Hey guys. Charlie was a session player for many years. He plays guitar, bass, fiddle and I think mandolin. He played on a lot of other artists albums, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and lots of others. He was primarily a guitar player. One day he was installing new fencing on his property and was using a power auger to dig the post holes. The auger caught his shirt sleeve and messed up his right hand and broke his arm in a couple places. He couldn't play anything for a long time. Finally he decided while his hand still wasn't ready to pick guitar he could hold a bow. So he told the band they were all going back to work and he started playing and writing more and more fiddle tunes. Was a hell of a guitar player too though.

Roy Clark was a great musician and singer he would play the out of any instruments but his singing was so so good but he never took it serious and another master at guitar 🎸 was Chet Adkin. People stood up when he played.
A fiddle is played with the foot in the crook of the arm. A violin is played with the foot under the chin. Same instrument, but you are right about it being how it is played.
I love this video and can't see it often enough. Not only is the song fantastic but Charlie Daniels was a terrific fiddler and his band was so tight. Rest in peace Charlie Daniels.
@@KrizzKalikoOfficial Yes, Charlie passed in 2020. Vince Gill did a memorial concert at his funeral, singing "Go rest high on that mountain". It's on UA-cam but the new policies will not allow me to link it. Taken from Wikipedia: Daniels died on July 6, 2020, at the age of 83 of a hemorrhagic stroke at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee.
Totally agree! I was also going to recommend Lindsey Stirling. She is a phenomenal violinist, and she also does ballet/dance moves while playing the violin. It is quite beautiful to watch.
I met Charlie.... I worked a couple of his concerts in Upstate NY and stood on the side of the stage while he played. Absolutely Amazing! He was a big dude with a bigger heart. R.I.P. Charlie.
I also met Mr. Daniels. I was just a bartender in a big club, and I always volunteered for concerts. It made for long days, but a lot of fun. The roadies, a rowdy bunch that did their jobs. Sound checks, and lighting had to be just right. Mr.Daniels always knew where his people were. Kind, generous, soft spoken. Even exhausted after pouring it all out, he made sure his people had everything they needed, and had a smile for his crew’s antics and joshing.
I was born and raised in upstate New York. This was one of the many great shows I saw at SPAC. The keyboard player had a broken wrist and still performed flawlessly. What a show.
Been following BP for awhile now. You can tell the type of influence this music has on BP when he's so happy to share the joy he's found in this music with others. Great reaction. Looking forward to seeing more here too!
Charlie Daniels Band was the halftime show at a Tennessee Football game many years ago. I was sitting at the top of the upper deck, so I had to rely on the huge screen at the other end of the stadium. What masde this show different was that we got a huge storm right as the band took the stage to sing this song. What was really cool was watching the closeup of Charlie singing throughout the show with water flowing off the front of his hat like a waterfall. A great time was had by all!
I know I’ve said this on BP’s reaction before, but I’m putting the same info here just for Krizz : During Johnny’s fiddling, the “nonsense” lyrics are the names of classic old-timey fiddle tunes - implying that Johnny is playing these songs back-to-back with no breaks and no errors; a prodigious feat of stamina AND musicianship. So Johnny did more *by himself* than the Devil did with his band of demons joining in. Johnny earned that golden fiddle fair and square.
@@Kevin-i6t5i No, 3 of the 4 are songs. Fire on the Mountain, The House of the Rising Sun and Granny Will Your Dog Bite are songs. Chicken in the bread pan pickin' out dough is a line from the song "Ida Red". "Fire on the Mountain" was also the name of Charlie's 1974 album.
@@jokerjames5262 As I said those are verses or lines from songs not names of songs, devils in the house of the rising sun is a reference to the song house of the rising sun, Charlie's album fire on the mountain has no song by that title that's the Marshall tucker band.
There's a sequel to this song called " The Devil Comes Back to Georgia" by Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, Mark O'Conner, Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart. It takes place 10 years later. And, back in the early 90's, the K.M.C. Kru did a rap version of this song called " The Devil Came Up To Michigan".

When Charlie Daniel’s was touring he required a new bow every night because he shredded the horse hair every night. An amazing violinist is Lindsay Sterling. She is amazing.
Lindsey Stirling "Master of Tides" you'll be introduced to the hottest redheaded pirate captain. In "Roundtable Rival" her Wild West showdown is violin v electric guitar. Many of her videos are trippy...
I had the pleasure of catching Charlie Daniels Band live many years ago in a smaller venue. Country is not my favorite genre, but these guys put on a hell of a show and after their set they came out and shook hands with the fans. Class act, really nice folks. As for the devil playing violin. This is not a new idea. There was this guy Tartini that used to sleep with a violin next to his bed (you know how you sometimes wake up with inspiration? Useful to have your chosen instrument nearby). He dreamt that the devil entered his room and played a song on his violin. Tartini woke up and remembered the song, figured it out on his violin and got it written down on some sheet music. This became Tartini's violin sonata in g minor (commonly refered to as "the devil's trill"). It is worth a listen if you get a chance. Beautiful song, really captures a sense of sadness that might describe being seperated from a god and angels that maybe one previously loved. ...all these people telling us that rock and roll is the devil's music when there is a classical piece actually perported to be written by the devil himself.
Ricky Skaggs is the originator of the “strings and strangs” quote. He was like 5 years old in his first tv appearance when he said it. He was on the Flatt and Scruggs show from Nashville. It is on UA-cam and is quite popular. He played “Ruby Are You Mad At Your Man?” It’s adorable. He is now a major influence and force in Country and Bluegrass music. He’s an ardent Christian and has recorded Country Gospel, Bluegrass Gospel and Secular Country and Bluegrass Music. He’s huge in those genres.
I like that you guys appreciate different music types, and styles. Especially in a time when so many think that any music type belongs only to certain demographics.
First time listener. I'm country as fuck and I been listening to rap since I was 13. Fun to see yall listen to some country :) prob not your first country song, just saying fun to see :) much love
The main difference between the two is the style of music they're used to play. Violin: Often associated with classical music, orchestras, symphonies, and chamber music. Fiddle: Often associated with folk, country, bluegrass, and Cajun music. In rock and jazz, the terms are used more interchangeably.
The bridge. A fiddle bridge is much shorter than an classical bridge. This lowers the action and brings the strings closer to the neck and body. This makes the strings easier to press so that fingers can just flow over the strings. This also changes the tone of the instrument since the strings are closer to the body.
I’ve saw the CDB along with so many great artists I’m happy to see our soul brothers cross over to our music I love rap and most of all the blues without black men and women we wouldn’t have country music it’s all so intertwined and I love that music has no color or race
One Famous violinist... Itzhak Perlman. As for Charlie Daniels, he was an amazing top-tier fiddler, awesome showman, wonderful Christian man, great patriot, etc. Always loved Charlie. Heaven got some good music when God called him home.😊
Krizz and Pegasus: Fun fact about me; this white woman lived on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx in the 70’s until I was 10; Brooklyn till I was 20. Hip Hop was born on Sedgwick Ave in 1973 when DJ Kool Herc was spinning in the building’s common room for parties; I know the roots of Hip Hop and Rap; a huge part of my life. James Brown’s “Give It Up Or Turn It Loose” was still an anthem in the clubs I went to in the 80’s; saw AFRiKA BAMBAATA promoting “Planet Rock” at my roller rink; best times of my life ❤️❤️❤️

@@AWStuck (I am merely an educated lay person. If you have musical training you are most likely far better informed than I am. I played a coronet in 7th or 8th grade, one of my daughters played a trombone for five or six years, and the other played a saxophone for three years. That's my musical background.) You are _partly_ correct. From what I read preparing this reply, it would seem that at one time there was a "fiddle" as well as as the ancestor to the violin, but the ancient fiddle died out and it became a style of play. SOME violins have slight design difference to be used as a fiddle but in the large majority of cases the instruments are identical. From a site I found: What Is the Difference Between a Fiddle and a Violin? In the vast majority of cases, fiddles and violins are the exact same instruments played in different styles. However, some instruments are expressly designed for fiddling as opposed to classical playing. Such instruments often have a flatter bridge, which brings the strings slightly closer to the fingerboard. This makes certain fiddle techniques, like rapid string crossings and chording, more manageable. Overall, however, the main distinction between violin and fiddle is the style of music performed by the player. And because many violinists affectionately refer to their instrument as their fiddle, the meaning of the word will simply be specific to the person speaking it.
1:00 Nice call, just throwin’ some Speedom on this beat. It seemed pretty good, though Speedom might still be a hair faster on the tempo. I like Tech’s call of using some Freedom on that track, but I could definitely see a chopper track blowing up off this beat getting remixed. Can’t wait until you catch “The Devil Comes Back to Georgia,” which has Johnny Cash on the track and a fiddle player that is the Eminem to Charlie’s Tech. Some other notable performers as well, it was a big collab in the country world. Feel free to pick up a few country lessons to add to your nice Spanglish flows (I loved “like a bass”/“la cabeza” in Speedom). Any other tracks you go ham on I should know about?
When I was in high school the orchestra played at our talent show. Three acts later a group did a little bluegrass and the second chair violin went up on stage with the same violin and shredded that fiddle.
A violin player that is simply amazing in everything she performs within is named Lindsey Sterling and you should listen to anything she has produced. Worth every second.

Charlie Daniels' speaking lyrics isn't rap, it's cowboy poetry, which has been around a darn sight longer than rap. Blake Shelton paid tribute to Charlie Daniels in a recent song with the lyric, "The Devil went down to Georgia but he didn't stick around, this is God's country."
I'm in my 50's. Grew up on Rock and Metal music. Remember being young thinking Rap would not survive. Then Big Daddy Kane educated me. Life is education, you don't have to like all of it. Oh, and another I used to love, among many. The Steve Miller Band. I used to know every word to every song. Stories set to music. And it's a silly one, but Dance, Dance, Dance is timeless and ageless and fun, makes you smile.
My aunt plays violin, my grandmother played fiddle and Krizz nailed it. The difference is all in the attitude baby. Saw him play in the 90s when he stopped at the arena I was working at, it was a hell of a show. He goes in with that fiddle, he went through 2 or 3 bows over the course of his set and made sure everybody in the audience felt every note. Not normally a country person, but some folks live are just a whooe other level and he was one of those for sure.

Glen Campbell was a member of The Wrecking Crew. An amazing aggregate of studio musicians.
A fiddle is played with the foot in the crook of the arm. A violin is played with the foot under the chin. Same instrument, but you are right about it being how it is played.
A violin has strings. A fiddle has strangs
Thanks for the info. I didn't know that.
A fiddle has steel strings .. a violin has gut strings ..
Thank you!! I finally know the difference..
@@rhondaserges5136 That may be a new rule. When my grandfather played back in the 1920's he didn't have steel strings.
I love this video and can't see it often enough. Not only is the song fantastic but Charlie Daniels was a terrific fiddler and his band was so tight. Rest in peace Charlie Daniels.
It's the grins on your faces that make this reaction epic
That’s real music right there!!
RIP to the devils master, Charlie Daniels & his ass kicking band 🔥
Is Charlie Daniels deceased?
@@KrizzKalikoOfficial Yes, Charlie passed in 2020.
Vince Gill did a memorial concert at his funeral, singing "Go rest high on that mountain". It's on UA-cam but the new policies will not allow me to link it.
Taken from Wikipedia:
Daniels died on July 6, 2020, at the age of 83 of a hemorrhagic stroke at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee.
So glad younger generations are enjoying his great music
It truly is great music
I love that they seem willing to listen to music outside their preferred genre and appreciate great music whenever they see it.
I didn't pay attention to Charlie until later in his life... BUT that guy could tear that stage up. He was something else. Go Charlie!
I love this song! Thanks for reacting. He's kinda an original rapper...to a country beat. BP..I watched your reaction to this song as well..awesome.
Another great song by Charlie Daniels Band is Still On Saigon.
Lindsey Sterling is probably the most well known violinist currently making music, shes pretty impressive!
Well, I’ve got to check that out
Totally agree! I was also going to recommend Lindsey Stirling. She is a phenomenal violinist, and she also does ballet/dance moves while playing the violin. It is quite beautiful to watch.
When CDB finished and walked off, that was his mic drop moment! 😂😂😂
Classic reaction. The smile on your face said it all! Great selection!
Charlie Daniels is awesome in concert. I saw him in the mid 90's in my mifdwest hometown. Still one of my favorite shows to see live.
Seemed like it was crazy
This so very awesome! RIP Charlie. You will be so very missed! Love your reactions!
Your joyful responses make me smile! Thanks
I know I’ve said this on BP’s reaction before, but I’m putting the same info here just for Krizz :
During Johnny’s fiddling, the “nonsense” lyrics are the names of classic old-timey fiddle tunes - implying that Johnny is playing these songs back-to-back with no breaks and no errors; a prodigious feat of stamina AND musicianship.
So Johnny did more *by himself* than the Devil did with his band of demons joining in.
Johnny earned that golden fiddle fair and square.
Those are not the names of songs, those are known as callouts for square dancing.
He told him once, dat sonnavabitch, he the best there ever been.
@@jokerjames5262 As I said those are verses or lines from songs not names of songs, devils in the house of the rising sun is a reference to the song house of the rising sun, Charlie's album fire on the mountain has no song by that title that's the Marshall tucker band.
@@Kevin-i6t5i man, you did not say that. you said those were callouts for square dancin'
Comin' on 62 years old and saw Charlie when I was 32. Now I'm becoming a Krizz fan. He and BP are the real deal.
Krizz new sub. I've been listening to your music for 15 years glad to be able to watch your reactions.
The devil went back to Georgia
My dad knew Charlie for 45 years when they met after coming back from Vietnam. I grew up backstage at some of these shows 😂 got some pics of him from the last couple years too before he passed. RIP Big Daddy 🤠🤘🏻🔥
5:10 that’s Tazz DiGregorio, my dad knew him really well too. dude can tickle the ivories as they say
I loved seeing him in concert. He's a legend.
That’s dope, that you’ve been able to have that type of experience
Charlie Daniels was a tremendous musician. His live shows were amazing. He is sorely missed.
Yes, he will.
Hello!!!!!! 👋🏽
Hey BP! You gotta show him Blondie Rapture. Maybe he already knows.
❤❤❤
BP hook him up with Floor, and Man O War
I loved watching your first reaction to this song ❤️ I loved seeing you share this epic performance with another artist 😊🤘🏽 This song is an EXPERIENCE imho ❤️
Yo BP, you need to put Krizz in front of Brushy One String.

She does things few violinists can do, like dancing and not missing a note while playing at the same time.
Wow i saw him at a festival about 15 or so years ago!!! My goodness!!! I love him and i was in awe. Hes incredible. Love him
Ricky Skaggs is the originator of the “strings and strangs” quote.
No, thank you for making this. It’s awesome to see a true musician checking out legendary music.
He is the country version of the legendary Robert Johnson bluesman!
I like that you guys appreciate different music types, and styles. Especially in a time when so many think that any music type belongs only to certain demographics.
I was lucky enough to see him in concert years ago. He was amazing live. R.I.P. Charlie Daniels.
Yeah, blessings to Charlie Daniels
First time listener. I'm country as fuck and I been listening to rap since I was 13. Fun to see yall listen to some country :) prob not your first country song, just saying fun to see :) much love
Hey your opening the minds of the younger gens, and I say thank you. Music and food, something we all need.
I love nothing more than a big helping of music.
That’s real music right there!! RIP the devils master, Charlie Daniel’s & his band.
I was in junior high when this came out. I’ve loved it since day one.
It's like in the opening lines of Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder say: "Music is a world unto itself/ it's a language we all understand."
I love this song and I actually met Charlie Daniels in person very nice man may he rest in peace.
I bet that was awesome to meet him in person
My uncle Charlie was the best ever. love and miss him everyday.
For real how cool is that
The main difference between the two is the style of music they're used to play.
The fiddle is also an important instrument in Irish traditional music.
This channel keeps popping up on my 4yp and I gotta say, I really like these guys. They're so respectful and humble.
Check out live from Montreal 1981 Somebody to love from queen ... Amazing performance
Forever one of my all time favorites🔥🔥. Pure joy! So happy I found you on YT, ty!
I saw charlie daniels live in 96. After him and metallica never needed another concert
I’ve seen Itzak Perlman live. Most amazing violinist ever!!!!
Amen
Sounds like a man after my own heart
WTF! Kaliko has a show? Where TF have I been? I've met Krizz, Tech, Kutty, Rittz, Big Scoob, etc.
I love STRANGE!!!

Da GENIOUS!
KALI BABY!
This song is a classic!
James Brown’s “Give It Up Or Turn It Loose” was still an anthem in the clubs I went to in the 80’s; saw AFRiKA BAMBAATA promoting “Planet Rock” at my roller rink; best times of my life ❤️❤️❤️
You know all the classics.
First time I've seen your channel. I grew up in Southern Mo. I love everything Charlie ❤ I grew up with this music. I absolutely LOVE that you guys appreciated the song ❤ made my day. Thank you so much, I'll be watching more videos. This song was how I grew up. Running trout lines. Great memories
God Bless
8:00 Another difference between a violin and a fiddle is that a violin is kept in a case and a fiddle is kept in a bag.
Slight differences but cool. Thanks for the info.
I thought the difference was the bridge is sanded down so you can hit the multiple strings easier.
@@AWStuck (I am merely an educated lay person. If you have musical training you are most likely far better informed than I am. I played a coronet in 7th or 8th grade, one of my daughters played a trombone for five or six years, and the other played a saxophone for three years. That's my musical background.)
You are _partly_ correct. From what I read preparing this reply, it would seem that at one time there was a "fiddle" as well as as the ancestor to the violin, but the ancient fiddle died out and it became a style of play. SOME violins have slight design difference to be used as a fiddle but in the large majority of cases the instruments are identical.
From a site I found:
What Is the Difference Between a Fiddle and a Violin?
In the vast majority of cases, fiddles and violins are the exact same instruments played in different styles. However, some instruments are expressly designed for fiddling as opposed to classical playing. Such instruments often have a flatter bridge, which brings the strings slightly closer to the fingerboard. This makes certain fiddle techniques, like rapid string crossings and chording, more manageable.
Overall, however, the main distinction between violin and fiddle is the style of music performed by the player. And because many violinists affectionately refer to their instrument as their fiddle, the meaning of the word will simply be specific to the person speaking it.
I loved your reactions and comments to The Charlie Daniels Band singing (The Devil Went Down to Georgia)!❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Another classic country song is “The Gambler “ by Kenny Rogers
This song is Iconic. Im glad yall found it.
This your second reaction of yours I've listened to and loving your perspective 😮
Lindsey Stirling is a fire violinist
When I was in high school the orchestra played at our talent show. Three acts later a group did a little bluegrass and the second chair violin went up on stage with the same violin and shredded that fiddle.
A violin player that is simply amazing in everything she performs within is named Lindsey Sterling and you should listen to anything she has produced. Worth every second.
I absolutely LOVE Lindsey Sterling. Her playing is so haunting and beautiful.
I’m gonna have to check that out
Troubled Notes, check em out!
She has some amazing videos that show her talent as more than a violinist. I’d suggest “Master of Tides” or “Roundtable Riot”
Was checking comments to see if anyone mentioned her! So happy you did
This is always been one of my favorites. You can't hear it and not just feel it. But watching your reaction, it was like hearing the song for the first time.
Fiddle is what normal folk play, violin is what rich folk play.
glad to see you reacting to this. Definitely an unbeaten classic. It's an unbeatable to be hung on a wall. Just like A Boy Named Sue. Keep them rolling, I watching your reaction✨✝️🙏🏼✝️✨
I have long considered Charlie Daniels to be the first white rapper. This song is gangster asf.❤❤❤
I love that you guys fuck with this!
Great reaction guys, thank you! It thrills my soul watching y'all head bobbing to the beat and digging the music i grew up on!
You should definitely pay attention. And sometimes you benefit. Like opening yourself up to a whole genre of music. 1st time watching, great show!! ✌🏻❤️🙏🏻
I was trying to think of that difference between and fiddle and a violin. And you told it!!👍👍👍 Watching you rock out on it was a real treat. Thanks Guys!!
You guys are freaking adorable. I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction. Im not a fan of this type of music but this song really does hit different. Thanks for the content!
Did not think I'd see one of the dudes whose music I rolled to all through high school and through today, reacting to videos on UA-cam! Love your music Big Krizzz!! KALI BAABY!!
When we were young, every kid practically in our town knew every word of this song, and would be singing it, thinking they were badasses too. Fun stuff. And true talent. You two guys, you couldn't stop having fun listening either! It just grabs a hold and takes you for a ride you love being on. My two cents anyway. Another great vid! Keep em coming. Oh, and another I used to love, among many. The Steve Miller Band. I used to know every word to every song. Stories set to music. And it's a silly one, but Dance, Dance, Dance is timeless and ageless and fun, makes you smile.
I knew you'd love this song! I was raised on old country, and Charlie Daniel's was always a favorite, but this song? My absolute favorite!
It's great watching you two love this music that I've been loving my whole 55 years of life!
Love it!! An absolute legend loving legendary song. Krizz definitely knows music.
Chops like an AK and sings like an angel!.
He used to come to the Knox County Fair.....he was a helluva musician......it was so entertaining seeing that old man perform......
First time I've ever seen that footage and it was great watching it for the first time with Y'all!!!
I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert. Tightest band I think I have ever seen.
