Hey...cool video. We are Sister Moon, the Tartan 40 not far from you. Part of my conversation with Bob on Nero was in the video. This was actually the second hurricane we weathered on the Kickimuet this summer. We were in almost the same spot for Hurricane Elsa back in early July. Our friends Suzi and Travers were on Montauk Light, the Skye 51 that dragged. Unfortunately, they did not have a new, modern anchor, and their CQR plowed its way through the mud as they are prone to do. They had only had the boat for a month or so when Henri arrived. The crew from True, a J/160 and some of their friends helped them get their boat re-anchored. I can't say enough about modern anchors. I will never sail without one. We have a 66 lb. Spade anchor and 200 feet of chain and we did not budge.
I'm glad you got through the storm in good shape. The anchor no doubt helped, but the Kickemuit River is one of the best hurricane holes in the northeast, with excellent holding ground and good protection. I wish I had known where you were, as you were anchored right in front of my house (good to see my boats in the storm from the water - I spent the whole storm looking at them from the shore)! I hope you survived the rain from Ida as well, and if you find your way back here, send a message - I'd be happy to give you dinner and a shower. Meanwhile, fair winds and following seas!
Really appreciate the unedited video so that we know you are okay. Goes to show that you two are not just a bit of entertainment, you have become part of our lives - almost like friends, who we activity think about between episodes - I can’t say that I would feel that way about anyone on TV. That’s the power of UA-cam and authentically sharing your lives with us. BTW, I actually think it’s quite important to not always polish everything so carefully. The moments that are more raw make you both more real - no makeup, looking rough and tired, not knowing what to say - it’s all perfect - it’s real, and that’s what makes us care. Stay safe!
Raw video is real: All the activities and commotion during a storm can only best be demonstrated with raw video. Plus, I am so relieved your first tropical cyclone was as mild and uneventful as it was. I pray for your safety.
WOW!! Loved this raw format. I watch a lot of channels where they'll do 20 hrs of footage to edit down to 30 min. That's overkill. I watch sailing channels to see actual SAILING, and to see how the crew reacts to challenges. You guys are giving me what I want. AND you are doing great! Hang in there! Love ya!
That was very kind of you to give the Expedition fans a shout out. Now Larry is brewing. I have been swamped with boat work and find that 80% of my customers are watching you guys, and many of my other favorite channels. You are influencers to young and old alike. ; )
Tlhe "raw style" was perfect for this video. The sound of the wind and rain helped it feel real. So glad you guys stayed steady and well. As always, thanks for sharing your adventures. All the best.
Not gonna lie, I prefer the polished style that you produce. I understand the amount of effort that goes into that however. I'm glad you guys are safe and I appreciate you putting out this video despite the weather you have had to deal with. Keep safe you 4 xx
Twas but a strong breeze! We are expecting 75 mph gusts tomorrow with 50mph sustained. That's normal for this time of year down here (43o south) in Tasmania for our spring time gales. Life in the roaring 40s! Like the video guys. Every episode doesn't have to be a cinematic masterpiece. It's about boatlife afterall! Cheers! Ps.. at least you know the keel won't fall off in a blow!
Well done for choosing the best cove hiding cover - you also need a good place with great bottom holding ......and DO get that anchor connection sorted. Most failures are from a swivel !
Just began binge watching your channel going on this episode... can you only imagine having Cat 5 hurricane in Puerto Rico 5 years ago? I'm a 69 year old grandma who lives here and I love watching Sailing videos. All by blessings!!!
Thank you so much for not having any music in the video, to hear your voices with just the music that nature provides is much better than any "editing"!
Still on my weekend binge watching spree, I recall Hurricane Henri well, it was originally forecast for the eye to land about 1/2 mile from our home on LI Sound before the forecast shifted him east. Thanks for taking one for the team. You made a good choice for where to hide out even if it was leaning into the punch. Nice anchor BTW...
You are both very lucky to have experienced your first hurricane in such an enclosed environment. At the start of the clip, I was trying to tell you that you still have way too much portable windage exposed. If you weren't so sheltered, you could have lost your dodger, your BBQ and possibly your outboard. You did well to remove or secure your sails as they can create enormous windage. This one, although nervewracking for you, was a kindergarten introduction to storms at sea. Its good that you experienced it first hand in such a sheltered environment, but don't for one minute think it'll be the worst you'll experience in your ocean travels. Good luck, very much enjoying your channel.
A pleasant change to your normal video’s.(nothing wrong with that ).Just to watch things happening in real time. I’ve been in a few hurricanes in my time, this one was a comfortable christening. Stay safe guys. The muffins looked good
Love the Unedited/raw video. For events like this it's perfect. For other types of things, maybe not so much. But for a Hurricane, perfect. When Bret said "I was kind of underwhelmed with the Hurricane", my first thought was "DEAR LORD DON'T SAY THAT!!!" Not sure if you guys are old enough to remember this one but ... "It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature!!!"
I actually prefer this style of video, life is not a smooth and polished production. Sailboat life is almost never smooth and polished. Good jobs on keeping calm and level headed, it is harder than many think.
I heard a saying once, Life is what happens while your busy making other plans. Calm and level headed that's special training today. And politicly speaking not in a good way. It is harder to feel that panic and ignore it, It's a hard step to take. The only way I will ever drop a boat like that in the water is if my wife dies, But for now I got a whole 2 story house to remodel.
It went on for the better part of a day and a night. If you aren't reasonably calm you would soon be exhausted by the stress. Stay focused but calm and relaxed and ready to spring into action when it is necessary. One thing you learn in sailing is that it is long periods of nothing much happening punctuated with chaos and adrenaline. Rest when you can and stay alert for the times action is necessary.
The cinema verite style was perfect for this video of the storm. Nice contrast would have been some footage of you playing the cello during all the chaos.
I love when something scary is happening to me. I go well this is getting intresting, hilarious Brett and I both are like yup this intresting. Glad you guys are safe!!!
Glad you two are safe. I too like this style of video. It seems warmer and more intimate but I do still enjoy your other videos as well. Mix it up. Keep it fresh for you. We enjoy your adventures and don't want it to be tedious for you. Thank you and stay safe!
Happy you are doing well. Since I live in Florida, it was funny hearing you talk about the "Hurricane" with gusts up to 50. I'm sure you both know, that gusts to 50 are not hurricane force winds. But again, happy your anchor held and all is good.
Glad you are both fine, and the boat rode out the storm well. I liked the raw "documentary" style of this video. It makes the storm more real for us viewers. Again, glad you two are safe!
Living in the UK, I am surprise by how much I worried about you, so the opening sequence was a great relief! In our part of the UK we do not have experiences with the weather like that. Appreciate the more 'as it happened' style of production. No apologies or explanations needed.
Glad you are safe. The calm after the storm pancakes are important. Thank you for this video, you made us experience part of the inconvenience when you are on the water. Have nice week.
Glad to see that you are safe and healthy! Unfortunately, you have not experienced a hurricane ! I guarantee that you would not have rode out the storm through a full blown hurricane. I have experienced real storms in my home ( Andrew, Wilma, Katrina) that had 150 mph winds and 8 to 20 foot storm surges. Please do not underestimate your next storm based on Henri or Ida. Neither storm hit with hurricane strength unless you were located in Louisiana. Andrew through boats similar to yours far into the mangroves.
Enjoyed the raw video! Think it was more like this for the Atlantic crossing. Most of the hiking videos I watch are like this. When I thru hike the AT, my plan will be to post daily or almost daily videos with almost zero edits. I actually prefer it. Happy sailing!!
Glad you survived the remnants of Ida. Tropical depressions are less of a concern to boats because it is mostly rain and the winds are not strong. Last storm we had to deal with was Harvey. It came a shore East of Corpus Christi and proceeded up the Texas coast just barely in land. It dumped historical record rains all the way the Texas Louisiana state line. The was major flooding all along the coast. You were fortunate. And that is a good thing. Safe travels..
These two are so photogenic, Can just point the camera in their faces , that how it is when your good looking people,it gives you confidence with the camera. Great stuff as usual.
I get where you're coming from. Years ago while working on a Tug, We ran into a gale the waves were about10to15 feet. All we could see through the wheelhouse windows was Gray Skys And gray water. A little hairy at times. But what an adventure. Damn glad to get to Vancouver. But the beer was good I have to say, But I love what you've done with your Sail boat. Oh to be young again.
I enjoyed the raw style too. It's more real feeling rather than a production feeling. We like all your content though, so whatever floats your boat, literally! Lol
Glad you Both are safe! I agree with a lot of people commenting, the raw footage was appropriate and shows real life emotions and conditions. Thank you for sharing with us and glad your floating home held fast!!!! Take care!
Please make a change to your anchor. The failure mode of swivels is typically when they are subjected to lateral forces. This means it is ideal to install the swivel in such a way that lateral forces cannot be applied across the joint. One way to do this is to use a reputable inline type with a few links of chain between the anchor and the swivel. Generally, installing the swivel directly on the anchor shank is not a great idea.
I guess this many people have a point, think you should do this, also check with the Swivel manufacturer that the Swivel has not already been weakened during this Stressful use, it may be safest to replace it! (More expense!!!)
@@philipmasters7491 This wasn't stressful. This is normal trade wind anchoring. Typical trade winds 25 knots. Gusts can be 40% higher. Every tide change spins you around 180 degrees. At around 20° S, you can get weeks of 25 knot + winds.
So glad you made it safely through the hurricane! Video style is very appropriate for the situation. Serious style for serious situations. Dream style for chillin, documentary style for informative. Whichever way you choose rest easy, I will keep watching because you love what you do and that is always worthwhile.
So glad you are okay. I'd hate to lose one of my favorite couples and their boat. I once had a sailboat and worried about it during every thunderstorm. God bless you both.
Hello from Newcastle Australia. As a subscriber who has followed your journey from the start I rate this episode as one of the best. Not because it was full of excitement, etc but because it showed your raw feelings. Love being able to hear the floor boards squeak and the wind and water. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the Professional episodes that you put out which takes a lot of time behind-the-scenes to do but it is a pity some of the rebuilding ones like the grinding and refitting videos were not raw as well. Keep up the great work and look forward to sharing your journey.
- Brett: [19:24] How was your first hurricane on board? - Jade: No problem. Let's do it again next week. - Ida, a week later: Ask and you shall receive. Jokes aside, I hope you're fine and safe. The raw cut was very relaxing (at times), especially with dogs relaxing
Hi Guys...I think I've seen nearly all your video's and have enjoyed watching the journey of Family Evans (Hey Penny, Hey Dingo) very much...The commitment you two showed during the Salvage of your Fantastic Boat was truly Inspiring to me...You stuck to the task through thick and thin, then Splashed in good time considering the workload...What strikes me now is how being on the water has infused you with even more energy and it's a joy to see...Cant wait to follow the journey...Best Wishes to you.....
Love your twos attitude and degermation to do things right and with as much quality as possible for your experience you did in the rebuild. Keep the videos more like this on. If you are going to be full time live a boards around the world you need to get a little more skills in the weather. This is big to you two I know but just a blow to a lot of people that have lived on the water for awhile. I was born and raised in south Florida in 1940 and have seen a lot of hurricanes and have rode out a few of them in our fishing boat in my younger years. You did good for your first time. Jot yourselves some notes and learn from them. One of the last ones I rode out was Donna well before your time. I was in a 36 foot cuddy cabin open net fishing boat over in the mangroves of southwest Florida tied up in a creek, it destroyed the Florida Keys where I lived. Just use common sense in what you are going to accomplish in your lives. Never let fear gain control of you in these kind of situations but use caution in heading into the situation. You are two great young people and I believe you both are blessed of the Lord.
Thank you for the update for your situation. Glad to see you all did really well. See you next week. Nice to see what you call the raw version. Still fantastic. Sleep well.
Great job on this video well done to both of you I really liked this style of vision/ video. Just as in life we don’t always have to see the highlight reels.

This is an honest video, best version, no music no frills, just boat life.
Tlhe "raw style" was perfect for this video. The sound of the wind and rain helped it feel real. So glad you guys stayed steady and well. As always, thanks for sharing your adventures. All the best.
Just sat down with a fresh pot of coffee and here you are with a fresh video. Great timing. 👍
Got luv a guy who hugs his dog while laying down.
Not gonna lie, I prefer the polished style that you produce. I understand the amount of effort that goes into that however. I'm glad you guys are safe and I appreciate you putting out this video despite the weather you have had to deal with. Keep safe you 4 xx
I have binge watched your channel since yesterday and it is delightful. Continued success to you two. Fair wind and following seas to both of you.
You didn't drag, nothing carried away, you guys did a good job... Well done.

Great to know you two (four) got through so well. And, thanks for the "we don't have a cow aboard." Priceless.
its cool to see the sailing community just come together and all help each other out
I totally didn’t mind the raw edit. Actually didn’t even notice a difference. 😮
Great job Jade.
You have spoiled us with your excellent editing skills... but it was great to see this video right away. Thank you for posting this rough video.
Well done for choosing the best cove hiding cover - you also need a good place with great bottom holding ......and DO get that anchor connection sorted. Most failures are from a swivel !
I’m happy you made it through unscathed. As to the video the rough edit is perfect because it shows exactly how it happened.
Just began binge watching your channel going on this episode... can you only imagine having Cat 5 hurricane in Puerto Rico 5 years ago? I'm a 69 year old grandma who lives here and I love watching Sailing videos. All by blessings!!!
Loved the raw video shows real life and just not the lovely sunsets all the time glad your all safe and well
Thank you so much for not having any music in the video, to hear your voices with just the music that nature provides is much better than any "editing"!
Great dog dude
16.03-16.04 Jade is that super model coming out of the mist. That would be cool portrait shot!
Great choice of anchor. We've had our Sarca Excel for seven years now and swear by it. It's nice to be able to sleep at night. Cheers!
I liked this format. Usually I'm adjusting the volume between music and talking. It's my ears, not you. Glad you're safe.

YAY! I found your TikTok and am following you there. I like the little updates on there. :)
A pleasant change to your normal video’s.(nothing wrong with that ).Just to watch things happening in real time. I’ve been in a few hurricanes in my time, this one was a comfortable christening. Stay safe guys. The muffins looked good
Loved this kinda videos where you get to see the true raw power of raw mother nature.
Pleased to see you are ok 👍. Great update video. Thanks.
Great you guys are safe a good baptism without too much drama, hope you can retrieve your anchor ok and it's not too dug in.
Love the Unedited/raw video. For events like this it's perfect. For other types of things, maybe not so much. But for a Hurricane, perfect.

Horrible storm but beautiful blue eyed mamasita. Love from Antigua Guatemala from OsoYolo.

You guys have done great, you can store powdered milk but the oat milk worked great.
I love when something scary is happening to me. I go well this is getting intresting, hilarious Brett and I both are like yup this intresting. Glad you guys are safe!!!
I agree that this style is just as good.
Glad you two are safe. I too like this style of video. It seems warmer and more intimate but I do still enjoy your other videos as well. Mix it up. Keep it fresh for you. We enjoy your adventures and don't want it to be tedious for you. Thank you and stay safe!
Nerve wrecking video! Fantastic editing - and all that on top of your own concerns.
We went through hurricane Ida last week. We had 150 mph winds here in Louisiana, on my tugboat. I enjoy your videos, stay safe!!!
😮
Now it shows you both are made for this! And Jade talking slowly now, I understood all! Perfect, keep that way pls!
Happy you are doing well. Since I live in Florida, it was funny hearing you talk about the "Hurricane" with gusts up to 50. I'm sure you both know, that gusts to 50 are not hurricane force winds. But again, happy your anchor held and all is good.
Too true. 150 mph instead of 50 mph is a different adventure all together. Good comment!
Thank you. It is nice to know you have not been to see Davey Jones.
Glad you are both fine, and the boat rode out the storm well. I liked the raw "documentary" style of this video. It makes the storm more real for us viewers. Again, glad you two are safe!
Yes to more raw footage! Glad nothing crazy happened and you two are in good shape.
Living in the UK, I am surprise by how much I worried about you, so the opening sequence was a great relief! In our part of the UK we do not have experiences with the weather like that. Appreciate the more 'as it happened' style of production. No apologies or explanations needed.
You have a good man there 💞 who I can see you love & appreciate!
No clue what you're doing, I know you want to be in the pacific. Stay safe, love you guys
Glad you are safe. The calm after the storm pancakes are important. Thank you for this video, you made us experience part of the inconvenience when you are on the water. Have nice week.

Roger that.
Thanks for sharing the video nice episode.
Im glad you guys are oke see you next week.
Greetings from the netherlands
Enjoyed the raw video! Think it was more like this for the Atlantic crossing. Most of the hiking videos I watch are like this. When I thru hike the AT, my plan will be to post daily or almost daily videos with almost zero edits. I actually prefer it. Happy sailing!!
Hey guys, just recently found your channel, I am now a big fan, great content, great chemistry, keep up the great work. I can’t wait for next episode
I think I really really REALLY like the raw... Its very cool!
Thanks for the update !! Glad u r safe!!
It look scary. Glad you guys are safe.
Happy that your anchor held!
well done for coming through the tempest. A different type of episode which I thought was very atmospheric . I'm glad that all four of you are safe.
I like this style and would watch it again. Glad to know you all are safe! I liked your TikTok updates!
Thank you, that was a great video.Keep safe.
I enjoyed the raw style too. It's more real feeling rather than a production feeling. We like all your content though, so whatever floats your boat, literally! Lol
Seems, I prefer this style of video. Though, I enjoy all if your videos. Enjoyed this very much. Glad you guys are all good!

Good work guys. Glad to see/hear you turned on your vhf radio. Nice to hear how everyone progresses in your close proximity during a storm.
So glad you made it safely through the hurricane!

Your investment of the larger and heavier anchor was very wise. Good on ya :)
So glad you are okay. I'd hate to lose one of my favorite couples and their boat. I once had a sailboat and worried about it during every thunderstorm. God bless you both.
So glad you are safe!!
Good luck with Larry. Hopefully he will not be too nasty to you guys. Stay safe.

You two are such a great couple. I like the reality videos. Just put out whatever you're comfortable with.
I like both, good to mix it up.
Good to find you both well. Not bad for a raw vid, not bad at all!!
Glad you're safe.
Glad you are ok, enjoy
Next time do not forget the large box of powdered milk. It has a powdered cow on the cover😜 almost time to head south.
So glad you're safe Expedition Evans! Love to you both! Sail on!! xxx
I really liked the raw style of editing!!
Good.. And yes the community is great..
You guys look tired, rest up! Glad you are all right and I like the raw look to the footage.
