Rage came on the scene in the early 90’s. Their fusion of hip hop and rock inspired many other bands. Zack De La Rocha is the front man, and his lyrics are legit FIRE, often times speaking on injustice and inequality. His delivery is so visceral, it’s hard not to get angry WITH him. Tom Morello is the guitarist and has one of the most unique tones in the music business, making sounds that are similar to vinyl scratching, and some that sound like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Also, big love for the bassist and drummer, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk for bringing some funkiness to the mix.
I would check out “Wake Up” or “Sleep Now in the Fire” next. But you couldn’t go wrong with their entire first album tbh.
super insightful thank you
@@PzoThePlug Thank you for the reaction 🙏✌️
@@PzoThePlug why to hell should we waste our time to teach you something you dont like or understand...? google by yourself or let it... but you are the reaction channel and we are not your teaching channel... and you think really, that your are the best reaction channel...? better joke i didnt listen often in my life...
@@PzoThePlug I am gonna add a little more about De La Rocha. Zack was into activism during his high school years inspired by his experience of racial injustices that he experienced growing up as a mixed black/chicano in a predominenty white neighbourhood. His father was a famous mexican muralist in the Los Angeles art scene and part of some legendary art group. His Grandfather fought in the Mexican revolution and a farmer who toiled for slave wages. This gave Zack a deeper connection to the struggles of the Zapatista to which some of his lyrics speak of particularly the song People of the Sun. Their music isnt just a banger, their lyrics are an important message about very political and social issues.
Check it, since fifteen hundred and sixteen, Mayans attacked and overseen
Now crawl amidst the ruins of this empty dream
With their borders and boots on top of us
Pullin' knobs on the floor of their toxic metropolis
But how you gonna get what you need to get?
The gut eaters, blood drenched get offensive like Tet
The fifth sun sets get back reclaim
The spirit of Cuauhtémoc, alive and untamed
Now face the funk now blastin' out your speaker
On the one, Maya, Mexica
That vulture came to try and steal your name but now you got a gun
And this is for the people of the sun
You know what’s funny about gate keepers like @seelenwinter6662? Instead of being excited about the fan base growing and newer generations vibing on music that’s 30 years old, they would rather dog you for it and shun you for not knowing enough about something you just discovered. I’d wager that the members of Rage would appreciate their message still being spread today, especially by younger folks who need to hear these words most. Keep doing what you’re doing Pzo.
Rage changed my political outlook on life. You’ll want to make sure you always have the lyrics up on the video or on your phone as you listen. Their music goes hard, but the lyrics are on another level. ✊🏼
Their lyrics pack a whallop.
Helpful hint - always have the lyrics available when reacting to Rage. The stuff they were talking about back then is, sadly, still super relevant today. Racism, cop beatings, government overreach, corruption, etc... these boys talk about it!
oh wow.. WILL DO
I came to comments to say this! 👆
💯 Always have lyrics instead trying to cues what they’re saying. You miss so much of the message without it.
I was in my 20’s in the 90’s (I was born in DC in 1971) & I really enjoy watching young people discover the soundtrack of my youth 🖤wait til you hear Tool & Soundgarden if you haven’t already
The singer is Zach Dela Rocha. Guitar player is Tom Morello he does record scratching sounds on the guitar rage against the machine stands for the band was against the establishment the government the police everything they were definitely controversial and outspoken with their beliefs
First thing i would say is if you care about the bars and message and want to pick up what Zack is putting down you should always do lyric videos for RATM. Official or live videos are cool to see them in action and check out the energy.
That's Zack. Check out his stuff with Killer Mike and El-P
When ppl ask if I like Hip Hop I say; "Yes, I am a metalhead, I love Rage against the Machine!" LOL
A Lot more to hip hop than Rage.
@@anthonyv6962 Sure. It is a joke! :D
-But I do know my oldschool rap. I was born in 82 and through the 90ies and 00s I was a skaterkid, so metal AND hiphop were what we listened to...
ANd I am Danish, so besides american rap history I have a whole lot of knowledge about rap from my country as well. Alot of danish hiphoppers actually influenced american rap back in those days. Some of our biggest rappers have even produced beats and shit for big american world stars:
A big danish rapper named Joker actually travelled to LA in his early teens in 1992 and ended up producing tracks for Ice Cube, Rachim and Easy E. His production company was called Madness 4 Real back then. in 1997 he returned to Denmark and made a name for himself as a dansih rapper.
Funny enough me and him share our nickname and because Denmark is a small country I actually have met him several times at parties! LOL
Anyways. I went off on a tangent it seems... lol
I grew up in the projects...this was the only rock album/cd I owned...then my brother introduced me to system of a down...
THEM KIDS SHOUT DOWN WALL ST WITH A LIVE SHOW ON THE STEPS OF WALL STREET
Sleep Now in the Fire - Still today an amazing music video. Controversial documentarian Michael Moore directed it, and actually gets arrested in front of the New York Stock Exchange IN THE VIDEO. the cops harassing the band while they played was very real.
Ahh...So you found the read deal.
My guy I'm white as pail. When I worked at a ballpark I'd play their whole album on loud speakers when the boss wasn't there. The young cats said they were aztect, miyan, but never heard this. I got fired for playing it. I don't care.
Worth.
“While armed warehouses fill as quick as the cells”
*deep shit*
❤ They're all important! Definitely need the lyrics...
Hell yeah! Check it out! Down rodeo
will do
@@PzoThePlug if you want to hear the front man Zach on a modern hip hop track check out the song Ju$t. Killer mike, El P, Pharrell Williams and Zach.
@@PzoThePlugdefinitely check out Down Rodeo, that first bar is 😮
bullet in the head - live pink pop '93
wake up - lyrics version
Testify - ONLY DO live at finsbury park london ( BUT do not do any other live from this show as there are better versions out there!) This is unique version because the live guitar solo to this song is all time epic!
Agreed. Also, Sleep Now In The Fire needs the official video. For all other songs of theirs, finding a lyrics version works best.
American Rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1991. They are in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Known for left-wing anti-authoritarian messages and raging style. Zack de la Rocha [lead vocals], Tom Morello [guitar], Tim Commerford [bass, backing vocals], Brad Wilk [drums]. 4 albums. Background on members: Zach [born in Long Beach, CA, his father was Mexican-Black-Jewish, his mother was Mexican-German-Irish]. Tom [born in New York City, NY, his father was Kenyan, his mother was Italian-Irish]. Tim [born in Irvine, CA, later played in Audioslave]. Brad [born in Portland, OR, raised in Chicago, IL, family later moved to southern CA]. Influenced by Heavy Metal, Rap, Funk and Punk.
"is it a band?" The three people behind him are part of the band, yes.
Man welcome to the party. Get the lyrics my dude. Try calm like a bomb, down rodeo, renegades of funk
thank you will do
Zack drops real knowledge!✊🏼
Guitarist, Tom Morello, is brilliant. Listen to some interviews of him. Dude graduated from Harvard with a degree in Social Studies. Rage is the perfect band for him!
The machine is the system the rage is the anger against the system. You are a very smart young guy your opinion is very valid. When I was a young man in the 60’s they would be called protest singers. I’m in my 70’s and I love these guys, well done.
I've long believed that having good taste in music means being able to appreciate more kinds of music.
There is great stuff out there in all genre's you just need to open your ears and your mind and learn how to appreciate it.
Keep learning and keep loving
Rage is metal/punk/hip hop/funk fusion, basically their own genre. Zach de la Rocha and Tom Morello (lead singer and lead guitarist, respectively) are non-caucasians, which is why they're so deeply invested in indigenous cultures. Zach is 75% Mexican-American, has Black African blood as well, and his father was a Mexican revolutionary. Check out Renegades of Funk, their cover of the 1983 Afrika Bambaataa track, for some light. Also check out People of the Sun, my favourite Rage track.
All they songs have deep meanings, usually raging against capitalism, police state and brutality, imperialism, racism, American military hegemony, the rich and powerful, the rigged system, etc, etc...
Everybody sayin the same thing, you need lyrics on a phone to catch the bars AND you need live performances to catch the vibes. The songs are great for listening, but you gotta HEAR em dawg.
DOWN RODEO (roe-day-oh, like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills)
WAKE UP
PEOPLE OF THE SUN
VIETNOW
there are so many dope jams from these boys, but that will get you started. I'm here for it.
Yep, I keep thinking every Rage reaction requires at least 3 versions - lyric video, official video, and live performance to get the full experience.
Its the baddest band from the 90s when we protested everything we are still fighting for today.
Rock infused with rap ❤
and i LOVE it
Vocalist Zack Dela Rocha guitarist Tom Morello
Someone FINALLY has to react to Rage's "Calm Like a Bomb." You won't be disappointed.
Thats Zach De La Rocha! By far the most legendary band of all time. All of there songs are political based but have crazy good meaning. They were definitely 20 years early in the music industry.
Just subscribed based on your your genuine review of RATM. It's amazing to me to see catz of a younger generations open up to things that proceeded them, sometimes by decades. Research BAD BRAINS my man!!! It's going to open you up to a whole 'nother world.
Wake up, Know your enemy, Renegads of funk...listen to these!
Song - Down Rodeo
Let’s do it🔥🔥🔥
No comment about Tom Morello’s guitar sounding like DJ scratching?
Love the way the bass guitar growls on this.
soon as he busted out the pen i subbed
YESSIRSKI
They will literally change ur life! Thats enuff said!!!!
Don’t be worrying about what to label them, people have been trying to give this band a reductive label for 30 years. Just enjoy the tunes and read those lyrics.
ZACH baby!
Glad your eyes have been opened.
So this song is the pinnacle of what Rage specializes in… they use irresistible, almost hypnotic, introductory instrumentals to suck you In because they have a very specific message that they want you to hear on a subconscious/conscious level. They use the a method of speeding up and slowing down the music and using repetition to drill in while you’re under their spell…. I’m aging myself but I remember when this album dropped in 93’… I was 10 years old and snuck their album, which I had a cassette of, and fell in love and have been a fan ever since… Their songs “Killing in the name”“ down rodeo “ and “testify” and bulls on parade are worth a listen!
While their music was given to us in the 90’s, their observations of political hypocrisy are timeless. What was true then is true now, no matter when you are present on the timeline
I’m aging myself..: but I remember when this came out… and instantly I was sucked in… you’re looking at the lil John of the early nineties … the genre is in a class of its own
Know your enemy
denzel curry covers this and it is complete fire
Great Band !!
Zach De La Rocha is in my top 5 lyricists... Possibly top 3... His solo shit is fire, collaboration with run the jewels is fire,... Love the song "digging for windows"... All of it has meaning... Need the lyrics... Take your time!
I wish there was a constitutional amendment that all UA-cam reactors had to have the lyrics before reacting to Rage.
This song is about how politicians tout supporting family values, while spending trillions on the military industrial complex while children go without food, clothing and medical care.
Political, all their songs are political. Mass incarceration, police brutality, government corruption, systemic racism……. Etc etc etc.
Oh man. Love to see people discovering rage. What a group they were
amazing group
Welcome to the RATM rabbit hole!
You need to do -
Wake Up
Bullet In The Head
Take The Power Back
Fistful Of Steel
Sleep Now In The Fire
Renegades Of Funk
Killing In The Name
Just to name a few.
Live is great, but for first listens the studio/album version is best. And always, ALWAYS have the lyrics up. You have to know exactly what Zack is saying. He is a brilliant poet.
Zach is the main man, rapper singer whatever, the other main thrust is Tom on the guitar who makes sounds you will never hear from a guitar ever again in your life. The rhythm section is Brad and Tim who are both top notch with the funk shit. That's my TLDR
The best thing a person can do for themselves is search out as many genres of music as they can. You never know what might appeal to you and broaden your horizons.
You NEVER know!!
I dont think it was confidence pushed that Zach on stage. I think it was belief in his words and anger at the machine that did it. Great reaction!
Hello, welcome to Rap-rock hip hop something. It's all good.
You introducing yourself to Zack de la Roca sent me 😂
Check out Testify, Down Rodeo, and their cover of Pistol Grip Pump next
Hello from Cody Wyoming 😊you're awesome keep it up
In my 4 years watching reactions, I have *never* heard someone call themselves “the best reactor.” That’s like me walking into a room and saying I’m the hottest person there. Entirely subjective. Haven’t even gotten into the reaction yet.
De la Rocha is the lead singer.
"With a pocket full of (Shotgun) sheeeelllllss!!!" :)
The Rage rabbit hole is fun
Welcome to my happy bedtime music since 2016.
Without a face is my wife's song she likes from them
Yes dow.....
I always say “I like what my earholes like”.
Subbed after 2 vids. Keep being honest.
La tierra de la libertad
⭐
Run the jewels
Basically cops on rampage against the public 😢😢😢😢
92, S Cal, Pioneers
Read the lyrics my brotha. Even more relevant than it was back in the day.
look it up bro
Check out Killing in the name of by rage and also check out System of a Down BYOB
You’ve got one of the best “Engagement Strats” I’ve seen…Respect brother, I’ve scene this band in three continents 7 times, first they shake your Ass & then they shake your mind. Cut back on reiterating your lack of knowledge in order to drive comments by about 10%
By the end you came off as a little disinterested & disingenuous, you overdrove the content grift by 20% by the end…it’s a shame.
Free market
Use lyric videos for the first few, RATM is an elite band, with real hard lyrics.
Anarkia!!!
nice reaction Ja Morant
lolllllll
Bulls On Parade is a term for a gang of police rushing down the street smashing up people in their way. You can see it in the video.
Maybe listen to Denzel Currys version next, live in triple j. Killer version
Theres more of an message in this song rather than bars. Its a political statement. And it's more of a rapcore nu metal band
do your homework cuzz, now you been plugged in
Loved your reaction…subscribed 😁. You should check out and react to Down Rodeo😊
You might get some hate for talking through that epic guitar solo....
Down Rodeo will be your jam......just seeing the shock on your face when Zakk spits the 1st line will be worth it. You'll have that stupid farm animal look on your face when it hits, and make you rewind to make sure you heard it right lmao. RATM were a breath of fresh air, and the shows were pure violence, whole stadium quaking when the whole crowd would be jumping.
Listen to the denzel curry version
Lyrica fs
Ranger?
I almost had a heart attck hearing your bullshit intro but it got my attention
Ah soy español
I don't think you really understood what was going on.
explain
@@PzoThePlug i think he means this isn't punk music- and shells meaning from bullets- zach has been on countless rap songs from krs to run the jewels- these guys were huuuuge- i think you missed the guitarist sounding like he was scratching and just the whole vibe and message might have gone over your head - try mic check or roll right or renegades of funk- zach the lead singer is a spitter
gotta read the lyrics brother. Then get your ass in the moshpit
Porque no?
Zach 1994, band and nothing has changed. Unfortunately
Find out bro because you a little late, you better catch up
catching up!!!!
Did your girlfriend do your hair

You want more of that?? Too late... Spotify and Taylor Swift killed it all!
what happened?!
@@PzoThePlug happened that youth today as sh... In their ears... And they just swallow what Spotify pushes to their phones... No musical culture... 'o more instruments... Only empty lyrics and autotune! Guys you missed the 90 s... You are Fkd!
