The biggest problem in my mind is how black kids today who grew up in a good neighborhood, have/had access to a good education, have or will have access to employment, and have never gone hungry a day in their life will act like they know what it means to be oppressed because their ancestors may have been slaves. Then they will hate on white kids who dont have a racist bone in their body, as if they were the slave owners. Yes, it is absolutely important to know your history, but it is also important to keep it in perspective. Racism will never go away as long as there are people keeping it alive, and that goes for victims as well as victimizers.

Those are my ancestors. Not the Kings and Queens or Noblemen, but the average people just trying to survive.
What is truly sad is that most people still think that the mini-series: "Roots" was based on a true story. The only true part of that TV show was slavery and how bad it could be.
Dude for real on the Hollywood message movies. I always feel like I'm having my intelligence insulted whenever I see one of those things. It's like "Wow, love IS the most important thing! Wow, I SHOULD make more time for my kids! Wow, maybe racism IS bad!" What's crazy is that I got to see Alex Haley speak at my high school here in Alabama. Then he finds out his relatives were from a plantation here called the Forks of Cypress, here in the very northwest corner of Alabama. He then comes out with a made for TV series called Queen that was based on his great grandmother that was born here. It aired on CBS in the 1990's and had some very well known actors that starred in the series, like Haley Berry (As Queen), Jasmine St Claire, Martin Sheen, the list goes on. The world is small if you just take the time to open your eyes to it.
You are absolutely correct when you say it's a nuanced topic. I often am lumped in with "white" people even though I'm of French Canadian ancestry, my ancestors never had slaves, and many of my ancestors were forcibly removed by the British from their homeland in the St. John Valley and forced to live in Louisiana - where, by the way, they integrated with the black population. Just goes to show that, even though I look as white as a white person can be, I'm not descended from any of that slave stuff.

While there could possibly be slaves in your ancestry… there is ALSO the possibility that there are black slave OWNERS in your ancestry. While not that common overall the fact remains that there were black slave owners in early America. I call it an inconvenient truth.
True, but let's not also forget that the people pressed in to fight on both sides were barely above slaves themselves. None of the rich fought in either side... they pressed the lower classes to fight for them. Most of the men that fought in the south were basically given a choice of fight or die. So, yeah. I get what you're saying, but let's keep it 100. And, on top of that... the Civil War was more than just the ending of slavery. it was glommed on politically by the North to push an agenda. Northerners also had slaves, and when they heard of the conditions the southern slaves, and slaves in general were having to go through... they worked to abolish slavery. The war kicked off because they Southern states already felt they weren't being represented equally, and now their main form of labor was being taken from them... so yeah, they went to war. Please don't over simplify the worst war on American soil. Almost a million Americans died on both sides, and most of them really had no idea what they were fighting for.
Side noteblacks in america are from east Africa mostly. But also have a certain %sof white mixed in here and there. Plus native American. Plus Spanish....

As a white girl whose American ancestors all lived in the North and even intermarried with Native Americans, I was raised believing we were always on the right side. So "Roots" didn't get me in a guilty way. I was like, "These are the people we fought against and won. Yay!". Then I found out 1000 ways Ohioans also mistreated non-whites. So there are levels even there. You can have one forebear who was a stop on the Underground Railroad, another who married into a Native American tribe and genuinely believed he was helping by "Americanizing" them, and another who employed black people at lower wages just because he could. And because white unions wouldn't let them in. Categorization of people is hard, and if we all just worked to help *everyone* around us, life would be better for us all.

In many ways, we have become more polarized around race, religion and politics. Growing up I never saw color, was never taught to be precious. I still see people as people. I agree with your view of letting go, otherwise that old shit has power to stuff up your future
Let’s visit the Slavs😂😂
I read that book every few years. Bathtub reading through the winter.
I know a lot of people that are 20% Italian, 40% Franch, 10% Latino, and 30% black. And they rather prefer them be called mixed or sometimes whatever their dominant bloodline is. If it's Italian, German or black, and whatever it is Asian, that's your dominant bloodline You would for yourself to.
He's hilarious. An equal opportunity offender. Gotta love him.

I did mine and, no surprise, I'm 99.4% Northwestern European (mostly British/Irish). Even though that isn't "diverse" or interesting by today's standards, It makes me want to learn more about the native Britons and all the other groups that invaded, and eventually created the British Empire. Those are my ancestors.
Not the Kings and Queens or Noblemen, but the average people just trying to survive.
You gotta watch Bill Burr - Old Man Face.
Yeah one of my favourites
Old man face is probably one of his best.
The Mind of Mencia omg you have to ❤❤❤❤
What is truly sad is that most people still think that the mini-series: "Roots" was based on a true story. The only true part of that TV show was slavery and how bad it could be.
You need to check out Bill doing OLD MAN FACE - it is one of my favorites! Thanks
He does Simpson characters too.
Yep... Roots was an eyes opener then we find out it was fiction.
Dude for real on the Hollywood message movies. I always feel like I'm having my intelligence insulted whenever I see one of those things. It's like "Wow, love IS the most important thing! Wow, I SHOULD make more time for my kids! Wow, maybe racism IS bad!" Like, Jesus, if you've made it this far in life and still need to take your cues from the glorified Celexa tablets that a lot of movies are then you should have made more room in your life for introspection. These are all things we shouldn't need to be reminded of.
I was just going to comment about the “myth to live by” quote and I saw that many others had the same thought
Bill makes me laugh out loud a lot. Not a lot of comedians do. Katt Williams and Dave Chapelle are in that laugh out loud level for me as well 😊
The problem with history is our schools teach a distorted view.
Interesting 🤨 maybe 🤔 but please elaborate, further inquiring minds would like to know ?
@@thomaswilson5966 It’s simple. Academia is overwhelmingly liberal/progressive. Facts take a back seat to their slanted world view. The latter is shoved down students’ throats.
His wife is black and i think at this point they have two kids and some of the podcasts where she shows up and you get to see their dynamic you know she owns the house lol and has a great sense of humor and puts em in his place when she sees it, or tries lol love em both
Hes always been an Icon, Legemd, Homies
Every modern human has some Black genes in them. We all started out in the same place. We did move a lot and environments and nutrition's that were available that changed our evolution. However, we were together at the beginning.
He is such a mess but so funny and all video's I have seen of him is right on !
Great explination hahahha
Trust me. I don't know people of any race with "generational wealth". Except my boss.
I think Cromwell's ancestors owe me. 😄
Forgot where it was, but during the summer, a black family was ordered to stay away from the pool at an apartment complex and that black family lives there.
What's crazy is that I got to see Alex Haley speak at my high school here in Alabama.
What got me to subscribe, was you saying you know someone who saves ghettos. Damn. You can relate so off the level.
"... a movie where it doesn't work out..." Done! 1987 movie called "The Principal" with Jim Belushi and Louis Gossett, Jr.
Funny thing: Having been around while my daughter was a My Little Pony fan, the only evil My Little Pony I have seen is a black Pegasus pony. I joke with her today that MLP was racist because only the black pony was evil. Black Pegasus, with all humor, you are the only evil pony.
Shout out Scott good man
If you would like to watch a great comedic storyteller, please react to Bill Engvall. He's been at it for about 40 yrs. & doesn't need curse words to tell his stories. He has great facial expressions! Start with "Bill Flies with the Air Force Thunderbirds" (parts 1&2); then "Dancing with the Stars"(parts 1,2&3); "Replacing the Ol' Knee"; "Living in the Hospital"; "I've Got a Small What?"; Bill & Gail Remove a Stent"; then "Bill Tries Marijuana (parts 1&2). Bill Engvall IS a legend!
Bill Burr's wife Nia Hill. She is an actress, writer, and producer. She has appeared in shows like Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet and HBO's Crashing. Hill also voiced characters Georgia Roosevelt and Nia Roosevelt on the animated series F Is For Family, which was created by her husband, Bill Burr.
It's kinda fascinating to compare the difference between how black people in US think about slavery several hundred years ago and how that pertains to currently alive white people, and the jewish people and how they think about current day Germans, even though the holocause was way more recent. I think one of these groups have a more healthy long term way of thinking about it, but that's just me.
Great reaction dude.
Brother, speaking of “movie” and “racial” stand up routines, have you seen Ralphie May do “Cuba diving at a black theater”? Holy shite is it funny!! Next one please?!🙏🏼
Everyone at some point was a slave a servant. Not all of us were kings and queens.
🐐
Roots is fiction btw, too many people think it is historically accurate. I was pissed when I, myself learned the truth.
You should watch Thomas Sowell on the history of slavery, it will open your eyes
I love Bill Burr!
Racism is alive today it's just not discussed
12:00 Opposite of his statement, I was out in a Japanese bar with an military buddy who was black and "Cupid Shuffle" came on and he taught me the dance. So not everyone's human experience is the same. Makes me think about him every time I hear this bit. He passed away in 2021 R.I.P. brother.
edification.
You have to remember that there was slavery all over the world, not just the United States.
VS is an abbreviation for versus not verse 😊
You evolved, share that with others in real life.
While there could possibly be slaves in your ancestry… there is ALSO the possibility that there are black slave OWNERS in your ancestry. While not that common overall the fact remains that there were black slave owners in early America. I call it an inconvenient truth.
The thing that people need to remember as well is that half the white people fought a war and died to end slavery in this country.
@ I think you need to consult not only Lincoln on this but the Quakers who were key to the Underground Railroad.
Side noteblacks in america are from east Africa mostly. But also have a certain %sof white mixed in here and there. Plus native American. Plus Spanish....
Let's watch it shall we. Comments at the end.
This is what wrong we are all human black white male female no one has thee right to deny your free will to choose
Bill is married to a black woman. He is hilarious. I don't like all of his comedy but it is just comedy. It's meant to entertain and get a laugh.
If you use washcloths to shower then you need 4 cloths per shower. Face and neck. Upper body. Lower bodie and private parts. Hand can be washed between body parts.
In 1972 when I was 6 and given away by my dad and basically became the state of Ct.s property they put me into a foster home
in Roxbury,Mass with a black family. The Grandmother Claudia was a former slave and whenever I complained about how bad
my day was she would sit me on the porch and educate me about what a really bad day was. Shucking peas and green beans
on the porch with her I learned more about history then I ever could from some book or school.
What an honor for you to have actually talked to and learned from a former slave. That's mind blowing!
That granny must have been really old considering that slavery had been abolished for 107 years in 1972.
Slavey was abolished in 1865...your foster parent was 107 years old?
Wait, that would mean she was more like 117 years old, or older! Was this in the US?
@@flatblack39 She was 92 in 72. If were being honest about history slavery was abolished in 1865 but that doesn't
mean it was over. Some historians have found evidence that slavery really didn't end until 1963. Its a part of American
history that we just don't think about or even acknowledge sadly.
Awesome. Doug Stanhope. You need to check him out. You will hate and love him. Please do "Doug Stanhope about his mother and the of an afterlife SUB ITA" . He is the comedian's comedian. He is the best comedian ever.
I think it's only tribal people who go by amount of blood.
Roots is a fiction, even the author Alex Haley of the book admits it . Just like Django unchained. Go look up what Thomas Sowell has to say about it.
Thomas Sowell is just a conservative Morgan Feeman...magic black man says stuff I agree with? Me white and confused?!?
I watched Roots in my 6th grade history class. It was brutal.
That movie should be banned in school. It's not a historically correct movie. It only creates turmoil in impressionable minds. Kids start resenting each other because of the way it's taught in school.
@ just like reading to kill a mocking bird and other books. It wasn’t about being historically correct. It was to promote thought in humans minds. And if you think it did anything to me you’re crazy. Going threw holocaust class taught me a lot. But apparently the holocaust that happened deals with Jews and Germans.🤦🏻♂️💀😂
shout out to Scott fo real. 100
You need to watch eddie murphy skit saturday night live white woman, black man, white man white woman
Because that line about *(Roots)* you NEED to check out *Thomas Sowell (Facts about slavery never mentioned in school)*
Alex Haley has as much credibility as Wikipedia when it comes to facts.
Wiki is credible. For something serious follow the citations, which are vetted, peer reviewed etc.
Chuck Berry Live 1972 ~ My Ding-a-Ling ua-cam.com/video/hMddte6yD2w/v-deo.html
😂😂
I would totally watch if you get your genealogy done.
BTW Alex Haley who wrote that book ADMITTED he made that story up!!!! never here this
I missed the word hate after what's wrong
Well this is eye opening for many people. You should watch this #Pegasus - Thomas Sowell: Facts About Slavery Never Mentioned In School you will be surprised as many others were as he is not scared to tell the truth.
You need to check out Doug Stanhope's stuff.
I hate TikTokers who go to poor countries and buy out a street market for clicks and likes! To me, that is not altruism, it is capitalism. And they never show their own faces in the videos, but everyone knows who they are.
Back before Burr became a LA sellout
Check out Bill Burr broke another stereotype about Music and how Elvis stole? the black music - Why Bill Burr and His Wife Argue About Elvis | Netflix Is A Joke, This is a must see, with your wife!
Most of my ancestors didn't immigrate to American until after the Civil War. As far as I'm aware, we had nothing to do with slavery in this country, but because I'm a white American I'm still expected to feel some kind of guilt, otherwise a bunch of ignorant, self-righteous "activists" start labeling me this and that. Why isn't that perspective ever shown in those movies?
Roots was highly exaggerated and often made up, per the movie maker. Caused a lot of unnecessary hard feelings.
@@barbarabisson2551 You're clueless
You do know that a lot of the stuff in roots was not true right?
