telescoping covers. Not much to them and they are so expensive. I try to make my own bottom boards too. The solid versions. I buy the hive bodies. Those finger joints are a pain to cut and you don’t save a lot making those anyway, unless you have access to some free lumber. Cool video. Thanks! PS, you shouldn’t call Susan lazy, she might get mad.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  6 років тому +2

      I can't even joke about shop accidents, they are to real. Every morning when we say our work prayer, one of the petitions is for protection from bodily harm in the shop. It really is a nice shop, and I'm blessed to have access to it whenever I need to. I purposefully did not put exits on the lid as I don't want another entrance to the hive. When I put the third super on, I will drill a hole in the box to add the entrance. Then, I can always close it off when not needed. Because I run all screened bottom boards, the hives have enough cracks to have ventilation so humidity issues are not present. I do not feed them sugar in the hives, way to messy for me. Wait till next Friday when I show the telescopic cover video, you are going to love it. Great to hear from you Jerome. God's peace.

      All the work I do building equipment is for the sole use for the bees here at the abbey. I do not build to sell, I build to use for myself. Thanks for watching. God's peace Mary Kay.

      Tomasz, do you build you own equipment, or is it easy to find bee equipment in Poland? Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.

    Straight to the editing room, come on my friend 18 minute video to make an inner lid.

      Jeff Horchoff no no mate, should of been done in under 3 minutes. Check out Ishitani furniture, he builds a dinning table, bed or a side board without a word demonstrating his craftmanship with great camera work in the same time you took to build a lid.

    You don't like to staple your fingers or cut your fingers? Neither do I. I think we are in the majority, Mr. Ed. LOL Thanks for the good laugh.

      My fingers are VERY happy being attached to my hands, and I'm happy they are attached also. I'd love to keep that relation till I'm in one of our boxes. God's peace Sadie.

    Sweet job, Mr. Ed. Only question left is what is the relationship between you, Mr. Ed and Jeff Horchoff Bees?

    • @JeffHorchoff

      We are all the same person. The name "Mr. Ed" was given to me when I first started working at the Post Office 36 years ago. When I retired after 27 years, I liked it so much, I continued to call myself that. Then, when I started my UA-cam channel, that's what I decided to call myself. Thanks for watching. God's peace.

    Mr. Ed! Why is your channel titled Jeff? Love your videos.

      The last time I saw your name in the comment section was a long time ago, but I remember it because of LSU. Great to hear from you again. When I set my channel up, I knew zip about computers or UA-cam so I just put my name there. Now, it's to late to do anything about it, and I'm OK with that. Hope to see your name more often now that you've made contact. God's peace.
