Yes Krizz, we had color TV in 1965 😂... It was in the movie Ghost with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

Seems though... less than 10% of US TVs were color yet in 65. NBC started most prime-time to color shows for the 65/66 season. So this 1965 Andy Williams TV Show was recorded and broadcast in color. All 3 networks then.... went to most also color for the 66/67 season. I know as a boy we did not have a color TV until a wealthier relative gave us their first one and that one had tubes and not what was called solid state yet.
I remember color between shows to commercials would have radically different color.... you adjusted to decent fleshtones for one show... a commercial came on and had green faces and next pink faces... same for changing stations. That old RCA color had my father complain and want good ole B&W back.... and it kept the TV repair man busy coming to the home to change weakened tubes LOL.

Kris, you know this from the movie GHOST......the pottery scene and the final scene. This song was originally in an old 1955 little known prison movie called Unchained. Bobby Hatfield is the 4th person to cover this song and he did it his way and it became a hit in 1965. This song got a second life from the Ghost movie and hit the charts for a second time. Unchanged Melody is the most covered song ever with well over 650 covers. Bobby's original recording is what you hear in Ghost.
Bobby is a counter tenor with a 4 octave range. He can hit those high notes....no falsetto.....those bare pure notes.
Bobby passed away in 2002. His partner, Bill Medley is still performing. In fact Bill also has a song from A famous movie. He sings, I Had The Time If My Life in the final huge dance scene from the movie, Dirty Dancing.
Check out The righteous brothers together singing: "You've Let That Loving Feeling". " Soul and Inspiration"
"Rock and Roll Heaven" ( videos on all)
Bobby was 24 here, was very nervous, had a cold and his mom was in the audience seeing him perform live on tv for the first time. The Andy Williams show was a very popular TV show with a huge viewer audience.
Check out Andy Williams, he has an amazing voice: "Love Is A Many Splendor Thing". " Moon River". Andy sang mostly movie ballads. Maybe best know for "Its The Most Wonderful Time If The Year". A Christmas song that's a staple throughout the holiday season and has also been used in commercials.
The Righteous Brothers started out in 2 different groups but came together to create a unique sound. They were together for a few yesrs, then split for solo careers. After a few years they got back together and toured all around until Bobby's death in 2002. He died in his hotel room just hours before they were to perform.
Check out Bobby's rendition of " Summertime" ( video). And Bill singing "I Just Wasn't To Make Love to You"

Loads of singers have sung this song but none do it better than Bobby Hatfield. The studio version was used in the movie 'Ghost' but this live version is stupendous. He had a cold, his mother was watching him sing live for the first time and he suffered with stage fright. Watch when he gets to the high notes at the end. He does not contort his face like other singers do when hitting a high note. He bites his lip and smiles as if to say I nailed it.

Bobby sang effortlessly and it speaks to his skill and control. I think Krizz is mistaken here I don't think Bobby sang this in falsetto, but it seems it. My memory also says Bobby _gained an octave_ when he got older. A rare talent for sure, RIP Bobby.

My daddy tried to bring Mama out of her coma with this song... she'd fallen into a coma after surgery for aneurysms... this was THEIR SONG when it first came out. He'd sit there beside her on her hospital bed, holding her hand while he played this cassette over & over... so every time I hear it that’s what I see: Daddy praying at Mama's bedside & holding her hands while this played... Daddy finally joined her in Heaven, but it took 20 more years. Through those last 20 years, I'd catch him still playing it, time to time, when he thought no one was around..

Bill was joking about not thinking it was going to be a hit. They often flipped coins or just had songs that fit their individual ranges best (like Bill singing "I Just Wanna Make Love to You") so went that way. They both did solos often along with the duets. In fact, Bill played the piano while Bobby sang on the original recording of "Unchained Melody".

This was planned to be a B-side or a filler for an album so Phil Spector, the producer, left early thinking it a waste of time. So Bill not only played piano on it but effectively filled in as the producer. I've heard rumors that Phil Spector tried to cover that up.

This song was written by Alex North (music) and Zy Haret ( lyrics) for the 1955 movie "Unchained." Thus the name. The movie was the story of a man in prison contempletating escape. The song went relatively unnoticed until recorded by the Righteous Brothers in 1965. This clip is from the Andy Williams Show. Andy was one of the famous crooners from the 50s to 70s era. He recorded 43 albums, 15 of which went gold and 3 which went platinum. Andy is best known for his recording of Moon River.

"Unchained Melody" was, originally, written as a theme for a 1955 movie set in a prison, titled Unchained. The prisoner is dreaming of his release, being "unchained" so he could return to his woman. Krizz, you probably have heard the Righteous Brothers song, You've Lost that Loving Feeling., in association with their name.

***New Album coming 2025!*** omg Boomers don't quit! - Per Google: Bill Medley
Medley is still touring with Bucky Heard, who replaced Bobby Hatfield after Hatfield's death in 2003. Medley has won a Grammy, Oscar, Golden Globe, and American Music Award, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He's also set to release a new album in early 2025 called Straight from the Heart.
    Bucky Heard
Heard is an Alabama native who has shared the stage with Andy Williams and Glen Campbell. He was named "Male Vocalist of the Year" by entertainment publications.

They had many hit love songs but their "Tear the Roof Off" R&B was what the fans looked forward to every week on the TV show called "Shindig". They actually had just finished singing together, and then host Andy Williams came over to do the interview, which turn out really fun, giving you a sense of their personalities. Andy Williams was a famous singer who had his own TV show for 9 years. He had sung Battle Hymn of the Republic at Senator Robert F. Kennedy's funeral in 1968 [Kennedy was assassinated a month after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr]. Little known fact: In 1964 before the Righteous Brothers became nationally famous, they were asked to be one of the warmup acts for the Beatles USA tour in August and September. they left the tour after a few weeks, they had anew recording contract, couldn't stand all the screaming in the audiences, they couldn't hear themselves. . After that they were off and running with a string of big hits TV and movie appearances. Their kind of music was labeled "Blue Eyed Soul." People of any background loved these guys, the girls used to scream for them almost as much as the Beatles.

Actually, they really didn’t think it was going to be a hit. When it was released, this was the ‘B’ side, but some radio disk jockeys started playing it anyway, and it caught on and became a hit. The reason why it was a ‘B’ Is because the song was already 10 years old, and had had two earlier versions that were ‘hits’.

Righteous Brothers had several GREAT songs, all over the radio, all the time, and were BIG in Las Vegas, back in the day. This song (sung by Bobby) is now considered the #1 live performance of all time, and is currently #1 most listened to online song, in the world. Bobby was 25 when he did this live, on TV and had a cold. His mother was in the audience, and he was so thrilled that he made it thru, with that cold to deal with! The original song was written about a man stuck in jail..but during the Vietnam era, this was a very, very popular wedding song, as couples were torn apart by the war, waiting to reunite. Check out other Righteous Brothers, singing together, and prepare to be blown away. Bobby has passed away now, but Bill is still around and singing with a new partner. (Many people who heard Righteous Brothers on the radio, were 'surprised to find out they are white folk, not black!) Often referred to even today, as the Soul Brothers.

His mother was in the audience and he was singing this song for her. BTW, if you listen very closely, some of the words sound like he didn't breath through his nose at all, because he didn't. He had a cold while he was singing this song.

the origional movie, from the 1950's, was called 'unchained' (thus the name 'unchained melody'), and bits of it have been heard in various other ones. the one you're thinking of, however, is probably 'ghost'.
the performance you're seeing here's when they appeared as guests on the andy williams t.v. show.
also, bobby hatfield had about the widest octave range of any singer ever. finally, this and another righteous broothers song (with the other 'brother' taking the lead on that one) are 2 of the most played songs ever.

Everybody dressed well back then! You would NEVER see someone go to a store or town without being dressed up and their hair fixed! No "messy mom buns" back then!!!!! This was LIVE television! If you want to hear a more current version of that voice flip, watch LeeAnne Rhymes sing Blue!!!!!

First of all, I was born in 1965 and that was 59 years ago (I wish it was 56 years, cuz I'm holding on to every year!) Second, you definitely need to check out more of both of these guys together. Bill was the beautiful baritone counterpart. I know you know You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling.

Bobby is a counter tenor and his high notes come out naturally not forced out like a falsetto. If you want to see more power from Bobby’s voice listen to “Summertime”. That will blow you away

You've probably heard the song in the movie ghost. It was out for a long time before it was used in the movie.
The reason for the interview before they sang is because this is a clip from The Andy Williams Show.

The movie was GHOST and starred Whoopi Goldberg, Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. Bobby Hatfield died in 2003 and Bill Medley is still alive. You should try and listen to the Righteous Brothers singing "You've lost that lovin' feeling and "You'll Never Walk Alone." but all their songs are awesome. They both sang together and did solo as well. Jeanette, New Zealand.
