We just ask Alexa to turn on/off that light. Heartily recommend it to solve this kind of conundrum!
If this was a factory reset then why does the Amazon app still retain the name I associated to the device? I am having fairly consistent disconnects with my echo dot, all other WiFi devices are working perfectly. The amazon Echo full size devices are working perfectly as well. Have moved to diff areas of house and right next to the WiFi router, with no change.
I bought used one on ebay and did this "hard reset" and put it in my system ....but it still is taking commands from previous owner? It chimed an alarm last night and woke my wife up this am saying "time to take antibiotics" (no one taking antibiotics here) What the hell? The instructions say to "de register" device before giving to someone else and THEN do a hard reset ....is this thing junk now because it was not delivered registered?
My echo dot 2nd generation doesn't respond at all. It is constantly showing blue light (not blinking at all), not a single button responses nor the resetting process works. I tried restarting several times still the same issue. anyone have a solution or might be familiar with such a situation?
Didn’t work. Mine worked perfectly at my winter home, got back to my permanent residence, it won’t turn on at all. No light, no ring of color, nothing! Grrrr
It is very difficult to connect to wifi if you switch internet service providers, and calling customer service doens't help either they speak to you like you are stupid and slow

Try it like 10 times, when the lights are fully off then you hold the action button for 6 seconds.
My orange light won’t go on
None of this works on mine. Just a solid blue light ring. Tried action button and vol - with mute button for 20 sec

Mine was not resetting. I saw where someone replied that you may have to hold the buttons for up to 4 minutes, after 2 minutes nine reset.

Found a fix: Hold down the microphone and minus buttons on the Echo Dot until the orange light appears (no longer), then release.
