    There is one here in my area of Tennessee (not sure if this is it) but the story has it that the company was mining, and when using dynamite, they accidentally blew a hole into an underground aquifer and this similar thing happened. They didn't have time to remove the equipment, because it flooded so fast.

      @@fourlamb1 as far as depth, I am not sure, but I have been told that the Sheriff's department has been out there with sonar on boats, and at the deepest point, which is where the aquifer would have been, they pinged out at 200 ft deep but could be deeper. The property is owned by Rogers Group, and nobody is allowed back there, for liability reasons. They have had people arrested for trespassing on the property.

    I've swam in a quarry just like this before. I live in the Slate Belt (yes thats the real region name) we are notorious for slate mining here in eastern pennsylvania... i've swam in plenty in my teenage years and early 20's... lots of fun. Some even have dangers like this but we all made sure to be safe.... We even built ladders into the trees to jump off extra high... There was a network around us of about 4-5 quarries for slate, when bored of one we would go to another, one in particular was what we call "new age" machined, instead of a rough outside, this entire quarry was cut like a giant box, it was perfectly square... after a 30 foot drop we would swim to the complete opposite side about little less then a football field and a friend would help pull us out since there was a big ledge. the sketchiest part about that was swimming through all the reeds and lilly pads that for some reason that quarry had growing in them... we used to catch eel in there at night and many other fish, camp out overnight. lots of good times and lots of good memories in those quarries. Probably bodies too but hey. not my business. (we were told that the mafia and alot of other smaller mobs would quarrel and kill and dump the bodies there in quarries around us since the area was mostly made of of immigrants at the time mostly Italians, irish, ect, dont know if they were just rumors or true tales. guess we will never know But i know a quarry makes for a damn good swimming time.

  • @MrRavenXavier

    I fly drones. We're not called pilots, we're called operators. I don't think any of us should be called pilots, either. Pilots get into the sky themselves, operators stay on the ground.

    • @beginization

      They should send machines like this to the moon or mars as they would cover much more ground then rovers

    • @MrRavenXavier
      @MrRavenXavier 9 років тому +1

      m beginization Flight characteristics are much more different on Mars. The atmosphere, wind, air pressure, all come into effect in flight. Plus the winds on Mars can have sustained localized gusts far stronger than they do here on Earth, even though Mars has far less and a much different atmosphere. Part of the reason they chose the landing sites they did for the rovers was to minimize their exposure to the high winds and they have specialized protocols for the massive dust storms. Once they even purposefully used a dust devil on Mars to "clean" off the solar panels
      Don't get me wrong I'm sure we'll send flying drones to Mars eventually, but probably not until they know for sure it'll work once it gets there. Sending anything to Mars is massively expensive so if they're going to send a flying drone they'll have to make sure it works in a "simulated" Mars environment here on Earth.

    • @beginization
      @beginization 9 років тому

      MrRavenXavier Maybe a delta wing with FPV would be better then as I seen some flying and they could cover plenty of distance with the expensive gear NASA has just to find the more interesting sites because a rover is so slow.

    • @scottrobb651
      @scottrobb651 9 років тому +1

      m beginization the signal delay would make flying drones on mars impossible When the drones can make decisions without human input from Earth then the idea has merit. The reason the rovers are so slow each rotation of the wheels is an separate command sent from mission control on Earth. They analyse the "road" conditions for hazards before sending the next command.

    Not construction equipment.
    This area (outside Austin, TX) was a quarry in the 1960's.
    After digging and cracking the limestone, a crack made it into an aquifer and the flooding began.
    The next day, workers returned to resume work but found the area flooded.
    A truck and other equipment were simply flooded and lost.
    The owners must have recovered with insurance and simply left.

    I do not know where this was filmed, but, this is really a common thing here in Texas. Especially Central Texas, around Austin, Lampasas, Canyon Lake, San Antonio, Blanco, Kerrville, etc...... They dig out these Quarries, for granite, Limestone, Marble, etc.... whatever you put on your kitchen counters, headstones, etc... then once they dig so deep, they hit the water table, and these quarries fill up FAST.. I'm talking just a few hours, and it is full.... In Austin, they clean them out, build apartments and homes around them, and call them "Lakes". They usually are full of stolen cars, or cars that people could not afford to pay for, so they dump them in there, and "Report" them stolen.... wink, wink....

      Yeah, where I grew up there is a quarry that all the equipment still is at the bottom of . Couple old trucks driving up the ramp as the drivers stopped got out and ran up the grade. These are old trucks, story is they got into an underground river or very very large spring. Quarry is about a quarter mile in size it was filled in a little over 6 hours..... Not sure how that was possible as it is deep too. Water is so cold not many even swim in it .

No movement in the water, very low oxygen in the water. Good conditions for bad stuff to thrive in. Imagine the insane amount of mosquito larva in there too? not to mention all those toxic algeas that like to live in lakes like this. Then theres the dangrous chemicals those abandoned equipment could have had. Gasoline, antifreeze, oil.... But thats just me worrying just go ahead and swim in it :D

    When it fills up a few things on the bottom for divers to look at when it becomes a scuba diving park. The oil and the gas obviously have been drained out of these machines because there's no sheen on the water you would see some sign of it somewhere. Where they're placed ensures that you're not going to jump off a cliff on to them. Looks like a nice setup for a future place to dive.

      I guess one mans junk is another mans treasure.....Seems like a very shallow quarry to me. I guess they didnt get too deep before flooding occurred. I live in Wisconsin and there are several flooded quarries. one near sheboygan is a monetized place which is more developed with a water slide built into the side of the quarry. There is a beach type area they created and there are lifeguards and a canteen. They charge you entry fees. The second is called redgranite quarry which flooded in the 1960's so ore carts and other machinery is said to be down there also there was an old garage that got buried with aparent model A car parts littering the area. There is no development at this quarry. Its swim and your own risk. Being 210 feet deep its a popular destination for divers of all skill levels. They say its a deep dark hole with muck on the bottom. There are rumoured to be cranes, cars, barrels, even carnival equipment at the bottom. So far only rail tracks, ore carts, and car parts are all that have been confirmed. 19 ppl have died there since the 70's. Obviously drownings being the main cause of death. Sometimes ppl have slipped from the various cliffs and became incapacitated from hitting there heads on the rocks or they drown after this takes place due to being unconscious. The main reason they found the true depth of the quarry was because the body of a drowning victim was found 210 feet down. Divers have also lost their lives some due to drowning or getting the bends from resurfacing far to quick. Decompression sickness can cause bubbles to form within your body. In your joints, lungs, skin, brain, musculoskeletal joints in your elbows, thighs, ankles, knees etc., in your spinal cord, inner ear, basically the whole body. Though death can happen its usually in extreme cases and is fairly rare. Its still a fun place to swim and jump from the cliff walls. The water is clear blue and usually nice temp. You just have to be aware of your surroundings and be careful and cautious.

      Enjoy!
      The rental cost for the pump equipment would be triple the cost of the scrap metal.
      Plus the time it would take to pump out all the water, that includes the fuel to run the equipment and the payroll for the help all for a mere few hundred dollars for rusty steel that needs to be pulled out with heavy equipment.
      Then you have the cost of loading the junk on a truck and hauling it off to the scrap yard.

  • @infowazz
    @infowazz 9 років тому +1

    we have a local quarry like that. supposedly has a truck or two in it. too deep to tell. popular swimming hole now.
    another one used to have cross country skiing all around it during the 50-80s then a kid died when the side crumbled and rocks drowned him. now it's not open to the public.
    we snuck in to do some fishing and it looked just like this. crystal clear water, it was amazing and sadly banned from the public. it had amazing fishing too, huge bass.
    as we were leaving we got caught and the old man yelled at us but didn't call police or anything. no cellphones at the time lol. so sad that place is wasted. still has the old Alpine Lake sign.
