It’s not about the 0-60 times. It’s about the fun. You can buy really fast cars especially EVs but few would argue they are more fun. Also when all the manuals are gone in 5, 10 years cars like the Si will be collector cars.

We are spoiled up here in Canada. Took one of these on a test drive a few days ago. Going to get one next year when my current lease on a CRV is up. Canadian model gets a bunch of goodies (at least according to Honda Canada website) that you guys don't. Actual spare tire, dual zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors and wireless charging. MSRP in Canada is $37,800. I have not driven a manual for 3.5 years and when I got in this it was like no time had passed. So easy to drive and so fun!

Glad they added heated seats and updated the gauge cluster; this gets closer to the spec that Canada had/has. I wish they would add a "touring' trim that added some additional niceties, like charging pad, heated wheel, maybe leather and soft touch door cards. I would love an Si but would like something in between this and the Integra.

10:18 I don't mind it there, as long as there is a ring, or a button, or something to lock out Reverse. I hate the shifters where Reverse is just 1st gear pushed a bit harder to the left.

Great review and comparison, Alex! The 20-year old in me would choose the SI with no hesitation. The more mature me would prefer the Hybrid for its efficiency, comfort, etc. One issue with SI is its availability- they don't make many, and dealer markups that inevitably follow. Still, it's a great car for an enthusiast driver.

In 2019 it came down to the 35th Anniversary GLI and Si for me. In went with the GLI because the Si had ridiculous rev hang, odd clutch take-up, and a crunchy 2-3 shift. The rest of the car was fine. The styling was a bit much but not a deal breaker.
Four trouble free years with the GLI, and I would still lean in that direction, I think.

Alex, love the Si, but the GLI is really the only competitor. Got it, there's just no beating a honda shifter. They're experts at making shifters some of the best in the world, but you mentioned these cars are becoming more mature. The GLI costs a bit more but has power/memory seats, heated/cooled seats, dual zone climate, larger moonroof, Mk7 Golf R brakes, adaptive dampers, etc. It would be interesting to do an episode of the 2025 Si and GLI side by side. Some minor track work and real world living. Enjoyed the episode, thanks.

I think the new Civic hybrid hatchback makes the Integra feel like a terrible value for the money. i test drove a 2025 Integra and a 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid and I just think you get so much more value on the Civic. 50 mpgs, built in Google, and driving it feels a little more peppy and overall more refined. I really hope the 2026 Integra gets a hyrbid option.

When it comes to reverse gear location in the pattern, towards the driver and up is by far the most common placement. I am including commercial weight vehicles in this claim because that’s where a lot of manual transmission still exists. I personally don’t care as long as it is well gated. I could imagine that a person might grow a preference to either what they are most familiar with or perhaps had some bad experiences with poorly gated patterns that made it overly easy to get a gear you weren’t trying to select.

I think for $28k out the door this would be a great car, however at its $31k price tag it think it is just good. The GLI with a manual is a good alternative with more power or the Elantra N which is better in every way but does cost a couple grand more. What I find sad is how few affordable manual sedans are now on sale.

Today, I went on a test drive at the dealer.
    I was deeply disappointed.
When I got into the cabin, I immediately noticed a strong smell of cheap plastic. The engine sound was awful, the steering felt lifeless, and there was little space in the back for passengers. When I sat behind myself, my head was touching the ceiling. This car is so beautifully advertised, but once you go for a test drive, you'll be disappointed.

My opinion is biased because I just bought a carbon copy of this car.
There is more to a car than its 0-60 time and interior refinement. I traded in a 2024 Civic Sport Touring Hatchback manual for my new 2025 Si. I had my reasons, but the biggest was it wasn’t fun to drive. The Si is. It handles much better, has a little more power, and the LSD up front makes a difference.
Yes, you could transfer some of the Si’s components onto a new Civic Hybrid, but you still wouldn’t have Honda’s excellent 6-speed manual shifter and gearbox. Both cars are somewhat purpose built, with the Si being the enthusiast’s choice.
As I said in another post somewhere on UA-cam, the Hybrid is a car you buy with your head, and the Si with your heart.

Reverse should always be next to first IMO. Not only does it prevent you from accidentally hitting reverse while driving, but it makes maneuvering in parking lots just easier with them right next to each other. An interesting note is cable operated shifters pretty much always have reverse to the lower right. While RWD transmissions tend to have it by first.

@Honda really needs to crank up the horsepower and torque on this car.
It's been far too long that the MK8 Golf GTI with the last manual transmission for its 2024MY at 243hp, the Jetta GLI with its secondary refresh now still at 228hp and the out going Forte GT with 201hp and 195lb-ft of tq with its manual transmission have been tearing Honda up.
Yes, the Civic Si was never about horsepower wars like the S550/S650 gen Mustangs, Alpha platform 5th/6th gen Camaros and the LX platform Challenger and Charger brothers, but in all honesty, the Civic Si really needs to be pushing 230-240hp like the AP1 and AP2 S2000s used to be and give it at least 215-225lb-ft of tq to be the true second most powerful Civic in the lineup over the Civic Hybrid and over its competition now that the MK8.5 Golf GTI is only DCT for the 2025MY (and the 2026MY) as this will be the final gen Golf cars ever built including the MK8.5 Golf R too, the secondary refresh Jetta GLI, and the new Kia K4.
Staying stagnant at 200hp and 192lb-ft of tq is not a good look for Honda themselves and the Civic Si community. I get it. You can modify it if you want more power, but why ruin the warranty when it should come heavily performed out of the assembly plant line with the warranty?

Not sure how the Forte GT with 201 HP, 1.6T manual transmission, IRS, sans an LCD, better audio in my opinion, rear vents, and about $4k cheaper was not mentioned as a direct competitor (plus the Honda's near me jack up the prices). I test drove both back to back it's comparable. Not even sure in this day and age the Honda would last longer and the Forte has a 10 year warranty. If you are in the market it's worth checking out.

    What a fancy toy car!
As opposed to a real car -- Civic Hybrid.
I'm a happy 22 Civic (non-turbo) owner, will surely buy Civic Hybrid as soon as the last wheel falls off my current Civic.
Presumably in 15 years or so.

Though everything has crept up in price recently, I think the Si pricing increase has been relatively tame compared to many. I recall the 2014 started at $22,500, so this being still under 30 is pretty decent. Heck even a 2005 Si was like $19-20k..
